Lugaru HD

Nearly a year ago, I bought this game, curious, left a negative review due to the bugs, and promptly refunded the game. Recently, it was on sale, and I decided to give it another go. After some minor digging, I found an open source version of the game, which had been equipped with many bug fixes. Having a functional version of the game in hand, I proceeded to have some of the most fun I've had playing a video game. It requires some practice to get to know the combat system and enemy AI, but makes you feel like the chosen hero, blessed with unrivaled combative abilities. If you enjoy either kung-fu-hero-esque blended stealth and combat, intense close range fights, and don't mind the many mishaps you'll have trying to gain proficiency, or, are a furry, I'd recommend you give the game a shot. If none of the above applies to you, I'd still recommend at least trying it(refund is always an option, though it's 2$ on sale).

I haven't played this game for 8 years, and that is for a very good reason. This game is bad. Like, really, really bad. My younger brother loves it, and I weep for him. I would never recommend this game to anyone. Even towards my enemies. Please avoid this game.

Fantastic game. This is where it all started for Overgrowth. While I was looking for the aforementioned game, I stumbled upon this and had to get it as it looked like an MDickie game but with bipedal animals. Something about low poly models with good texture work and very open natural environments that feel 'lonely' is peak graphical nostalgia for me personally. Despite this graphical simplicity, there is a surprising attention to detail with the wolf smell system and wind simulation. The combat, while hard to bite into at first, is pretty in-depth for a 2005 indie game made by a teenager (supposedly). You can throw knives, reverse attacks, sprint on all fours and tackle your enemies, etc. I recommend going through the tutorial several times to see what I mean and to get used to it before you play. The storyline is a revenge plot with a few added conspiracy spices, where our protagonist goes after the raiders who destroyed his village and family before finding himself caught in a grand scheme involving the wolves. There isn't much to it besides that and a rather f--ked-up moment later on (if you know, [i] you know... [/i]). If you're still hungering for rabbit fighters going at it after beating the game, I recommend going to Wolfire's website and onto Lugaru's page for mods. Highly recommend if you want to see where Overgrowth's backbone originated, even if there is an updated and improved version of the game in Overgrowth's campaigns.

Overgrowth has rendered this game completely obsolete due to it including a full remake of the Lugaru campaign. BUT... I guess it still holds somewhat of a nostalgic value for a very specific era of indie 3D games, also can run incredibly well on any toaster and glorified potatoes.

Seems fun but I can't get past the fourth or fifth level without the game crashing and erasing all my progress :(
