Manitas Kitchen This game is about a T-Rex named Trexito, aka Trexie, and they have a dream! To become a pizza baker! Their brother, Alpadino, is gonna help them achieve that dream! The art style of the game is super cute! Who doesn't melt when they see a T-Rex carry a pizza on its nose? I especially love the design of Freckles! Gotta love them and their personality! As cute as the game might look there's some element to the story what makes it a little less cute. I had my suspicion at first but the further the dialogue got my suspicion got confirmed! (Keeping this as cryptic as possible, you'll figure it out!) Since I've played this game before it got officially released, there are still some bugs here and there. - Like the timers with the special abilities are slightly off. - The dialogue from story progress replays when you get a night shift. - Some typos here and there. - The 4 cheese pizza isn't able to get torched by Marsh. But regardless these small, very easy to fix bugs, the game is great! However, after all the good stuff there's one thing I dislike about the game. Since this game is basically doing the same thing over and over again you'd think it'd get redundant really fast. That's not necessarily the case. It only starts to feel that way once you can't buy any new ingredients or upgrades anymore. At the beginning of the game you have something to work towards but once you've done all that you're only waiting for the story to continue. And this is the part where the game can get pretty boring. You're building up so much cash for absolutely nothing. I wish that after the last sabotage the story would progress 200% faster. It feels useless to let us wait for so long. All with all I'd give this game a 8/10 The story is pretty fun, Freckles is bea, and gameplay itself is really great to just chill with!
I have been enjoying playing and def scratches my cooking game itch. There's just a few things the longer I play I am disappointed in, The game does have a story and during the first half you are earning money and feel you are making progress in the game by unlocking ingredients and upgrades. After all upgrades and ingredients are purchased it feels repetitive and stale, earning money essentially for no reason. I had one sabotage and open my store day after day cooking pizza and there's nothing else going on. The last half of the game just seems lacking so much and have significantly less to do. Only difference is you are making a wider variety of pizzas but the pace doesn't change and there's nothing left to buy. I hope they add more to the game because it really is enjoyable but wish there was more to do throughout the entire story. *After finishing the game I was very disappointed. They introduce being sabotaged only for it to happen once or twice and never again. There's an achievement for repairing 25 sabo's which cannot be done unless you play the story 25 times (assuming each one will count towards the achievement). It is basically impossible to 100% complete the achievements because of this. No endless mode either and the ending was just so random, it was like the devs gave up halfway through and half assed the rest of the story/game.
Looks cute, but I hate how frustrating it is. The character you play as is slow af and game itself is so repetitive it made me almost fall asleep midgame. Sorry but no thanks.
Manita's Kitchen was featured on my YouTube channel https://youtu.be/q0y30P7fApc and now onto the short review
TL;DR Review
//intro// Hello, MF Kraven here- and welcome to a less than 10 mins review. A YouTube series where I take a look at niche titles, hidden gems & often overlooked games & tell you whether or not you should buy it, in less than 10 mins. So if that is the type of content that you like, consider subscribing, & liking this video. Today I take a look at Manitas Kitchen, a cozy narrative driven casual cooking game about a T-Rex, & his dream of becoming the world's best pizza maker. Can you help Trexito fufill their dream? Or are they in over their head? Let's find out. //Graphics, Sound & Artstyle// The artstyle is what drew me in, and while the sounds are alright- seeing Trexito in all the different poses was what kept me going. //Gameplay// It's a very simplistic game you enter minigames for almost all the things you do, you knead dough & repeatedly press a key or button, you sauce the pie by getting the sauce in the right spot, put toppings by cutting ingredients as they come into the knife's vision, place it in the oven & take it out when it's ready to serve to customers. That's esentially it. You'll start with two simple pies, but the more ingredients you buy, & the more merits you achieve, the more recipes. With more recipes, you'll need more help. This is where the friends mechanic comes in (and no unfortunately like I said, it's a single player NARRATIVE driven game). You'll first be introduced to an ankylosaurus named Freckles, who can slap dough out for you (up to 3 when fully upgraded). Eventually you'll also be introduced to Marsh the triceratops who will bake a pizza with their flamethrower & finally Collini the Pterodactyl who can sauce up to 3 slapped out pies for you. But not only will you use their powerups to help you out, Trexito has one of their own- the ability to skip the minigame of cutting ingredients nd will allow you to do the ingredients for the UPCOMING pizza. Pizzas need to have precisely the right amount of ingredients, or risk being penalized by having your pizza rejected or only landing a "good" instead of perfect" //Price// 12.99 USD //How many hours estimated// I finished the game in 9 hours. //Is it Playable on Steamdeck?// Yes, it became my preferred way of playing it! //Final Thoughts// So when the story was being played out, I was invested- but then days would go by and nothing would come of the story, it'll be just another day, more hustling & grinding. Eventually I bought everything in the store and all upgrades for my workers, so I just kept accumulating money I couldn't spend. What I'm trying to say is, the game hits a plateau- a few great details get thrown in and baam, back to wondering when the story will progress. Which brings me to my next point, the story starts a bit boring but then when the flashback hits, I got invested... well by hour 7 I was just wishing the game would end & when it finally did, I was dissapointed. Manitas Kitchen has an incredibly ambitious look to it, the same formula of an Overcooked but it's stunted by it's single player mechanic. And while I know it doesn't make sense to have anyone but Trexito cooking, the cozy/lax ambiance of the game would be perfect to play with kids or a significant other who doesn't want to feel like theyre playing a