Lost Cartridge - Cold Read

Lost Cartridge - Cold Read is a nod to classic RPGMaker horror games made in the late 2000s, and early 2010s. It's a nice little adventure with a lot of secrets to find, and lore to unpack.

[h1]A cozy and hostile adventure.[/h1] •[b]Sadistically[/b] rewards curiosity with plenty of interaction dialog, or a detailed and gruesome work of sprite art. •Unsettling monsters that are never too far away. •A mysterious story that may evoke some all-to-familiar memories in those who were teens in the 2000's. Rewarding to replay, as the game can be cleared quite fast, once you commit where's what to memory. There's significant more freedom to tackle objectives than there was in Lily's Well, Pure Blue Ice's previous title. I appreciate that Pure Blue Ice took the time to implement multiple save files this time, as that cut down on the tedium of 100%ing greatly. Looking forward to the next game!

First of all, coming off Lilys Well I really tried to like this game but I just couldnt. Maybe it's because I'm a big dumb dumb, but I couldn't understand what the story is about at all. Since you can solve the puzzles at any order you like you also get the story elements in random order aswell and you have to put the puzzle pieces together in your head. Well I couldnt keep track of all the different people, who did what and when or how it all tied back to the player character. After completing the game I watched the other endings on Youtube but that didn't help me either. As for the puzzles they were mostly alright. I really liked how the game lets you explicitly know when you are done in with some objects. Also there is no dead man walking syndrome which is always a bonus. I'll admit that I had to consult a walkthrough couple of times because I couldnt understand the adventure game moon logic for some of the puzzles. I really liked the different death screens and the amusing writing that came with those. But the game really should autoload the last autosave when you die instead of booting you back to the title screen. That would help keep up the immersion more and also it wouldn't waste the players valuable time. It also good how you can visit the graves section to look at them again. The graves section overall is really nicely done, It's way better than some boring list of different death screens. The other thing that was kinda dissapointing coming off Lilys Well was the lack of unlockable costumes. In Lilys Well you unlocked the costumes organically throught the gameplay and you could try them on during your first playthrough. In Lost Cartridge however I finished the game before It gave me another costume literally before the end credits. Overall the game couldn't hook me and for this and all the other reasons I can't recommend this game, atleast not for 6€.
