Accurately recreates the experience of being a young adult: the long hours, the low pay, the cripping debt, the tedium :P.
If you’re looking for a mindless droll and tedious game this is the game for you! Get ready to alternate between the f and e key over and over and over and over again… It seems like the developer doesn’t know how to check if a key was just pressed, that or can’t differentiate between key down and key up commands. Because even the tutorial is e then f then e then f and so on. The game really needs to use the same key for the same thing which it fails at. As it stands right now some of your owned buildings use f to collect money and other use f to kick out tenants so if you don’t pay attention your kicking out all your tenants and when you kick a tenant out it sets your collected rent to 0 even if you had a ton saved up. The random number generator does not work as expected. I don’t think the dev correctly set it up for example with a gun there is supposed to be a 40% chance to get a fine. I tried to rob people 14 times and got a fine EVERY time. Finally, I just sat by the civilian saved the game and kept reloading to see if I could ever rob the person without a fine. After a number of tries I did succeed so it’s possible but I think its messed up. I worked in the business office and after hours of grinding finally saved enough money to purchase the Business building (after already saving up a number of times for the degrees) . I had expected that I would move up from vp to president/ceo as I was making a ton of money as vp. Instead I was barred from working there anymore and had to go from making iirc $120 a job back down to $14 a job. And I used every penny I had to buy the building so I was broke and couldn’t buy a pharma degree. And had already been blacklisted from the shipping company because I hit the red icon once. At that point I already had all the equipment including the night club ticket. So I decided to check out the nightclub since I hadn’t really explored it since I was looking for an economic simulator and not a gambling one. And that’s how I found out about the exploit and ended up having a bit more fun… The game is broken, really all you need to do is get $600 and go to the night club. Enter the club for $100 f w d f (keys to enter the night club and select $500 slots). Now save the game while the slots are rolling. Press e, if you get a 3 save the game if you didn’t load your previous save. Then hit f, if you get a 3 save the game if you didn’t load your previous save. Hit c, if you didn’t get a 3 load your previous save, if you did hit r d f and do it all over again. Do this till your energy gets low, buy a bunch of coffee and buy some businesses. Don’t bother with education because once you buy a business you can’t work there anymore. Also you can’t buy things once you own the building so don’t buy the coffee shop. If you really want to do the mindless fe fe fe fe key combo you can buy a pharma degree, as you can’t buy that business. As mentioned above if you’re looking for a time sink that’s just a grind then this is the game for you. The price point is fine for it. But I can’t recommend it.
Warning: Asset Flip! MakeThatMoney is a Digital Homicide style asset flip, or what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The "developer" paid for/pirated a few Unity asset store packs, dumped them all in a blender, and submitted it to Valve as if they're real game developers.
Two notable criteria for what makes an asset flip instead of legitimate use of stock assets are whether those assets comprise the majority of the game, and whether the "developer" properly credited the people who created most of the assets in the game. This game fails both of those tests. The "developers" here didn't credit any of the artists and real, actual game developers who created the assets here, so this is plagiarism, as well as cash grab shovelware. In this case, the asset flipper took The developer used GameGuru and a bunch of stock GameGuru assets to make a kind of top down "adventure" game. It has no value or merit as a real game. There's two interesting bits about this, first, while GameGuru is primarily used to make really bad FPS arena shooter asset flips (it comes with a lot of heavily abused stock assets), they really did try to make some kind of real game with GameGuru. You walk around and can do trivial interactions with various things to increase your money counter. I'd almost go to say this is the most complex game experience ever created with GameGuru... and yet, somehow, it's still completely awful, as is everything made with GameGuru. GameGuru is really bad, and games made with it, like MakeThatMoney are also really bad. So that describes the game... of course there's no reason to ever want to buy or play this, it truly is awful. And buggy, too... GameGuru isn't a very stable or reliable construction kit. What was the other thing? Oh yeah, this is made by EcoGames but they took the bizarre move to strip their name as developer and publisher of this asset flip from Steam, so the game appears to have no developer or publisher. It's unclear why they would seek to distance themselves from this, while at the same time keeping it up for sale on Steam. I also don't know why Valve allows shady developers and asset flippers to hide their identity in this way... how is that good for gamers? Taking this shovelware seriously as if it was a genuine attempt to make a game, it doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the video game construction kit/toolset, GameGuru FPS Creator. This is a very poor quality toolset sometimes used by amateur/unskilled developers as it doesn't require advanced game development skills, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? MakeThatMoney is relatively cheap at $2 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend. Remember that if you buy a game from an unethical developer, you're putting your money at risk.
No idea how this game got in my inventory. Reminds me of an old flash game I used to play in secondary school, but this is somehow worse. After getting a student loan I was unable to access the school to get a degree. Really laggy and buggy. 0/10 don't buy.
