No No No! Stay away !
the usual m3 experience with an unusual amount of bugs. separate volumes, a selection of custom cursors, non-resizable but much smaller windowed mode because it's from 2014 (got on steam in 2017) and a non-working widescreen toggle, so it's all 4:3 with ugly black borders on the sides. player profiles, in-game achievements (awards) screen that's nigh on impossible to read until you unlock them. settings are available anytime. no tapping in the tutorial prompts but no tooltips either. can't turn off the hint appearing after a short period of inactivity. 2 characters to choose from, makes no difference, they're both grandchildren of a witch living in a park that's about to be closed. earn cash to clean the place up and erect various buildings, solely for cosmetic and 'story' purposes. speaking of, cutscenes are unskippable. 148 levels, according to the store page and game files, unlocked one at a time, spread over multiple city locations, also unlocked one after the other. levels can't be replayed, as there's no level select, only ever forward. bummer. timed and relaxed modes, 3-star rating system based on score, so meeting all goals and finishing the level before getting all 3 stars isn't a good idea. swap, chain and 'group' (usually called pop) modes are available on every stage, but can only be switched after a cooldown, unfortunately. matching a bunch of tiles creates clickable helpers that clear a bunch of stuff around them in a surprisingly effective manner. can match while animations are happening elsewhere, cascades create matches, power-ups and remove special tiles. the 6 regular power-ups, also unlocked over the course of the game, are charged with their respective tiles. the usual assortment of destroy one tile, destroy multiple tiles in various directions, etc. not sure what the periodically appearing coins do, besides replacing a regular tile, as clicking them didn't add anything to the gold counter, nor did they count towards 'coins collected' after finishing a level, it was always zero. based on the quality of the game, I'd wager this is just another bug. graphics and music are the typical cutesy kind but I liked how they kept mixing the tiles up, wasn't the same few icons throughout the entire game. some of the tunes have a nice irish feel, should happen more often as well. sfx is non-existant, must be bugged because the sound files are there. further annoyances: graphics often go pixely between screen transitions, have to go windowed and back to fix it, and the game keeps freezing when starting a new level. nothing works but alt+f4, then I could continue from there after a restart, but since it wasn't a one-off, it really pissed me off. it's nothing you haven't seen before and not their first rodeo, so it shouldn't be this buggy, plus tagging it with trading cards that don't exist is scummy. I don't care about cards but lying (or simply making a mistake) on the store page and not fixing it or any of the other issues for nearly 10 years now means the overall impression is closer to a thumbs down. I was going to finish it, might as well, but since I was within 2 weeks of purchasing it, I opted to refund instead because restarting after almost every other level is not cool. freezing started on 7, then 9, 11 and 14, which is where I gave up. speaking of cold stuff, anawiki came out of hibernation recently and released a bunch of ai-generated mobile trash for 10-15 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dollars, so they don't deserve any money anyway, though I'll still try their older titles I already have unplayed.
To unlock levels and complete the game, you need to win up to 3 stars in each level. But those stars are won by gathering points in it, not by completing the level. So if you want 3 stars, you have to pay attention not to complete the level until you have 3 stars. If you don't pay attention to it and complete the level normaly, you will have 1 or 2 stars and won't be able to unlock all the levels. It's stupid. And the game is low res, without any true fullscreen. Play another match-3. There are so much better on steam...
This is a decent match-3 game with plenty of content -- 147 levels if you take the time to 3-star everything and unlock all of the bonus levels. There is nothing groundbreaking here, but it does everything a traditional match-3 game is supposed to do, and it does it quite well. I think anyone who has enjoyed games like Spooky Bonus, Button Tales, or Heroes of Hellas would probably like this one, too.
