Hey Mr. Dev can you make a 1v1 mode pretty please?
rogue likes often are tipping into overdone territory at this point so its VERY refreshing to see one with the uncommon pairing with tennis executed well, on top of that i get to customize my own little FREAK
Great buy! Well worth the price! If you were a fan of Mega Man Battle Network like me, check this out! Snappy and charming roguelite with quick runs! I love the style, and build crafting. Still trying to get a winning run, but I'm getting closer! Everything has this cool papery wiggly style too which I love. The controls are super simple during gameplay, just up down left and right, but you really gotta pay attention to make sure you don't get hit with a big multi-ball stack. I'm still unlocking new builds, but I'm going to lean into critters, and try to get tattoos that retrigger my limb abilities.
Torso Tennis is a roguelike with a novel gameplay premise/battle system and a fleshed-out build-crafting system. A lot of roguelike deckbuilders end up feeling a bit derivative. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, since I usually do enjoy "x with a twist" but eventually mechanics start to appear in many places and the gameplay doesn't feel quite as fresh. E.g. this card deals 3 poison stacks, this card doubles poison stacks on an enemy. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of doubling poison stacks, but sometimes you crave a totally fresh theory-crafting experience and Torso Tennis delivers on that. Torso Tennis takes an oddball battle system foundation and pushes it to its absolute limit, featuring limbs (equippable cards) that modify almost every mechanic in the game. And since the combat is so non-traditional, these limbs end up feeling very fresh -- the interactions are very novel and unexplored, which results in a feeling of excitement as you discover interactions between cards. In terms of criticism I would say that the game could possibly benefit from some minor balance changes. However roguelikes are a very "swingy" genre, and by design not all builds are supposed to be created equal. Even so, it felt like certain builds significantly out-performed others in ways that didn't feel satisfying. Overall Torso Tennis is an addictive game with a tight gameplay loop and a lot of heart, definitely earns its $5 price tag.
I'll admit, I was slow to get into this game, but once I grasped the idea of the stats and builds, took about 3 runs, I started really enjoying it. Trying different set ups and can be really fun, but I will warn that this is a very tough rogue like. The final boss is one of the hardest and I still have yet to beat him, if I even make it there. I will say that there is still some balance work that needs to be done. some builds, like start of round abilities, don't feel like they're very viable and others, like dino builds, feel like they're the only thing that works, but that may just be me and how I play. I expect balance changes and maybe more builds to be added in time, but this is a very good and unique game already!
only real torso tennisers get the true ending
This "tennis" thing sure is boring. How about if we added jungle music and body modification, then let the players throw trash and small animals around the field? Maybe summon a time vortex or two? Ahh, much better.

fast paced brain breaking torso based tennis match
A nice small run-based game. Doesn't have a ridiculous amount of mechanics but it has enough to get you making builds and thinking about your decisions. Not personally a fan of these kinds of art styles but I got over it during gameplay and it's not super intrusive
