About
"Witches lurk among these girls."
It was supposed to be Ema's first day of high school. But instead of waking up in her bed, she found herself in a dark prison cell.
She found herself suddenly trapped in an island prison, isolated in some unknown, distant sea. In her confusion, an owl informed Ema of her new situation:
"You have been identified as a potential witch — a threat to the world."
"Thus, you will live here as a prisoner for the rest of your life.
The life Ema had taken for granted had suddenly collapsed.
As she began her new life as a prisoner, Ema got to know the other girls in her situation. Her fellow witch candidates.
However, one day, the owl gathered the prisoners for a shocking announcement:
"We will be holding a witch trial."
One by one, the girls would have to single out a witch among the thirteen of them...
In other words, they would have to vote out the next candidate to be executed.
It was the beginning of a cruel game indeed...

Truth is for me personally the art and the overall music was the first thing that came to my mind when getting this game. So after finishing the game, what do I personally think of it? As a rather avid VN enjoyer is this like the best written story? Personally I would say far from it. The plot of this game is just serviceable, before reading the review seeing the synopsis and the trailer is enough to tell this game borrow heavily from stuff like Modern Magical Girl story and of course the whole class trial stuff from danganronpa. So how does Majosaiban use this clear inspiration in how it tells the story, I would say generously well it not the most well written mystery ever, Part 1 is let just say rather predictable but what got me to stay honestly is the two MCs of their respective part that being Ema and
Hiro
part 1 does meander a lot and honestly the murder is not all that engaging. However what you are here for is not really the overarching plot but this Visual Novel mostly focus on it's characters, their traumas and impulsive spur of the moment killing. Ema is an amazing MC she is very relatable she have her own demons and her burdens of trying to be the MC clearly weights heavily on her, various interaction of the cast is well done and honestly I do feel bad for most of them. The witches despite being magical and have their nuance are rather people hiding themselves in their own persona. To avoid facing their own trauma, in a way the entire prison is basically like a psychiatry ward to put it bluntly. Now we gets to the best part of this visual novel part 2. Of course personally part 2 is when this game really kicks up but it's very spoiler territory so honestly it's better to read it yourself.
Part 2 pretty much follow a different MC that being of course if you seen fan art of this game it's none other than the black hair girl Nikaidou Hiro, her as the POV character of part 2 change the whole dynamic of this story. While Ema is all about power of friendship, trust and trying to become a light in the story. Hiro comes out as a cynical person, she is very grounded her entire chapter starts with her distrusting everyone even Ema. Which as part 1 ending surmise that the two have a huge history with one another. Hiro exposes the other girls as people that is way out of their depth, she pries and manipulates other not just through rebuttal and consent but also she lies to save her own skin to advance the trials. A lot of her story is shown from the perspective of the accuse most of the time since unlike Ema. Hiro is more of a blunt person who just says it as is and her obsession with justice rubs people the wrong way. Which brings up inner conflict in herself and the like. I would say though the last two trials really mend the two MC rather well in how the story boils down to human and their faults with one another. The whole story ends rather well albeit in my opinion, the message is kind of weak and is just a feel good happy ending.
Well now spoiler of part 2 is over, let's address the elephant in the room seeing how the cast are all girls compare to stuff like Danganronpa or Ace Attorney. Does the game have doses of Yuri subtext, yeah quite a bit you can easily ship some of the girls with one another. There are plot relevance to them too but it's kind lacking on that part I guess as a Yuri reader myself. The voice acting is also amazing, on it's direction or overall performance seeing the VNDB page of the VAs lots of them are like newcomers. Which means for the first game they sell the character inflection rather well especially the two MCs and their monologues including the bad ends stuff which honestly just there to pad and show the girls in bad situation or a definite gruesome end not really add anything compare to stuff like Tsukihime or Fate stuff where the bad ends are rather lend itself to the plot. Overall for the 1st game by this new Indie team, it's amazing stuff technically, presentation, music and voice acting wise. I'm excited to see their other games and would probably read it too once it released. As extra note, I can feel when this game release it's English translation proper. A lot of people will LARP hard on enjoying this game, it have all the recipe for it :p Ema, Hiro and Sherry is best girl by the way.
由于电脑问题只显示16小时,实际上已经通关。虽然说还是有一些瑕疵,但也能勉强解释。硬要说的话,肯定还是有各种各样的问题,但我想也完全能归类到这款游戏的风格里。