Souls Born game. Now onto the bugs, I ran into a plethora of bugs, sometimes the same text would appear 3 days in a row, other times Trexito would just keep walking towards the pizza delivery station & even once I was completely out of bounds. While not exactly game breaking as, if you can't fulfill a day, you just close up shop due to stress earlier. The stress mechanic is kinda useful too, se e as a T-Rex, walking around stress free, feels clunky, which I like so I'm not docking points for that. But the more stressed they are, the faster they move, the faster they move the more pizzas you can make. Made me want to walk away from my PC to let him get a bit stressed to walk faster & would still whip out 11-13 pizzas (which is what you'll average per day if you're on top of it). The night time levels have the illusion of being harder, because lights will go out making the pizza process harder, but you'll have no help either. Well, I would just slap out 5 pizzas, and make the one on screen, if another one pops up, sauce it while the pizza is baking and repeat the process, with the time it take to sauce & bake you'll only realistically be able to make 6 MAYBE 7 maximum so 5 is the sweet spot especially in late game when you have pizzas with 6 ingredients. Even though I spent the last few mins berating the game, notice how much attention to detail i put into it. Why? Because at the beginning I was having a genuinely good time. I got the science of pizza making down, & the journey to get to that was great. But after the 7th hour, I just wanted to finish the game. The story doesn't need to be stretched out so long to seem like the game is longer than it actually is, I would've preferred if we could at least get some sort of indication that of how long it would take before the next cut-scene. So to recap, it's full of bugs, it's a COZY game with no real consequences if you fail, learning the science behind it is fun, the characters are cute, the story is nice until it's not, I wish it was shorter & I really wish it had multiplayer or co-op. For that on a rating of BUY IT NOW, WAIT FOR SALE or DO NOT BUY! I give this A Wait for Sale, don't expect to be wow'd by Manitas Kitchen but it still feels like a nice introduction to casual cooking games. Personally this is one I'd probably let my kids play (even though there is a nefarious theme to the story), to train them to play Overcooked or Plate Up! Plus visually the game is pleasing. I just need some of those bugs ironed out, as the price isn't terrible for what this is, but in good conscious I just cant tell yall to just flat out buy it.
Wait For Sale!
The game starts in spanish for some reason. It also works fine on controller but the keyboard controls are wonky, mouse doesn't work and I can't even press Q to do the minigames that I need to making it unplayable as I can't change the key bindings. Hopefully they will fix their issues and I can retry at a later time.
Before the review, a word of caution and a plea to the devs: Do not forget to turn your computer's volume down! The in game audio controls ONLY apply to the menu. Devs: please for the love of all higher powers: *apply volume to in game, the music is way too loud, even at 30% without headphones on* and my laptop alhas absolutely horrid speakers that are usually too quiet! I can't imagine how it sounds on a system with actual speakers! The volume and a few Gameplay Preferences aside, Manitas Kitchen is super cute and relaxing to play. My only real gripe is Trexie's walking speed/pizza baking and delivery animations (a high paced game with a lumbering character) and Marsh is... kinda useless in later game? The ingredients are a bit... odd, as well, which kind of overlaps with my issues with Marsh; but, honestly, you don't get enough orders for it to be too much of a problem?? Overall, very chill and a good way to relax and kill time ♡

Dino designs are cute, but man the gameplay is just so- so frustrating and repetitive. Theres a few bugs here and there and the controls are a little jank as well. UI fixes that would be nice: - Action icons only appear for the action you are pointed at not just in the general area. use little white dots to denote that there is an action available to take - Pizza popups occasionally do not entirely move onto the screen, obfuscating the recipe. This usually happens when animations are paired with timers and not positions. - Throwing the first day in without any instructions made me think the game was broken from the get go- some more story or context clues would be nice Story wise: - Would be nice to have those lines be spoken during gameplay rather than just at the start and end of shifts. It would make the repetitive game play more fun as I can at least look forward to characters interactions - D-did you guys VOICE the dino gibberish?! you guys are mad! please consider using more of it in the game somehow. its cute! - The pacing is slow! Buying upgrades dont really fill any feelings of progression between each day because ingredients dont necessarily unlock pizzas, and character upgrades exponential costs mean you dont get to get an upgrade every day! And lastly: Trexito's stress levels affecting his movement speed is a neat mechanic that doesnt seem to be fully realised. I dont know if this was your intention but the fact that being stressed causes you to be a more efficient worker probably isnt something you want to potray, even if you say- risk burning out and becoming very slow. It kind of rewards intentionally stressing your character. I kinda feel bad doing that Overall cant recommend, its not really a short experience and it lacks the joy of something you'd want to just play every so often. Not even enough cute dino antics to warrant the buy, but the characters do seem interesting, I wanted to know more but not enough to stick through the game. Slightly disappointing overall.
As a Streaming T-rex the moment I saw this game, I knew I had to have it! A cute art style mixes with the front facing story of a simple T-rex that wants to cook pizza meshes with the back ground story of some shady dealings. The game is just challenging enough that you fear failure but so far I have to feel truly stressed by it. Two notes day one you are expected to fail, the tutorial will be delivered to you the next day, and also I do not know if this was a bug or as it was supposed to be but my game launched in Spanish the first time!
This game is awesome! Such a cozy, fun, and engaging game with colorful and gorgeous visuals! Not recommended for those who are looking for intense and fast experiences, but if you want to enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a blanket and some tea this game is the perfect partner!
