Warning: AI Slop This game is partially or completely made with talentless, soulless AI generated content.
Magman is a bit of shovelware that DIG Games acquired, surprisingly this time DIG Games has not pushed another asset flip onto Steam, but this doesn't make Magman a real game. It's a basic Unity platformer template with a "Foddy" like magnetic swing mechanic, MS-Paint "art" and AI Slop for the rest of it... garbage that should never have been published anywhere, but DIG Games has this up on Steam because they want your money for trash. DIG Games have shown a repeat pattern of unethically dumping other people's work onto Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab, through this account or through closely linked/alt accounts. The visuals in this game are a complete joke, it's seriously just a bunch of MS-Paint sprites/images that look like they were lazily scrawled out over the space of a couple of hours. Like, with the mouse, it doesn't look like they even used a Wacom tablet or anything. It's so bad even pixel "art" would look better than this. Pure MSPaint. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget to arrange someone who can create graphical assets properly, or lack of talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low, enough on its own to deter gamers. As mentioned, this features really godawful, "wrong" looking AI slop instead of genuinely and sincerely created game assets. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating real game assets or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks bad because of that decision. AI slop sticks out like a sore thumb... and it comes across as insulting. There's also the old adage that those who lack the budget and talent to make their own game assets usually lack the budget and talent to do the rest of the job of game development properly, too, and that's glaringly obvious here. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. The very poor quality of this game puts it squarely on-par with ancient 1990's Flash/Java games, and given it's 2026 (and this was released not so far back in 2024), gamers and the industry expect and deserve better than this kind of low effort shovelware. Those technical issues put this game beneath what is expected from a contemporary, professionally developed PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 2 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 130 million gamers on Steam and well over 140,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. Let's talk about price and the value this represents for us gamers. Should you buy this game? Is it among the best the Steam catalogue has to offer? Magman has the ridiculous, laughable price of around $4 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the unethical nature of the developer. There's enough defects and quality problems with this game that it's not worth recommending to gamers, but the unethical nature of the developer/their associates makes it completely impossible. The use of AI slop is a direct insult to gamers and real, ethical content creators and artists everywhere.

Magman is a game that knows exactly what kind of audience it wants to attract. Instead of chasing flashy visuals or cinematic storytelling, it embraces the philosophy of difficult physics-based platformers where every inch of progress must be earned. Developed and published by DIG Games, this indie title strips away unnecessary features and focuses entirely on the challenge of climbing from the depths of a cave to its summit using a handmade electromagnet. The result is a straightforward but demanding experience that rewards patience, determination, and mastery of its unique movement system. The gameplay revolves around a single objective: reach the top without giving up. While the concept sounds deceptively simple, the execution is anything but easy. Players must learn to control momentum, judge distances accurately, and carefully position the electromagnet to overcome increasingly difficult obstacles. There are no combat encounters, character upgrades, or special abilities to soften the challenge. Every successful maneuver comes from improving personal skill rather than relying on in-game progression. This creates a satisfying sense of accomplishment, as every section conquered feels like a genuine victory earned through persistence. Magman fully embraces the unforgiving nature of the genre. One poorly timed movement can send the player falling far below their previous position, forcing them to repeat difficult sections they may have already completed. This constant risk creates a mixture of tension and excitement that defines the entire experience. While repeated failures can become frustrating, they also encourage players to refine their techniques and approach each obstacle more carefully. Those who appreciate games that emphasize perseverance over accessibility will likely find the climb both engaging and rewarding. The game's world is presented as one continuous environment instead of separate levels, allowing players to gradually memorize each obstacle and route. This design strengthens the feeling of progression because success comes from building familiarity with the environment rather than unlocking new stages. Every climb becomes a learning experience, and areas that once seemed impossible eventually become manageable with enough practice. The automatic save feature also ensures that overall progress is preserved between play sessions, making it easier to return without diminishing the challenge itself. Visually, Magman adopts a minimalist presentation that reflects its small-scale development. The environments are functional rather than elaborate, prioritizing readability over artistic spectacle. Although players expecting modern graphical effects may find the visuals underwhelming, the clean presentation keeps attention focused on movement and platforming precision. The developer openly acknowledges the modest production values, and the game benefits from this honesty by setting realistic expectations from the beginning. The audio design follows a similarly restrained approach. Rather than filling every moment with dramatic music or complex soundscapes, it provides subtle effects that support the gameplay without becoming distracting. This understated presentation helps maintain concentration during difficult climbing sequences, where focus is often more important than spectacle. The overall atmosphere complements the demanding gameplay instead of attempting to compensate for it. Magman offers its greatest value to players who enjoy overcoming steep challenges through repeated practice. Speedrunners and fans of difficult platformers will likely appreciate the opportunity to improve completion times and perfect their movement techniques. On the other hand, players who dislike losing progress or repeating difficult sections may find the experience exhausting. The game makes no effort to appeal to everyone, and that commitment to its core design philosophy ultimately becomes one of its defining strengths. Despite its limited scope, Magman succeeds by delivering exactly what it promises: a focused, skill-driven climbing adventure built around precision and perseverance. It avoids unnecessary complexity and instead refines a single gameplay concept into a satisfying test of patience and mechanical ability. While its minimalist visuals and uncompromising difficulty mean it will remain a niche title, fans of demanding physics-based platformers are likely to appreciate its straightforward design and rewarding sense of achievement.
