Mad Tracks

Played this game a lot in my childhood and was suprised it's on steam... 100% worth on sale. For $10, I think it's a bit short. Got all gold medals in 3 hours.

Dobrze że kupiłam tą grę na promocji za ok. 3,50zł, bo za oryginalną cenę 36zł bym płakała i domagała się zwrotu pieniędzy. Zacznijmy od tego że gra jest mocno zbugowana - nawet w ustawieniach systemu nie można ani zmienić głośności, ani grafiki ponieważ wyskakuje błąd który po naciśnięciu "ponów próbę" wyrzuca i zamyka grę. Na szczęście sterowanie da się ustawić. Po drugie część poziomów nie chce się wczytać jak np. "pora na herbatkę" którą da się jako - tako uruchomić. I teraz najgorsze: BRAK ZAPISU POSTĘPÓW! Kurde bele za każdym razem trzeba odblokowywać na nowo wszystkie tory w części "przygodowej" by po zamknięciu gry utracić wszystko. Wersja na płycie oferowała konto gracza i gra automatycznie zapisywała postęp. Jestem załamana i wściekła. Dopóki to się nie zmieni - nie będę polecać

Surprisingly fun in a nostalgic way (although I suggest getting it at a discount because it goes on sale often). The cars control fine and the powerups are mixed in usefulness but the highlight is the many play modes. Race, Knockout and Time Trial are here, with some more creative modes like: - "checkpoints in any order", - "do a Time Attack while enemies fire at you", - "drive uphill dodging props", - "drive downhill without your engine" and - "knock opponents out the arena". There's also silly minigame modes like team capture-the-flag, bowling, knocking objects, collecting candy, car billiards, car soccer and car foosball(?). These are a bit more hit-and-miss, dependant on enemy AI and ally AI, as well as revealing how janky the controls can be for precise movement (they're fine in races). You can do free play on campaign tracks as well. The campaign is interesting, you unlock new races in a non-linear fashion on an expanding graph, which makes it hard to get tired as you control how repetitive the play session gets. Some unlocks are very annoying due to the minigames, though, and some modes aren't affected by AI difficulty. Trying 100% Gold medals is not that fun and will require trial and error from stuff out of your control. This is from 2006, looks and plays the part so you'll need to change your keybinds for more sensible ones. It does feature split-screen and even split-keyboard (but keyboards today still have input limits), something thoroughly missing from today's racing games. I don't get how to collect the hidden flags for achievements because the game kicks you out, and don't know how to change the car color in campaign mode. Overall, lots of stuff we don't get in racing games anymore, making them more repetitive and lifeless nowadays. If you enjoyed old pc or console racing games from the 2000s this is worth the cheap price for sure.
