Very cute game with challenging board game mechanics. Found myself really enjoying it
Roguelike Deckbuilding Map Traversal game. I only tried out the first two difficulties (maps) but got the gist of the gameplay loop. You make meals and deliver them to locations on the board (map). Each location has a chance to have a positive or negative (mostly negative from my experience). During your turn you cook or move, there's probably more mechanics but from my time this is mostly what I was doing. The issue I had was that to cook you need a specific cook card which there was like two in the deck. This made it really difficult to actually complete the objective of the game. I feel like the core mechanics are there but the game flow is a little clunky. I'll leave it as a positive review as I did enjoy my time with the game but from what I played there could be some balancing implemented.
It's a nifty little game in the style of Space Food Truck - you have a DnD-style party, and venture around the board, collecting ingredients to cook and deliver to waiting customers with a set time limit. I enjoy the various modes that change the map and distributions, though the map isn't as big as the Space Food Truck map. All in all, I think it is worth the money.
I can confidently say Mage Food Truck is another gem from One Man Left. The art, the characters, and all the little details pull you right into its quirky magical world — and this one delivers (literally). You’re running a food truck, crafting meals, and racing against time to get them to your hungry customers, while dodging bandits and other mishaps along the way in your truck. The gameplay blends turn-based strategy with deck-building mechanics. Every decision matters — from what ingredients to purchase to which route you take. It’s simple to pick up, but the layers of strategy and charm keep you coming back for “just one more shift.” Overall, it’s an enjoyable, cozy, and clever game — perfect for killing a couple of hours or getting lost in its magical kitchen chaos. One Man Left does it again!
Gentle introduction to the Card-Based Food Truck franchise? check. Annoying tutorial fairy? check. Get cursed, then drown in junk and vermin? check. Strategically kill the Bard with the One Ring, at the height of his success? check. 10/10 worth buying a full price.
Ever wondered what owning a food truck is like? Now add curses and spells & lots of chaotic fun to the mix. Mage Food truck brings rogue like, survival and even deck building wonders to the table. Starting, I didn’t really know what I was getting into but the more I played the more I began to understand how the mechanics work and the more fun I had. Starting off, I absolutely was unprepared for how much I actually enjoy it & I cannot wait to play more. I started with the 24 turn option as I feel like it was the best option to have time to understand mechanics without getting overwhelmed. Everything played super smooth and eased into each turn made. The design is super cute be it the board design, card designs, the main villain Gourmandorf (I absolutely love it!). It was definitely absolutely engaging and appealing to the eye. Card designs were great, I love the different colours for different cards. I love the way cards are portrayed & the way the store system for them is operated as well. Sound wise, I found it appealing. It’s one of those games that you don’t have to turn the soundtrack off & turn your own music on to enjoy. To basically summarize the game play each round consists of a morning, afternoon & night shift type situation. You use the cards you have in your deck to traverse the board, collect ingredients to prepare for customers and fend of the curses and spells put upon you. The end of the game is either the end of night-shift or your food truck being destroyed by curses & customers will rate you on how many orders were delivered and how much gold you made through out the day. Mage Food Truck offers a variety of ways to play, ways to win and to lose. I myself cannot wait to play again and explore the many different ways to win or lose. It’s engaging and well thought out. It’s definitely a game to replay in many different ways as each game brings you different ingredients, recipes, orders, etc A lot of the good things about the game I enjoyed are definitely the way it is played out, the music, story, etc. Even losing was fun in my opinion. I genuinely found myself wondering what would happen next or how things would turn each turn I made. One thing I did find super frustrating was the curses put on you can do a lot of damage & with very little shields and health to start with it can end very quickly if you do not play your cards right. Other than that, everything else seemed super appealing & smooth. Mage Food Truck offers many ways to play, many ways to enjoy it and so much more. With its unique design I’d definitely say that it brings a lot of intriguing moments into play. Whether you are a fan of rogue like, survival or deck building it definitely brings fun to the table. Since this was an unreleased review copy I want to give it a rating of 8/10 due to just how smooth and fun it was. I definitely cannot wait to see where the game goes in the future with levels & design.
Really nicely done with graphics, just-enough voice acting, and, of course, gameplay. I like that it's quick to pick up and play a round while still being satisfying.
Do you like western games that let you skin animals and also rob trains? Do you like space shooters with super powered heroes that recharge shields after it goes beep beep beep beep beep beep booooooooooop? Do you like collecting way too many things hidden in the map but you forgot that one thing that was in the corner three levels back so you look up where it is on Youtube and slowly and painfully realize you actually had that one it was the other one down the road you missed? Do you like disconnecting from an online session, rejoining, and realizing all your progress is lost? Do you like subscription based services? This game doesn't have any of that. It's got cards, and fun animations, and food related puns. That's way more dope than space marines.
I think I get it. Kind of a solo board game, like solitaire. Light fantasy. You realize what you did wrong the first time you lose, after that I imagine it's hard to lose, but we'll see. Reviewing now with short gametime to support the dev who I've followed since his iOS days.
I played Space Food Truck, Slay the Spire, Monster Train and then some. There are a lot of bad deck building wanna be games out there - this is simple but worth it. It only has single player, but really Space Food Truck i only played with other players in a way that was basically single player anyways. Its also greate to see that the author made another game.
