This is far more interesting than the usual free VR offerings on Steam. Some really impressive visuals and the birds eye view videos of South Dakota were really stunning. It showed me a fascinating world that I never knew about and you really can't ask for more than that from a free VR app. The lack of r-stick directional controller movement is a bit of a drag but when something is this neat and costs zero dollars, it's an easy thing to overlook.
Experienced on the Oculus Quest 2
This is an educational tour of the Sanford Rsearch Lab and Wind Cave. This experience is running on the Unity Engine. It is about 10 GB total of install space. You fly around by pressing trigger. You see 360 stereoscopic video of the facility. The video renders well, but isn't the highest quality 3D visuals I have seen. However, the information is very detailed and informative. It's basically about the search for dark matter. If the subject matter interests you, I would say this is a must download. For anybody else though, I would say this is probably a pass. It's free, but the material can be kind of dry unless you're into the topic matter. Also, the UI/UX and just the overall presentation could have been more polished.

If you love science, and interested in dark matter and how they study it, this is a great VR documentary. Appreciate the effort went into this, I really enjoyed it! :) Thank you
Artistically beautiful, however it fails to be the wonderful science communication piece that it could be. Artistic licence and sharing other cultures cross over into pseudoscience, putting dreams on a level with hard-won scientific knowledge. I really wanted to love this, and I think it has promise, but it's a better tech demo than education piece.
Set in the Black Hills of South Dakota, LUX SINE takes viewers through two underground tunnels, one used by particle physicists at the Stanford Underground Research Facility and the other part of the Lakota people's creation story, where the cosmos can be explored from different and diverse perspectives. The interested viewer moves through a former gold mine, the Homestake Gold Mine, which has been transformed into a state-of-the-art laboratory many feet underground. Here, scientists have set up a cosmic microphone to study nothing less than the fabled Dark Matter. At the same time, however, the visually awesome storytelling takes participants into the vast underground network known as the Wind Cave. A labyrinth of ancient passages that is at the heart of the Lakota Sioux Native American creation story. ... The viewer can move freely in the corridors of the underground facility by trigger flying. One or the other might get a little sick at this, but the movement is very slow and one can get used to it so well. The 360° videos shown are unfortunately not always of good quality, even if you turn up the super sampling. But the information content is really very high for a free program. This could be a bit boring for some viewers, especially since the program is in English. But for people who are interested in the topic of dark matter, also spiritually, this film is very worth seeing. Those who are interested in the research of Dark Matter can watch this Interactive Documentary, for others it is rather a bit long winded despite great presentation. 👀With tailwind in the sail ears and raised thumbs on my curator side. *Experienced on the Valve Index* Nicely put together educational experience. Visually beautiful and informative. I was impressed with the amount of content and quality, especially for a free experience.
Its kinda cool but I wish the 360 videos were of higher quality, looks like blurry VHS experience unfortunately, 180VR is honestly much better experience were video is crystal clear and you can decide what you wanna show instead of having to contantly spin around. Story was weird, there was some science experiment and then we were on tunnels and some indian dance festival tbh I have no clue what all that was about.
LUX SINE is a free VR experience that is a documentary about science and spiritual belief. It worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. Two different programs to watch: about exploration of dark matter in Sanford Research Lab and about myths and tradition of Lakota people. There are several wrong things about this program: bad Volumetric video texturing on the interviews, and you have explore around to look for the next content hotspot. Has several hours of content, but might be boring to most users. Warning: Some of the 360 degree videos might trigger motion sickness or fear of falling. Try this only, if you like science.
