HIGHLY RECOMMEND GIVING LOVEBYTE A TRY!!! Now for a more serious and in depth review... Despite being in early access, Lovebyte.exe is incredibly well developed and has you hooked from the first click! I decided to give the game a try after seeing it in my release calendar and the comparison to Mystic Messenger (MM has a near and dear place in middle school me’s heart) and I was not disappointed. Even though I initially feared I wouldn't understand much of the game due to not really knowing much about VTubers, I was quickly soothed by how there's easily accessible definitions you can hover over. Another adorable feature is that you can decorate your desktop with cute stickers of your favorite oshi, funny character quotes, and even shimejis! Because the game is still in early access, there is the occasional bug (as to be expected). Whenever you do encounter them, the team is wonderful and their dedication is extremely apparent. So far, I wish there were more accessibility options as far as visuals of chats go and I also think a greater variance in Biscord chat speed would be a great addition. (For now, I’m playing at the speed that is set for you at the start of the game. Though I’d like something just a bit faster without having to use instant. It’s a finicky feature that I intend to mess around with more.) Also, the update roadmap they’ve provided is a great reference and can ultimately help you decide if you want to wait and binge each route at once or prolong your journey so you fall further in love with the love interests. (Ahem ahem… I recommend prolonging your journey…) Now onto the actual gameplay! After playing through all the available gameplay (so far) for each route, Solo Lightracer is definitely my favorite with Forever Frog and WizardPit following closely after. Each love interest is unique with their own personalities, fears, and interests. It gives a perfect blend of dating sim and reality! Now onto specific Love Interest reviews! (POSSIBLE SPOILERS... hopefully I managed to avoid any!) Route 1 - MINK!! Mochaberry Mink seemed to be the easiest route for me as I found myself on her path multiple times. If I had to describe this in a singular trope, it’s definitely friends to lovers. Mink’s route is incredibly wholesome and full of love for their oshi’s. Route 2 - Forever Frog Frog was the second easiest route for me and is truly the definition of don’t judge a book by its cover. His eclectic taste in emojis threw me off at first, but from there I was completely sold. Not only is he sweet and caring, he’s also sensitive and just wants mc to be happy. So if you’re in need of a laugh or smile, try Forever Frog’s route! Route 3 - Pochima Pochima was my third route and I found her path to feel more mature. Her demeanor can come off more serious with proper punctuation and quite literal meanings, but I found this to be a breath of fresh air and honestly quite relatable. As an added note, I would never try and go against her in a battle of trivia on the oshi’s. I truly surrender on the front and if you’re willing to give Pochima a try… surrender to her love! Route 4 - Solo Lightracer Solo is the love interest that captured my heart fully. He’s an incredibly complex character that requires support, understanding, and lots of love. The exploration of his emotions and how they vary through situations was incredible and truly adds to his route. When on his path, it can feel slower than others but I believe this is likely done on purpose. My hope is that Solo is like a slowly budding flower just waiting to bloom, and with mc’s help he’ll get there eventually and have many moments similar to the other routes. In not so many words, Solo is an absolute darling and I love him so much. If you try his route (which you should), be kind to him and support his love for Zeta! Route 5 - WizardPit Wizard was by far the hardest route for me to get, but it was worth every minute of my struggles. He’s a rage baiter extraordinaire and I found it difficult to go toe to toe with him since I gravitate towards more friendly interactions. If you like love interests who struggle to express themselves, then Wizard is the one for you! All jokes aside, Wizard is an incredible character who displays real psychological dynamics that was interesting to see in a game. If you have the patience or have a knack for rage baiting then give Wizard a try. Route 6 - Dolphin Daddy (DD) DD was the route I looked forward to the least out of all the love interests, but after giving him a chance, I was pleasantly surprised. If I could sum him up into one word it’d be money. His route is defined by it in many ways (none negative) and it can make the average person a little uncomfy unless you adopt a delulu and chaotic attitude. Over time, there’s hints of something beyond his chaotic persona that lure you in. (In theory, I think there’s way more under the surface than what we’ve seen so far in what’s currently available in his route.) I think that you should give DD a shot, but I’d never hold it against anyone if they didn’t want to. As an added note, I absolutely adore Lovebyte and every single love interest. I can’t wait to see where the game goes from here and thank you for giving us the gift that is Lovebyte. Can’t wait for future updates <3
