Enter Yurushi, a sprawling Metropolis and Earth’s largest city. You play as a young engineer who has recently been laid off by the Niven Megacorporation. Like many millions of others, this means a move back to the Saitama Slums, a vast wasteland, populated by the new ‘useless classes’ made unemployable by the adoption of artificial intelligence powered automata. You are recruited by the charismatic leader Red Ludd who is assembling a resistance to this mass obsolescence, a group known simply as the Luddites.
In Luddite you and your team will be using your engineering skills to hack into these automata and cripple their systems. Revenge for being cast aside and a reprieve for the millions of workers who are still to lose their livelihoods, but beware, the mega corporations did not get to this position playing fair. Those caught in acts of sabotage will not be treated kindly or fairly by the system.
Luddite is a campaign game which follows the narrative of a custom made graphic novel of the same name. Featuring hundreds of beautiful pieces of art by the talented Adam Beachey, Luddite is playable solo, or multiplayer and can be played cooperatively or competitively. The campaign can be reset and replayed indefinitely and the game allows for an unlimited number of players to take part. Luddite gameplay fuses classic roll and write mechanisms with a novel, push your luck style system. Players must race against the clock to damage the AI systems and get out before the countermeasures can kick in.

I have received the Game as part of the Boardgame Kickstarter. If you are familiar with Boardgames then this is a relatively simple roll and write with slightly different maps and rules for each stage in the campaign. The principle is nice and definitely something that is worth exploring over a couple of hours. (hence why i backed the Kickstarter) The game on Steam for 10$ is definitely not worth it. For one it is extremely short, i 100% this in just under 3 hours. The story is told in between levels in voiced over comic style. Think Max Payne. The Art is very nice and the story ok. We have heard it before and some of the lines are taken right from successful media. The intermissions that tell the story take about an hour, which leaves gameplay for the 6 levels before the end at just under 2 hours top. With what i now know about the game, i could probably play it through in under an hour. The variations between the levels is interesting but feel not consquential enough for a computer game. Also the last couple of levels suffer from the fact that you start on the exit, which, if you calculate dice economy, works out to just solvable if you never move, making the "board" part of the game ... irrelevant. To me this feels like an ordinary Kickstarter bonus and would even go so far as to call the implementation "lazy". On a 4k monitor there is absolutely no need to have the different parts not open during Gameplay (especially the collected tools!), while the vertical board is too tiny compared to some of the popups, with the switches on the top left corner even being obscured without zooming out. May i offer some suggestion for the digital version of the game: - Add a campaign that takes about 10 hours to play through. You don't have to voice it all. - Add free play with parameters you can set. - Add a "suspend current level" option. While the levels do not take long to solve (they are mostly in the range of 10 minutes), sometimes they do take longer, and i do not always write down the last password. - Add interesting achievements to offer some challenges inside the levels, like "lock more than 5 switches during a level and win". or something. - The levels are too easy even on hard, especially since you can simply count out the number of dice each dmg point will take before even starting the level. Just increasing the cap does not necessarily make them more difficult. - If there is no undo (and i find that ok) please do explain the gimmicks better. I totally did not understand the "arrow" until i placed a 1 in a down arrow as first die. * Check the size of the visible screen and have all possible popups open by default (and make them not able to be moved around at all). This is something that "float" + any browser can do since like 2005 or so. Maybe even make the base game (as it is now) free and add an optional DLC with a longer campaign. I think that would work just as well and not alienate the Kickstarter backers.

Luddite

The Story
I love the graphic novel and the implementation into steam.
The Helpful Video
And after watching the explanation video, i understood how to move around and what strategy is a good one.
Conculsion
Now i am happy to have backed this kickstarter and sure, i am using the right rules at the table.
Interesting puzzle, beautiful graphics.
