MANOS: The Hands of Fate ~ Director's Cut

I'm a huge MST3k fan and this game truly captures the spirit of how bad this movie is. Fun to play, Classic NES feel to it. Would recommend to fans of the side scrolling genre and Manos fans.

Hear me out for a second...The fact a game was developed based on an unbelievably atrocious and obscure movie from the 60's tells me that there's something worth checking out. MST3K made this movie a cult classic and after viewing it at least 300 times I'd have to say it ranks as one of my favorite movies ever. The background story to how this movie was made is far more interesting than the movie itself. The game is an absolute love letter to this almost forgotten gem of a movie and I can't recommend it enough.

This game overall is a fun 2D side-scrolling platformer/run n gun. The beginning 5 stages are the brightest part of the experience. Stage 6 is when you start to experience cheap deaths, hindered visibility, both vertical and horizontal auto-scroller levels and these things when combined together make for a more frustrating than necessary experience. I was able to clear it in less than 30 minutes which for an NES style game is fine for length. I overall enjoyed the platforming and shooting mechanics it's just a shame that the game contains some of these cheap gimmicks that quite frankly just aren't fun. The game controls great, has some really good pixel art and the music is pretty good. There is some replay-ability with a new mode and harder difficulties to unlock, game also has a set of upgrades/collectibles to acquire as you play. If you don't mind the cheaper aspects of game play I described and are a fan of NES style games this clearly draws inspiration from then I definitely would say give it a play.

Even if you're a fan of Manos, you've seen the MST3K episode, the RiffTrax version and maybe even the bluray release, don't bother with this NES-like junk. It's boring and unimaginative gameplay won't keep you interested. Check it out when it's discounted to $0. Just don't bother.

This game is pretty charming, if a bit rough-edged. If you're familiar with the AVGN games, then the game feel will be familiar- this walked so they could run. The cutscene art is fantastic, with very solid spritework as well- all the gags were very readable & charming. All this to say that this game was almost impossible to play on my PC & I lucked out that my Steam Deck could run it. Below is my original review. I would love to recommend this game, but it's unfortunately unplayable for me. It refuses to run at its normal framerate, instead it runs like slowly-freezing molasses :/ I really want to play this, as I'm a big fan of the AVGN Adventures games and also a big MSTie, but without a fix for this (and I have tried to find one that actually fixes it), I have to give it a thumbs down :( I will be more than happy to change this if there is a fix for this.

É divertidinho. E uma surpresa agradável o fato de fazer referência a diversos terrores trash da época de Manos. Eu adoro o filme e fiquei feliz em ver as todas essas referências que não peguei. Falta alguém no Brasil pra fazer um assim do Zé do Caixão.

Waste of time. Progress through the levels is too easy; leading you into a false sense of security... Boss's follow no pattern so you can't form much of a strategy. This results in re-loading over and over again until that one time the boss's random choice of movements allows you to get lucky. MANOS replicates NES titles that got low review scores and turned up very quickly being kicked around the floors of Toys R Us with a Five-Dollar price tag on them. It's an "Athena-Like." Benbo's Quest, I Wanna Be The Guy & Eryi's Action made fun of these titles; allowing for easy solutions for those who thought outside of the box. MANOS, instead, insists on holding seriously true to being 'that game' at the very bottom of 90's K.B. Toy store wire bins. Unless you're under age Sixteen or are rich, single and without children, you're not going to have time for this.

This is so lame. Even a decade ago, it would've felt like nothing but hack references but playing it in 2024 shows how shallow and thoughtless the entire game is. It's probably one of the worst games I have in my entire library. Yowza, how does this have any positive reviews at all?
