Haven't finished the game, and it's not really my cup of tea, so bear that in mind. What I did see was an actually all right Unity horror game. It's not just scream loudly at you jump scares, which I like. There was voice acting, which was not expected. It's not the most amazing voice acting (and I don't expect an $8 indie game to have that), but it seemed better than other games in the same caliber as this. The lore bits built into the notes (for guiding, rather than a stupid collectathon we've seen a million times before) and the save points are interesting, and cleverly say whatr to do in an understandable, yet indirect fashion. However, the game is very quiet and dark when you don't have your torch (and the torch actually illuminates! Yay!) At the end of the day, Lurk isn't the most amazing thing since sliced bread. It is particular style of horror game that knows what it is about, and has actually had genuine effort put into (which seems in short supply on the Unity engine these days.) If you're into the exploration horror style of games, then I'd say to give this one a try.
Horror isn't normally my genre, but this game was punchy enough with its story and gameplay that I couldn't help but want to finish it after picking it up. The price is well worth the number of hours that you can get out of exploring the game, though it can be beaten pretty fast if that is your goal.

Equipamento é ruim pra dedéu e as longas caminhadas fazem enjoar do jogo. Minha nota é a média, 5/ 10
I LOVED this game. Anyone who is on the fence about getting it, should get it for sure! It is not a super long game, but it is very full with objectives and depending on how quick you figure things out, the faster you will get through the game. The ending also perhaps hints at providing another game to continue with this one, and I REALLY hope that is the case. This is my play through, but everyone should for sure play it for themselves :D! 7.5/10 Bon jeu. Énigmes pas trop difficiles, une bonne dynamique. Bestiaire diversifié, durée raisonnable avec de bonnes frayeurs. Histoire simple mais intéressante.
Well what do ya know. I almost forgot about this review that I was originally gonna do months ago when I released, but eh, whatever. I was going to make a review video for the game, but chose not to. With this said, here's my review based on things I can recall knowing that the game hasn't been really updated since it's release. -I wasn't expecting too much considering Swamp Sim was a thing, but it actually wasn't all that bad. The story itself was pretty good, but not really the main focus of the game. It's mostly just a bunch of talk about the beasts that live in close proximity of each other and apparently never ran into each other. -The gameplay was okay for the most part, but I was unable to complete the game. From what I remember, there was a mission where I had to go visit a lake or something, and my compass guided me to a giant rock wall where a lever slot was supposed to be. Didn't see the slot at all, and I scaled that whole damn wall for an hour while also getting killed off by the stamp-faced lookin' ass. Pretty annoying when the game grew kinda stale on me with backtracking and certain repeating enemy encounters that were almost impossible to avoid. Also, the compass had spasms for extremely long periods of time, which was frustrating for trying to travel. -The audio was actually pretty well made, so I don't really have much to say other than that. Plus pretty good voice acting to boot. -The enemies at least had some variety, and I especially loved the cemetary demon. As much as I hate to admit it, the cheap little loud-as-balls jumpscare got me, and it didn't feel random because I just wasn't paying attention to my surroundings. When it wasn't in the cemetary and it chased me out of the blue, that actually scared the ♥♥♥♥ outta me to see it creeping right behind me. As for the rest: the wolf got me a few times, but got old soon enough; the stamp-face got me once, then it wore off on me; those monsters in the large rocks were somewhat scary, but it became annoying when they could chase me pretty far beyond the rocks and still actively look for me in the far off forest by the lake; and yeah, that's all I gotta say about them. The environment was alright, but could've been a bit more insightful on directions when the compass would start to spasm. Lurk is a game that isn't bad, but isn't exactly good. There's obvious issues that need to be resolved that haven't yet, like the compass directions being unclear, buggy, etc. If you think you can get farther than me, and I was only missing that one mission because of that bug, then shoot, you can give the game a shot. I'm only giving this a Not Recommended because this game's barely been touched upon after it's release on Steam to fix these issues that annoyed me pretty well. With this said, I hope ya'll have a lovely day.
I only bought this game for a background but I gave it a shot out of generosity. Generally speaking this is a not an average horror game from what I've witnessed as it builds a world upon itself. Setting itself in a medieval-like setting and overall builds up the story in a way where everything fits together like puzzle pieces for something a lot of small horror games generally struggle to do. Atmosphere feels perfect and the overall shift of certain areas helps with it blending overall surprisingly well. Although I wished artistically that it would lean more into the aspect of 'A world ending Eclipse that is looming over your head as you're going through through the pitch black abyss of the forest' they wanted to make the general monoliths of the center a more visually marveling point. Which I can entirely understand the limits of the unity engine. Monsters feel well designed/intended with purpose and fit where they are designed. Nothing feels out of place and everything has otherworldly sounds showing that what is hunting you isn't human. [strike] Except for one of them. [/strike]
I'M COMING. 🗣️
Although I'd recommend it for just the overall feel. There are a few gripes I will admit I have with the game that just make it insanely hard to immerse yourself absolutely fully. I will spoiler any part of it that ties with the completion of the game. 1.) Some of the required pieces to complete the game feel as if they blended too well with the background/felt as if they didn't connect. I want to explain this a bit more without spoiling anything right away though when I first got into the game I would find the graveyard first. Clearly you would find that something on-par to a puzzle element and that there was something to give you a clear objective. Either it was me starting off in the worst area is entirely up to you but I felt that was the general idea from what was presented on itself. Once solved you would obtain a story component that was essential for the final pedestal. Spoilers ahead specifically for a 'easier' yet not as obvious required key component:
Specifically in an area that appears to be a ruined church/ruined hideaway there would be these buildings that felt as if they blended with the background. These specific buildings had one specific set of wooden beams that didn't entirely look breakable so I ultimately found that specific key component last. Whether this specific set of wooden beams was more noticably worn/looked more broken I wouldn't have had this issue.
2.) When I saw initially that you had to find items that you would require to keep yourself alive/add security to your torch. I felt initially as if they were going to be scarce. I'm not sure if this is specifically a fault of the unity engine. Though when finding boxes to break for supplies for the first time. You would think that you would have to conserve/make sure that none of the items you found went to waste once you found them. As you don't have any room for error given that you are distant from all realm of supply. This isn't the case however once you move out of an area/move a distance away from the area when the crates have a tendency to respawn. Usually I would try to ignore it but with the previous statement I made about certain key elements not being obvious you would run around in circles, finding the same boxes that you found once before as you kept bumping your head into the same set of crates. 3.) A non-serious one. Though one regardless: I specifically have one against a certain design as it threw me off entirely from my careful nature into a 'I'm laughing every time I encounter them'
I'm. COMING.
It's specifically a monster in one of the areas. Though to spoil anything but the fact that it sounds like he's enjoying himself way too much. He talks constantly and it throws you out of your immersion way too hard for you to ever come back into the game. Though asides all of those gripes. I would still recommend this game as it is a mere 5 dollars and I appreciate the effort the developers went to creating a story and things that connect even if some things fall flat on its face.
TL:DR: Alright game. Has its flaws. Genuinely surprised me out of what developers could do with the Unity Engine even if this game is obscure.
