“Get rich or die tryin” Go To IT is a roguelike business simulator in which you can experiment with different strategies for managing a large company, as well as for a small startup, and even solo freelancing activities. For the goal achieving you should to pass through different epochas, be the historical events witness, and solve different management problems. After completing this challenges, your company will be the market leader. The game has no some kind of main antagonist or global threat. Like in all this kind simulators the threat to the player is the environment, and his main enemy is himself. I recommend Go To IT at least because it has high variability and gameplay isn’t tied to any particular subject area like gamedev or blockchain industry. Also about blockchain: for connoisseurs, the game has a built-in trading system, both cryptocurrency and fictional companies shares. Special attention for the character creation variability. Yes, I’m talking about “Other”. Thanks to this option. If it wasn’t, maybe I couldn’t find the game in my favorite communities. However, product isn’t without minuses. The game was released today and has early access status. It has minor bugs. For example, I have a problem with windows changing. If through the alt+tab move from the game screen to the browser or messenger, when you return, the game may hang for 5 seconds. Also, rarely encountered small artifacts with text overlay on itself. I don’t want to criticize for this because the game is still in early access. If the developers correct such minor issues, Go To IT will become a worthy competitor in its genre. As a result: the game is interesting, very variable, there is something to do in it, and perhaps it can be suitable not only for entertainment purposes, but also as part of training for novice managers. The product deserves attention.
Bugged, and it's already out of EA. And, yes, in half an hour you already find the bugs...
Honestly, I had a good amount of fun playing it. Until I ran into what is apparently a game breaking bug. I'll admit, I lost track of time and accidentally let an employee quit before I could give them a raise to convince them to stay so I quickly alt+f4'd when I got the message saying they quit. I reloaded the game and was greeted but a message saying "Something went wrong. And we're really sorry about that! Please contact Support." (See screenshot here https://imgur.com/Fpyqn76 )I google'd around and found that there wasn't actually any "support" to contact, at least that I could find. I tried reopening multiple times and reinstalled the game, I did find this (https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198859209221/recommended/953060/#developer_response) steam review that ran into a similar problem with a dev response saying that they're aware of the issue (all the way back on November 2018 ffs, and that they should have it patched in the next 1 or 2 patches, Which obviously didn't happen.) The dev said that in the mean time you can use the hotkey "Ctrl/cmd + Shift + O" to reset the game. This worked for me but they didn't bother to mention that THIS WIPES OUT THE ENTIRE PROGRESS OF ALL SAVE FILES! Which is probably a significant enough downside that they should have at least mentioned it in the post they made! If I reset my PS4 I don't lose every single thing I have downloaded on it so this was extremely misleading language to say that it "resets" the game. Honestly, considering they've known about this kind of issue for well over a year now, said they would fix it soon, and never did, then this reminds me of all the different programs/games I made in this game for a quick buck and then never cared about after launch. I had fun playing this game, as proved by the 16 hours I put into it. But due to the lack of technical support and the possibility that the game can somehow just completely brick itself I cannot recommend this game. Not only would I not recommend it, I would recommend people actively avoid it. Edit: I reinstalled it again to see if I could find a way to restore my old saves and found that in the "options" menu it tells you that you can press Ctrl + Shift + O for a hard reset (for beta testers). (This is word for word what the option says) It bothers me that the settings menu has accurate info about such a last resort but the devs recommend it willy nilly without the same level of warning as the settings menu. It's like they don't care if you lose your entire game progress.
After spending a few hours on this game I noticed a few likes and dislikes that I would like to share. This game first of all is a great Idea and I love these type of games, however you notice that it is an early access game and have to go into it thinking that. So here is then a list of things I liked and also things I would like to see implemented into the game: - I liked the idea of basicly starting your own company. It is similar to other company starting games but in a different light. - There is a character creation and customization and I liked that very much. - It feels like you´re sitting in front of your own computer and actually thinking about making your own project and then putting the right people in the right positions on the project, which I like. - I like the background and feel of the game and that you have to be strategic and take care of your employees need and also take care of your money otherwise you´ll go broke. However there are some bugs and features I would like to see fixed and implemented into the game. - I noticed some misspellings that needs to be fixed. For example on the start page. - I wish there was some background music, the game is very silent. :) - I would love for there to be a way of deleting emails. I noticed that after a while it actually started slowing down my computer because there was more and more things gathering on the screen. - I dont know if it was a bug or ment to happen but an employee of mine just left without a notice. Usually they leave after 14 days and they tell you but this guy just left. - I would love for the characters to have different traits that you can pick in the Customization screen, like, slow programmer or extremely positive person. And then those traits effects the team. - I also started wondering after a good while if the equipments did anything cause I kept buying them but nothing seemed to happen . - I would like the office to have more things to buy or have in it. There was very few things and it seemed like you could get them rather quickly if you wanted to. - A big thing on this list is, there needs to be a TUTORIAL. Something small that helps you a bit into the game. I understood the concept quickly but there are still some things that I dont know. Like equiment, what is it for or the stats on the project review. That leads me to another thing... - The project review stats needs to be explained. I tried to look on the wiki thing that was in the game but it did not explain the numbers and things that the stats contained. Im sure you can figure it out after playing for a while but there should be something. - And finally there should over all be a little more to do. The game is fun but after a while you kinda end up doing the same thing over and over without a reward. There could be some events poping up every 6 months or 1 year that makes the game a little more exciting and maybe a reward show that makes you wanna get certain projects done before the end of the year. Just a suggestion ^_^ Over all I do like this game and I hope there is still a lot more coming that the developers are working on. I do recommend checking this game out if you´re into this type of games, BUT if you´re unsure, wait til there is more content. :)
Note: Information in this review is subject to change once out of early access.
