It is your usual Luxor match 3 game and there is nothing wrong with that since Luxor games are usually all nice. Works fine on Linux with Proton (Proton 4.11-11).
Luxor 3, developed by MumboJumbo and published by Accelerate Games, takes the established marble-shooter formula of the series and expands it into one of its most content-rich and feature-complete entries. Rather than attempting to radically change the core gameplay, it focuses on refining and extending what already works, offering a larger campaign, more modes, and additional progression systems that give the experience a greater sense of depth. It feels less like a reinvention and more like a culmination of ideas introduced in earlier titles, presented in a more polished and expansive form. The central gameplay remains immediately recognizable. Players control a horizontal launcher that fires colored spheres into a moving chain, aiming to create matches that eliminate sections before they reach their endpoint. This mechanic continues to strike a balance between accessibility and challenge, allowing players to quickly understand the basics while still demanding precision and foresight as difficulty increases. Success depends not only on reaction speed but also on the ability to anticipate how the chain will shift, creating opportunities for chain reactions that can clear large portions of the board. These cascading moments remain one of the most satisfying aspects of the game, rewarding careful planning and execution. What distinguishes Luxor 3 is the scale of its content and the variety of ways it presents its core mechanics. The main adventure mode spans a large number of levels, each introducing variations in layout, speed, and complexity that gradually push players to refine their skills. While the fundamental gameplay does not change significantly, the diversity in stage design helps maintain engagement over a longer period. In addition to the main campaign, the game includes multiple alternative modes that offer different challenges, such as endurance-based survival scenarios or more controlled puzzle-style encounters. These modes provide a welcome change of pace and help extend the game’s replayability, even if they rely on the same underlying systems. The introduction of a more developed progression system adds another layer to the experience. Players can collect in-game currency and items that allow them to unlock and upgrade power-ups, giving a sense of growth that was less pronounced in earlier entries. These power-ups play a crucial role during gameplay, offering abilities that can slow down the advancing chain, reverse its movement, or clear large sections instantly. The ability to enhance these tools over time encourages players to revisit levels and improve their performance, adding a subtle but meaningful incentive for continued play. Visually, the game continues the series’ Egyptian theme, presenting environments filled with stylized temples, hieroglyphic patterns, and desert-inspired imagery. While the presentation is not particularly advanced, it is clean and functional, ensuring that players can easily track the movement of spheres and focus on the action. The visual clarity becomes especially important during more intense moments, where multiple elements are in motion simultaneously. The soundtrack complements this with energetic and thematic compositions that reinforce the sense of urgency as levels become more challenging. Despite its expanded content and refined systems, Luxor 3 still faces some of the same limitations as its predecessors. The reliance on a single core mechanic means that, over time, the experience can begin to feel repetitive, particularly during longer play sessions. While the variety of modes and level designs helps mitigate this to some extent, the game rarely introduces entirely new ideas that significantly change how it is played. Additionally, the randomness of incoming spheres can occasionally influence outcomes, creating moments where success feels less controlled than intended. Even with these drawbacks, Luxor 3 remains a highly engaging and accessible puzzle experience that builds effectively on the strengths of the series. It offers a substantial amount of content, a satisfying gameplay loop, and enough variation to keep players invested for extended periods. The game’s focus on refinement rather than reinvention results in a polished and cohesive experience that delivers exactly what fans expect, while still providing enough additions to feel worthwhile. In the end, Luxor 3 stands as one of the most complete entries in the franchise, offering a well-rounded and content-rich take on the marble-shooter formula. It may not push the genre in new directions, but it executes its design with confidence and consistency, making it a strong choice for players who enjoy straightforward yet challenging puzzle gameplay. Rating: 8/10
Used to play this game as a little kid, and now I can play it again with my adult money on steam yippe :D I love it so much, the graphics, the sound effects, visual effects are insane for its time period yum
I miss when you bought a game and you just got the whole game. Fun. Play it. Or don't. I ain't yo mamma.
Addictively frustrating and satisfying in equal measure. The games gets harder as you progress and that's when the chalenge to complete levels can be sometimes frustrating. But this is true for most games anyway. The soundtrack is superb also.
