Lugaru HD

not a bad game but it sure looks like a very outdated old school game but it came out in 2005... you're furry in the most generic and poor excuse of a village ever, just a bunch of blocks and a super generic rock formation. theres no excuse for this when the original WOW and im looking up images, was more lively with more buildings and npc's. this game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ empty. and theres still a massive map. shortly after the game starts, once in a while the screen flashes red as if you died but instead either A it triggers the next thing or it kicks you out to the menu.. wtf? and it may freeze... the combat is garbage and unfair due to being extremely limited on keyboard plus enemies easily and ultimately overwhelm you by ignoring any attacks you throw at them and beat you up. you jump around too much and too far, weapons are pretty useless, countering wasnt clear, mostly because button combos are all over the keyboard. lugaru is heavily lacking. whats the plot? well on google it says wolves are attacking and its wrong as always because traitorous bunnies are attack instead and a tiny invisible map. wtf

Nice piece of history, and actually much more complex fighting style than the Overgrowth. I think that it is certainly worth a try. Also I think that the graphics are really pleasing, but that is just my personal opinion.

After enduring countless years, the esteemed masterpiece known as Lugaru HD continues to shine as a concise, yet astonishing video game that spares no mercy for those who engage in lackadaisical battles. I am compelled to caution that utmost vigilance is imperative, with a keen eye on the calculated movements of adversaries, while maintaining constant readiness to retaliate or skillfully parry, for it is the sole path to survival amidst such unforgiving artificial intelligence. However, perseverance shall eventually unveil the intricate dance of combat hidden within this remarkable creation. Alas, should one fail to grasp its essence, even the mildest of challenges will yield no pleasure. Truly, this opus stands as a bona fide classic, reserved solely for those who relish the trials of arduous and punitive warfare, intertwined with somber undertones that lend it an aura of darkness.

Lugaru is awesome, I've actually played through it's campaign and a bunch of mod campaigns before I ever got it on Steam. I love this game, it seems stupid at first but it really grows on you if you give it a chance.

I'm throwing this review way back. I remember downloading the demo to this game onto my school issued computer, probably back when it was originally released in 2005. This demo was (I think) the first 3 levels of this full game. I just bought it for $2 this winter sale and I actually cannot believe how well the gameplay holds up. The gameplay is far and away the most impressive part of this game. The combat and takedowns feel SO good. I know the developers went and expanded on this game in their release 'Overgrowth', which I haven't played, but for something that came out in 2005 I can't believe how well the combat holds up. Every hit, whether with fists or weapons, feels so heavy and good for what is essentially a martial arts game demo. I don't know if it's worth it to buy since the game is over 15 years old now, going on 20, but I will say that it is definitely underrated. As of writing this, there are only about ~250 reviews and I think that's a shame. Lugaru will always be a fun curiosity from my childhood, but unlike most things from childhood, this one actually stands up to scrutiny...even though going through it as an adult, it is clearly furry bait...it still gets a pass from me.
