interesting and fresh concept but the more you play it, the more tedious it feels

LOOP HERO is a lovely retro autobattler-management RPG, where your character walks around on a randomly generated circular path and autobattles enemies spawning in. While this doesn't sound exciting - well, if you die, it's game over so it should be - the card system should. You see, this is a ROUGELITE with a CARD SYSTEM. Every enemy killed or location visited grants you one or multiple of the following randomly: A) A location card. B) Equipment to become stronger in battle. C) A resource. Location cards are used to enrich the world: place forests, meadows, even farms and graveyards where people may appear. From these locations the hero gets some sort of bonus (or rarely malus) for the current run, but more importantly it may create interactions such as spawning in new enemies, becoming a healing spot, and so on. The interesting part is that LOCATIONS COMBINE, meaning for example a farm might give you a quest (spawning in a stronger enemy somewhere) but a battlefield card placed next to it may turn it into a raided farm that does something else entirely. Stones give you some max HP, rocks give you even more max HP, but create a 3x3 grid of stones and rocks in any combation and it turns into a mountain! The location cards have lots of secret combations that the game will never tell you in any way, so go ahead and experiment! Equipment / loot is just that. What's interesting is that with each loop on the path, stronger enemies spawn in so you need to keep your gear up to date. There will be different classes to play (don't worry if you don't find where to select it from the start!) who can use different equipment slots and combat mechanics, and while all of it automated your choices outside of combat regarding where to place which location card and what equipment combo to use is the main gameplay that never fails to entertain or be anything less than tense. Resources can be spent on base building, that will further provide you with bonus stats and open up new location cards that can be used during exploration, or even reward you with completely new classes. Here, the game is sadly quite greedy and grindy, so I'll help you a little: be sure to build the Alcemist as soon as you can, so you can convert any resource to any other (with a not so user friendly ratio). Every gameplay loop ends with either your death or one of the three bosses spawning that you may kill. Each boss killed 3 times will give you the end of the game: a total of 9 victories. You may do more by replaying Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 anytime, because unlocking a new chapter also unlocks a new difficult level for every Chapter, giving enemies more abilities, and you more rewards and better drop rates. That's about it! I was not able to kill the 3rd boss more than once and grew tired of the game after 21 hours (I did build everything), but it was definitely a lot of fun for most of the playtime. I would not pay more than 4,99 for it through.

Игра способна из вас сделать наркомана, который будет постоянно говорить: "Ещё одна экспедиция и я спать! Вот точно последняя!"... Ну а если без шуток, то игра отличная
😵💫 Loop Hero is a unique and well crafted roguelike full of addictive gameplay and progression. The gameplay "loop" is basically going out on an expedition with 3 heroes to chose from, running around in a looping road. Then the player has his deck/cards to place them anywhere on the tiles around the map, that will spawn more enemies, buffs, debuffs and materials with a dayli timer. You can also find hidden combos with the cards, 2 cards placed next to each other can transform into a new card with its changes or upgrades. Pretty cool system! And with the auto battler combat, the player has a cool rpg system of leveling up, finding gear with stats and trying to survive and beat the boss spawning later on. Then after each death, retreat or success of each expedition, the player goes back to his camp and has a whole village to build and progress through with all the collected materials gained from each loop. This is where the addiction sets in with buildings giving the player new cards, passive stats and abilities and more for each run. Game starts out with a higher difficulty and not holding the players hand, but with both learning from the game and progression, you can easily beat the 1-4 chapters the game has to offer, by just making your heroes stronger and giving them more aid. This is truly something unique and a mix of a roguelike, Auto-battler, RPG, deckbuilding, little Darkest Dungeon theme and with a kick ass soundtrack to bout. Dont miss out on this special game, i had a blast 100% this game for a week straight! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3729192906
If you are tired of RPGs where you control every little move, Loop Hero might be a nice surprise. You don't actually control the hero at all. He just walks around a looping path on his own, fights whatever is in front of him, and picks up stuff. Your job is to build the world around him. You get cards after each fight, and you place those cards right onto the path to add new tiles like mountains, meadows, graveyards etc. These tiles change everything. Some give your hero passive bonuses, but most spawn new enemies. More enemies mean better loot, but too many will get your hero killed pretty fast. The whole game is about balancing risk and reward. If you make the loop too easy, you won’t get good gear. If you make it too hard, your hero dies and you lose most of the stuff you gathered. Luckily, even a failed run gives you a few resources to take back to your camp. The camp is where you build permanent upgrades, like a smithy or a new class. This means every death still helps you get stronger for the next try, which takes the edge off losing. The biggest downside is the slow start. You’ll replay the early loops many times before unlocking enough cards and camp upgrades to see real variety, it gets grindy. Also, bad luck with gear drops can ruin a perfect plan. TLDR; Loop Hero is great for people who like planning and watching it play out automatically. It’s not for those who need fast action.
Pros:
- Fresh concept - Risk vs. reward balance feels satisfying - Interesting rogue-like mechanics - Great for players who like planning and strategic thinking - Fantastic soundtrack - Retro oldschool artstyle
Cons:
- Very slow start - Grindy progression - Luck dependent
Overall rating: 8,5/10
Love, love this game. I wish they would make a sequel. I have 100% on xbox, the game is not "broken" or unplayable. Far from it! It's very, very grindy, not super clear on objectives, and difficult at times. I love the grind though, the story was interesting, the system itself is super cool. It felt really rewarding to finally beat it 100%. If you like to take your time and enjoy an interesting game, Devolver delivers again. <3
Not a very good game. Gameplay loop is terrible. You just sit and watch the guy walk in a circle and auto-attack enemies. All you can influence is change equipment that only boost stats. It is always a battle between stats. There's nothing interesting in that. As the game progresses, you are forced to add more things to make the run more dangerous (for some reason) with the only rewards being random loots. You are playing a dungeon master while at the same time you have a say about the hero's equipment. This makes no sense. This gameplay doesn't feel good. You want the run to be easy, but you just can't stop yourself from adding more obstacles into the hero's path. It should be the other way around. It should start with a set map and you have the influence to make the map easier not harder! Aren't you supposed on the same as side as the protag??? Story is generic. World is erased. Hero needs to go rescue the world but he can only remember a little bit of the world at the time and restoring it. But the loop itself doesn't make sense. Why is he walking in circles and fighting endless monsters that someone keep spawning in? Why does the main bad guy comes and attack him when some time has passed? The builds are hard to do properly as stats between equipment are quite drastic between levels. This means that level mean everything rather than the type of equipment or its trait (if you can even call it that because these abilities are all passives not active). You gain some resources as you die or run away to camp but the progress to build anything is ridiculously slow. It is made like a mobile game made to artificially increase the playtime rather than having actual gameplay. Also this is definitely not an idle game as you can't ignore it. you have to pay attention to it all the time or else you lose a massive health and then ruin your run immediately. Overall, a really tedious game to play, not fun and a ton of grind and not very creative as there are a ton of auto-battler on phones already and this one doesn't do any better.
Очень затягивающий рогали когда хочется просто чего-то не особо сложного. Прошел его на 100% и не жалею ни одной потраченной минуты на это творение. Очень жаль что разработчики не стали развивать проект дальше
