Makai Kingdom is the story of Overlord Zetta, who accidentally destroys his own Netherworld. In order to save himself, he seals his soul inside a book. Reduced to nothing more than a tome, Zetta is forced to enlist the help of his fellow Overlords to get his netherworld (and his body) back.

My absolute favorite Nippon Ichi game (would recommend if you can get a hold of this on PSP), but this is an absolute dogsh*t port. Zero effort was made to upscale the resolution to modern screens, massive slowdown issues, CTDs, spotty controller support... I could go on.
I WON'T LIE. PRAM HAD ME BRICKED UP FOR THE ENTIRE GAME.
Amazing game, extremely basic port. The other reviews already went in depth about the game itself. It's great. IMO, it's Disgaea but better because I don't like the Geo Panel BS. But the port is kinda bad. It's basic, lacking nearly anything that would make it any better than emulating the older versions of it. The only major change is some form of mouse support that I found kinda unresponsive at times. The graphics scaling isn't good, there are no QOL control changes or stuff to alleviate post-game grinding, nothing. At the very least, this port isn't as bad as Cladun X2's.
This is an incredibly halfassed port of a great game. If you're OK with that, go ahead and buy it. I loved the game when it was new and still enjoy it now, but it's definitely one of the oldest games in the greater Disgaeaverse, and it shows.
The effort for remastering this game is kinda disappointing compared to the effort made for porting Phantom Brave PC but acceptable though. I still prefer Phantom Brave over this game because it has more enjoyable system. Overall, it's an fun turn-based strategy jrpg and worth playing especially if you are Phantom Brave, Disgaea or NISA fan.
A spiritual successor to Phantom Brave, Makai Kingdom was a favourite of mine back when it released on the 2000s on PS2. It introduces the Vehicles and Facilities mechanics to the game, and each class has more defined Pros and Cons compared to Disgaea. I enjoyed the Petta mode, but like most NIS games, starting a New Game on the Alt Storyline can get challenging quickly. Has a fair bit of grind to it, but you dont need to be in the 1000s to beat all the extra bosses like the related titles. Was a happy surprise to see a PC release and get all the achievements. (P.S Obligatory 'Where's Disgaea 3 PC'?)
Yes, but on a sale! I bought Makai Kingdom back when it first came out for the ps2. It IS a great tactical rpg with a few layers concerning units. To keep it simple, you create characters from objects, the object determines that characters starting stats (not that important) and the % that they get from relevant gear concerning the stat. So 120% strength would give the character 12 damage points with a sword, or axe, instead of 10. Even if they were a mage. That character then weilds gear, and defeats other units in battle, while you observe the game's plot. You get more objects to create characters with but you can also reincarnate current characters, with mana, to other objects and gradually they become very strong lvl 1 characters. That covers characters, in battle we also have vehicles, that characters drive. They also have equipment with the driver's seat slot only available for a character (tech characters increase the vehicle's stats better, as a driver). Then you have buildings, they offer bonuses to anyone in them, that exits them in the battle. To layer it, character goes into vehicle, vehicle goes into building. This is all optional. You also have a unit limit of 8 so that's 4 character and 4 vehicles or variation of that. Classes heal character, some heal vehicles, others sell items like a shop (and you should buy from them, to level them up) and another class levels up your vehicles. Also another class will let you change your vehicles color palatte. I regularly see this game on sale for 5$, just get it then! Lots of videos about it online too. The plot is actually good!
Childhood game, one of my favorite JRPGs out there. Leaving nostalgia aside, there's still a lot of bugs on this version and they made the UI somehow look worse than the PS2 version. I loved it eitherway though.
basically disgaea