Overview
Go to IT is what Game Dev Tycoon would have been if the main screen was less interesting, software development was expanded to include more than just games and game engines, the ability to also develop web-based programs, the ability to choose how much work should go into a program, employees had personalities (good, neutral, and bad), and wasn't yet playtested by developers who can stand to learn some English. That's not to say that copycat games are bad, because both games are different enough to please Game Dev Tycoon fans. Like Game Dev Tycoon, the player manages a software development company and has the ability to develop in-house projects and accept contracts to do third party developent of programs. Unlike Game Dev Tycoon, new offices, facilities, and employee benefits can be purchased to facilitate more employees and make employees more productive.
Graphics and Sound
The graphics are lower end but is hardly an issue for a management simulation. Fortunately, the inferior graphics compensate in quality by being aesthetically pleasing. Male and female employees have an identical headshape (see Positives for more on gender), but the biggest complaint about the graphics, is that the sliders aren't obvious in allocation of design, coding, and management, and if the player doesn't notice this, they're going to be making money by dishing out shovelware. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1642573584 Sounds are mostly limited to clicks and dings, but the ambient music of The Flashbulb is a rare feat of music that's both pleasing and appropriate to the mood of the game. Sound in Go to IT is an all or nothing proposition, so if the player wants to play music that's more intense to their liking, all of the game's sounds need to be muted at the same time.
Positives
Identical headshapes notwithstanding, the ability to have transgendered developers is possible if the player wishes to mix masculine and feminine features for their avatar, or see all sorts of, ahem! Interesting-looking employees sending in their resume. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1642572411 Assuming the player starts in 1991, software development of more than just computer-based programs can be had as time progresses. (This author has only witnessed the advent of web-based programs so far.) Current events also show up in the game's news feed. (Some of it relevant to the IT industry, some of it irrelevent.) Programs can be named, so if the player wants to amuse their friends with screenshots of outrageous program names, that's also possible. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1644793176 The developer keeps a close eye on the community, has been highly responsive, and has even taken criticism with an open mind. This can be taken as an inference by all players that any faults in Go to IT in good time.
Negatives
The absolute biggest gripe about Go to IT, is that employees can ask for a raise under the threat of quitting when they're on vacation, so that employee is not only as good as gone, but they also get their last paycheck, and the player is unable to offer a raise due to the way the game locks the employee's screen. Did you spend $7,500 on items for that employee to get the most out of one skill? (Or even $22,500 so that the employee could get the max out of all three skills?) You lose those items, too! Despite what is said about projects needing an increased amount of Design, Coding, and/or Management being allocated to them, there's very little incentive beyond all three details being completed at the same time, and certainly the player will want to bump every slider up to the max in all three areas to get those extra dollars out of their project. How are players supposed to keep their staff happy without constantly throwing money at them? Allowing for Recreational Activities during a project will help a little, but obviously not enough. Way too many times will the employees you have come with traits that either bring down the rest of the team, or even bring themselves down. Have a newbie on the team? Expect to see them have a -20% to their happiness because a project is too complex. Have a veteran on the team? Expect to see them have a -20% to their happiness because the same project isn't complex enough. What was the developer thinking when a negative moodlet to happiness was applied because the employee hates learning? This author's mother worked in IT for over 30 years, and for the lion's share of her career, she was going back to school to learn new programming languages and new programs to utilize for her job. Simply put, if a person doesn't like the thought of trying to learn after they've earned their degree, they're not cut out for a job in IT. Either the developer is that certain of his(?) English abilities, or doesn't have any friends who speak English as a native language, because if Go to IT was made in East Asia, there's a chance you would have noticed this game on Engrish.com The co-worker(s) that a player who chooses Startup founder & Co receives do not have the partner trait, which makes for little incentive to choose at least the Second co-worker bonus. (Early tasks are easy enough for a single person IT firm to accomplish.)
Conclusion
Black Deck Crew wasn't lying when they said this game is in early access. While a management sim lover would enjoy this game (and especially if they enjoyed Game Dev Tycoon), the unresolved issues and problem of the game being too complex in some areas and too simple in others are liable to drive the player crazier than a laughing hyena on crack rock. Go to IT is a gem, but anyone familiar with gems will tell you that a gem must spend a long time being cooked, cut, and polished for it to resemble something other than a shard of broken glass. Loved the game at first and still do want to play it. I got very far into the game and then i got error message and now it does not load after re install I would like the money back
It's a good game with a lot of potential. The developers release lots updates / patches based on the community feedback.
Design looks fancy and juicy! It's all about IT tycoon and people managing which I like a lot. I really enjoyed playing, hope the team will deal with small issues in the next pathes!
