I have been loving the art style, guns and gambling my money away for upgrades but theres alot that just falls short in the game for me. I like how it is a live stream and people chat and send money but the messages get annoying. The bosses die in 10 seconds. there is no point at all to melee because you will get hit by the enemy instantly. The areas to fight in get repetitive and I find myself just grouping up enemies to die to explosive barrels to kill alot of them which is okay but defeats the purpose of running and gunning. I could have a 70 killstreak and the game still throws out text saying BORING. Not sure why the other negative review says the shotgun is bad when I think its the most op and having the double gun ability makes me mow through the bosses. for $5 its not a terrible game but its not that great either. Just needs to get some things fixed. Also been having issues whenever I get an upgrade my curser will just disappear and I have to tab out of the game and go back in for it to appear and chose an upgrade
Luckrot is a game set in a dystopian future where Elon Musk was successful in his attempt to become the shadow president of the United States and kick is bigger than amazon. I think everyone can agree that the appeal of a “boomer shooter” is the high octane gameplay, that's the thing that these games consistently have over AAA shooters, as the latter tends to put more effort into graphical fidelity or showmanship than gameplay, and this is true for luckrot but it doesn't mean that it has lackluster presentation. The brutalist look of the arenas, the design of the freaks, etc, the game has a lot of things that aids in its presentation and world building; my favorite of these is how the un-upgraded weapons look uninteresting and the upgrades are just, vials of green goo, as if, the only weapons that the streamer can get are bargain bin used guns. Speaking of guns they are pretty basic, you have your ARs, your shotguns, your sniper rifles, etc. However this is not a detriment in my opinion, as I’ve mentioned before, the lack of futuristic guns helps with worldbuilding but it also means that the learning curve is non-existent, you can immediately hop on the game and understand what each gun does. Movement also doesn't get too crazy; you have your double jump, slide, dodge, as well as wall jumping, nothing out of the ordinary but I must remark that the movement in this game is very responsive. One of my criticisms of the game is adjacent to this, the movement is indeed responsive and fun, and so, this game is at its best when you're hopping around shooting enemies while wall jumping and such, however, weapons like the AR and specially the burst riffle work best while stationary so I never really go for those weapons and getting then on the lootbox feels wasteful. One of the most unique aspects of this game is the progression, Weapons and buddy bots are upgraded by gambling your donations (after their cut) for the little vials of green goo, and if you die in the middle of a run you don't lose all your upgrades just 1 level, so if your shotgun is level three when you die, the next time you play and you roll a shotgun it will be level 2. I like this, in rogue-likes every run is imminently consequential, as you gain experience and learn the game a little bit more, but in this game doomed runs are materially consequential as well, it makes it so runs that you're clearly going to lose feel not so senseless. Besides guns you also get upgrades for your playable character, another criticism I have is that these feel particularly unbalanced, some are very strong, like higher rate of fire and the double wield, and some are very weak like the grapple or the death penalty. I love the freaks, all of their designs feel iconic to me, they look silly while in constant pain, they also make very compelling enemies, with a mixture of clever AI and good spawning points it makes it almost impossible to funnel them into a corridor and shoot them until they all die, this is because if you remain stationary for a while it won't be long until some of the freaks try to flank you, the magenta freaks stay behind the other freaks or far away from you so they can snipe you, the blue freaks slow you down making it easier for the other freaks to hit you, etc; and while, for the most part, the freaks per room number, is very manageable in act 1, act 2 and 3 they become actual swarms, and letting then backing you into a corner can lead to you losing most of your health if not to the end of your run. I love the balancing of the freaks in act 2 and 3, but if I had any criticisms here it would be that I think health drops are a bit scarce, as I've said, in those rooms the number of freaks gets crazy, and so, you need to play it safe, shoot a little into to hoard and back up to regen some of your health and do it again, I think that if health were to drop more often it could give the player a bit more confidence in playing riskier; or maybe this is a skill issue on my part. In conclusion: I love this game and I highly recommend it. One of my favorites of the year so far.
just needs a lot more stuff and would become a goat. more chat messages too
feels a little like a Serious Sam game, but braindead. no actual need for dancing with weapons, you just run around the map spamming or holding LMB. it gets old really quick, all of the arenas feel the same, there are just more enemies as the game goes on. and even the bosses are all really the same, and theyre easier than the actual waves of enemies, just because its holding LMB over one target instead of aiming at others too. all of them are badly designed the only positive thing about this game is the artstyle - i like the idea behind it, but still, its actual execution is of amateur quality. and despite the graphics trying to look like a 2000s game, it can get really laggy in the later stages, just bad optimization. dont recommend, its fun for the first 15 minutes and tolerable for the next 45, beyond the first hour i dont see why anyone would play this, its bad, but theres a good core idea the dev or devs can work on i guess
Combat is fun & artstyle is really cool. though it relies a bit too much on rng. and the stupid fkn room with the swinging hammers is still BS
Short, fun arena shooter with a style akin to Cruelty Squad. Definitely worth the price tag! Hopefully we see more updates to this game or more from the developer in general. In its current state I'd give it an 8/10 for style and for the good ideas therein, and would again mention that it's certainly worth the price of entry. TLDR: Short game, fun game. Shoot guys, get money, kill the corpos.
I'm on TV!
Worth every penny, loved the goth girl baddie boss battle, and her little gooners. 10/10 would pay triple to play it again.
Luckrot is a very realistic simulator about living in a hellish capitalistic dystopia... oh wait... that's the current world. The game on the other hand is a very fun roguelite shooter with its graphics reminding me of Cruelty Squad, while the gameplay is something akin to Mullet Madjack and oldschool Painkiller. I did enjoy my time with this title even if for some people it seems to be too easy / too hard. There are still some bugs that need to be fixed as well as optimization. Besides that this is a solid one. Now quick, my luck is past the point of rotting. I once gambled my wife for a ps5. The ps5 runs well. See you guys in Luckrot 2: Electric Flatline Bongo Bonker!
