Solid fun game, with some tricky platforming and fun exploration. Finding secrets, extra power ups was really the best part of the game for me and finding new pieces of lore. The combat might be the weakest link here, unfortunately some enemies only seemed to be able to attack me me once then they just stood there and we hugged each other, I think a few tweaks could make the combat solid. Personally I would have liked to see a bit faster Stamina regen allowing me to stay in combat constantly instead of having to go in and out of combat. And allowing me to roll behind enemies would also give the player more strategy during combat, but maybe this would be OP? Personally I would have liked checkpoints, or going of the edge not killing you (pretty fun that it killed the enemies as well). But I can definitely see this being what people are looking for. More in the vane of jump king, where if you die you go back all the way to the beginning and I respect that vision for the game. There seemed to be a lot of lore pieces that built up the world around you and then there we're others that in the same swoop also told a short story. Sometimes it was about the boss right before you faced them, or it was a thief stealing money. In the end, the game i worth the money if you like difficult games with punishing platforming and fun exploration! PS. super cute doggo dev art <3

When a game is so cheap you might make allowances for it based on the price, but to my mind this isn't a good game no matter what it costs. It's described as a rogue-like platformer with combat, and of those three things only two are accurate and neither are any better than vaguely competent. Which is a shame, as it's quite nice looking, with colourful artwork and pleasant animation. The controls are responsive and technically it's fairly sound, but the game-play is woolly, basic and clumsy. The supposed "rogue-like" elements are not what I would consider "rogue-like" and add nothing to the experience other than an excuse to send you right back to the beginning of the game when you die. You don't get random weapons, items or buffs etc, so there is nothing fresh introduced on every new run. If the diversity of the action and restrictions that force the player to adapt are what makes a game a "rogue-like", and this has none of that, then therefore it can't be one. instead it's a really basic hack and slash with basic platforming, and then a verrrrry thin veneer of "depth" that is also basic, in that you can upgrade your character in meaningless incremental ways. The combat doesn't feel great or exciting, even if it is functional, and the same can be said for the platforming. Some of the design choices are bad, such as: Fall off a platform here and you die, fall too far and you die, but oh! Make a leap of faith here and it's fine. There was one bit where I could get to it and the fall didn't hurt me, but having got there I couldn't get back up and the only thing else to do was drop to my death and restart all over again. You can't scroll the view at all, so you just have to take a chance that a hidden area is going to be below. This happens twice within the first five minutes of the game. One is a hidden area, the other is the bit where I got stuck. Now, in a game where death takes you back to the beginning, it isn't so bad doing this right at the start, but what if they do it later? It's tedious, not fun and I had to force myself to play it for twenty minutes just so I could leave this review. Otherwise after ten minutes I would have said it's pretty mediocre and never played it again. What a waste of some nice graphics.
This is the Flappy Bird of soulslike platformers. It's a little rough around the edges. But the difficult platforming, unforgiving deaths, and unexpectedly immersive lore create a very addicting experience!
I found this game through posts on r/BisexualTeens and I was hooked immediately, it is a very cool concept, and I really liked the gameplay, however, when you die on Level 2, there aren't exactly checkpoints and you just start over, I am fine with this, as I can just get back, but it's still a tad bit annoying, I will play more later and update my review, though!
I quite like it and I see a lot of potential in this game. It is much appreciated how smooth it feels for how new it is. For I find that new, especially indie games seem to be very rough around the edges. There are two things that i feel would make the game a lot more convenient to play. One thing being the ability to hold on to the edge of cliffs and pull yourself up. The other being adding a save at the end of each boss fight. Other than that, keep up the good work Jubei!
Pretty cool for a first game. If you're into Soulslikes and pixel art platformers give it a try.
Old school platformer with Rogue Light Elements not the biggest fan of these type of games but this is pretty catchy and the controls feel on point 10 out of 10
I would say the top review summed things up pretty well, but to reiterate: This is a cool game. The things that stand out to me the most are the pixel art (really quite beautiful) and the soundtrack, and of course the fact that this was made by a single high school student! The platforming is decent, and so is the combat, although getting hit by enemies doesn't have much weight behind it, so its hard to tell if you've taken damage unless you're constantly looking at your health. I would say the combat is the weakest part of the design here. I would love to go more in-depth, but unfortunately this game did not run very well on my laptop, so I could not really play very much of it. But for just 99 cents, this is worth checking out!
Its a cute and nice game, Its fun to figure out, although its a bit frustating at points. But all in all a nice game and an intresting challenge to firgure out :)
I can't get past a boss, but the game is still really fun. I absolutely love the platforming. There's no checkpoints from what I can see which can be annoying from time to time. I'd recommend it if u have nothing else do like me and just want to mess around.
