I have played QuiVR, Elven Assassin, the Lab (archery game), Deadly Hunter, and Twisted Arrow (I'm not including games that are not solely focused on Bow and arrow, such as Raw Data). Out of all those archery games in VR, I had the most fun playing this game. Not only are the graphics better in this game, but the gameplay is satisfying and challenging, without it being too frustrating. Each level brings a higher difficulty and a new challenge. I especially like how there's no teleporting around. It just makes more sense. If you're defending place, you usually pick the best spot to shoot arrows and stay there. Yeah, I wish you could move at least a little, but it's better than teleporting all around the map. I'm not going to write here about the physics or whether the bow and arrow is realistic, because I have never tried to hit moving targets with a bow and arrow. The most I have done is mess around and try to hit a standing target at ground level. I can tell you that the physics are predictable. My only complaint is that I wish there was a little bit more feedback on the controller to tell when the arrow was pulled as far as it can go. You mostly just get that from experience in playing the game. I do recommend turning hands off. Make sure you do the setup at the start of the game to get the right bow for you. I also wish you could use a melee weapon when enemies charge at you. Another thing is that I wish you could switch between a shield and a bow and arrow to add more challenge when projectiles are hurled your way (versus having to always shoot the projectiles). But even as is, I had a blast playing this game. I'm surprised this game hasn't gotten more positive reviews. It's a real hidden gem. Rating 8/10
If you think you're good at the Longbow archery game on The Lab, prepare to be humbled. Marksman VR is another take on the "castle defence" archery wave shooter game. There is a lot of skill required to get that perfect shot.
Pretty cool archery game! You have to protect your city by killing waves of medieval soldiers and warriors. There's a magic skill tree that you can use to strategize your fights. After each chapter you get bosses. Once your gate is down, and enemies run in you lose the level. The game doesn't have a tutorial, but starts you right away with a helper line to get you used to the bow / aiming mechanic. To me it worked pretty great after doing the first levels. There are already a lot of levels to play, which is nice for an indie early access game. There are some bugs here and there still, like sometimes the game starts without my "consent" and then I have to restart the game to make it start the right way. But as its an early access I'll assume all bugs will be fixed. I like that the game can get quite challenging and exhausting. Even in the "normal" game mode. It's definitely a pick up and play game that you can play if you don't have a lot of time, but do want to get a level done before leaving. I'd recommend to try out the demo to see if you like the game before buying. For this price I think its a cool archery experience.
I have recently purchased Vive and Really enjoyed the ‘Longbow’. There are many archery games out there, however many of them were looked old school graphics like early 2000s, and those games were not persuasive enough to put 1.5lb HMD on my head. I’ve read about reviews and discussions, mostly there were talking about aiming and arrow. I have tried a demo before purchase, for me it was okay to play. Might be these problems are resolved recently? So far, i’m enjoying this game without serious problem. Pros - Good graphics - Liked hitting effects. - Magic arrows, it feels me like a god of archery. - Different class of enemies, (Shooting horseman is quite challenging but exciting.) Cons - Playtime is kinda short. I know this is Early Access, speed up devs... - Play is kind of repetitive. - This game should have better explanation about skills, i didn’t know how to activate it until first 15 mins, plus dev should consider to adding some active skills. Overall this game is 7.5/10 so far, Definitely needs some updates.
I really like archery games so I was stoked to receive a key from a Reddit giveaway as I wasn't aware of this game. Sadly though, what little playtime you see is all I could bear before quitting from frustration. The premise of the game is exactly the same as Archery in The Lab. Enemy advances on the gate, which has a health bar, and you sit on the edge of a cliff trying to stop them. Graphics are great as far as the world is concerned but the arms do look wonky. The aiming is just too frustrating for me as arrow drop is insane so you aim way above your ranged target PLUS the enemies advance on the gate fast so you have to also lead the target unless they are close to the door. Those two combined lead to a lot of misses and you only get two chances on average to hit the target before they are at the gate. I tried speed firing but I find it leads to some clumsy fidgeting with the bow and arrow not registering that it's in place resulting in pulling back with my arm but the arrow isn't engaged. I did like that there was a skill tree but nothing tells you how to use those skills. I chose several from arrows that home in on the target, fire arrows, and shooting multiple arrows at a time. I did see them activate once or twice but I believe it activates either completely random or after combo kills. Either way, I saw the skills happen so few times I didn't see where they really did much to change the tide of battle. The best archery I have seen in VR, and by best I mean easiest to pick up and instantly do well with, is The Lab. Deadly Hunter comes close but also has aiming problems. This I put below those. There are other archery games on Steam but after two disappointments I don't want to keep searching only to be let down.
Can’t recommend in its current state, for Vive. I have done real archery, played and enjoyed several VR archery titles. For some reason the virtual arrow is frustratingly difficult to nock, and disconnects easily as though my fingers pulled right through the string or my hand pulled away. Elven Assassin is an example where once you nock, the string position is locked to your finger until you release. Similarly, the arrow angle looks and feels more natural when it sticks out from between your fingers like a cigarette rather than in line with fingers. The virtual hands and arms are not lined up at all with actual hands, fortunately can be hidden. Suggest omitting arms or wrists. Shooting between the menu letters fails. Pressing the controller menu button does not pause or bring up a menu. The level map cuts through my body around waist level, breaking immersion. Skill tree is a bit vague and not a progressively earned achievement. Verbal combo announcements quickly become annoying and don’t appear to be optional. Not sure why an archer would ever chose to stand alone in front of a gate rather than from atop a wall. A ground perspective could be logical from behind a line of soldiers who must be protected from attackers. When shooting from down near the gate, arrows keep hitting an invisible continuation of a protruding wooden beam to the left. Releasing an arrow after slow motion effect makes my released arrow fly off to the side and miss. I suspect one hand is returning to normal time before the other during dodging movement. I have a long draw length, and although I did the draw length calibration, at full draw arrows still fly much straighter than is realistic, although I have the same issue in every archery game I’ve played so far, whereas shorter players probably experience much more drop even at their full draw length. Perhaps full draw should equal 100% power, with a power adjustment setting for arrow physics. The graphics look good from what I have seen so far, and with improvements this could be a new favourite.
The game has a lot of potential. I really don't like the bow mechanics as the bow and hand don't quite meet right (although the update helped a lot and I hope to see more improvements). I hate the hand and arm that go with the controllers as they are out of kilt and do not fit actual hand positions. They also get in the way of aiming. I much prefer the "hide" mode as invisible is better than having things get in the way of aiming, especially if they don't quite fit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyVyvdQA_O0
Like this game. + Price seems reasonable + Demo is gut + Boss level is kind of fun + Bow mechanic is not bad + Avoiding enemy's makes me workout - Want to see more stages - Multi-player? someday? - Show me improvement on skill system, it's fine now but it could be best.
I have played this game since it released. By far, I think this is best graphics archery VR game as shown in the trailer. Devs are active, shooting feels nice and realistic. Looking forward upcoming updates.
