Look Outside is an incredible game. A true work of passion. So much so I felt compelled to give a more series review rather than the one word "this is good" I'd usually give a game. I'm not much of a writer, but I felt like I owed the extremely small team the effort. Mechanically, it's a solid JRPG that is light on depth. I usually bounce off such games due to annoying systems, random encounters, and overly long combat. Look Outside's battles are fast, lethal, and have real stakes to them. Character building mechanics are all but absent, which is nice for a game like this. Learning a complex RPG system here would detract from the experience. All this said, Look Outside's true strengths have nothing to do with the gameplay. The real strength is the premise and writing. Look Outside is one of the best pieces of horror fiction I've come across. It leverages the strengths of video games as a medium by empowering player agency in ways few games do. Look Outside has an impressive amount of reactivity to player choice. Avoiding binary choices or "good" and "bad" choices, the way that the player solves problems, interacts with characters, and explores the world make tangible impacts on a given playthrough. The writer demonstrate an incredible understanding of the cosmic horror genre and horror writing in general. The game is filled with tense and dreadful atmosphere while taking care to inject enough fun, hope, and humor as to not inure the player to the horrors of the world. The more Lovecraftian elements of the story are handled with grace that few other properities possess. Stories of this sort are often ruined with villians and monster that have malicious motives, "scary" voices, and other cartoon villian attributes that undercut the existential dread that the genre is trying to evoke. Not so here! The particular ending that I earned my first playthrough has stuck with me since. Endings are so hard to nail, but from what I've seen and experienced, Look Outside absolutely does so. The art in the game is also immpecable. The enemy designs are truly top-notch. It's hard to not want to fight everything you can, simply to see what they look like. Even those resources are scarce, I found myself intentionally fighting everything just to see what kind of monsters the various locations of this game hold. I could go on and on but I'll spare any poor saps who happen upon this review further rambling. If you're a fan of the works of HP. Lovecraft or Junji Ito, like I am, this game is absolutely made for you.

非常好玩的一款独立游戏，推荐给喜欢RPG和血肉克苏鲁风格的朋友们，美术在我看来是这款游戏最出众的地方，作者笔下的人物有种非常诡异的美感，加上游戏中的昏暗环境，让人感到恐怖的同时又让人忍不住多细看上几眼；音乐方面也十分出色，在氛围的烘托上十分到位，在一些关键的剧情节点上，音乐响起的时候我甚至会起鸡皮疙瘩；整体游戏的流程不算很长，但是也描绘了在这样一个疯狂异变的环境下带有些许温情的故事（？）故事也很完整，有多种不同的结局，打出某些结局的那一刻一定会被震撼和感动到。总之十分推荐！

Very rarely, a game is made that shows such a unique take on what I thought was already a well developed genre. I am a massive fan of Horror and RPG games; When I was younger I was obsessed with the RPG horror classics like Ib, Mad Father, and The Witch's House. This game, however, shows a brilliance in every Idea, Sprite, Track, and Scare you encounter. Body horror has lost a lot of it's effect on me, but this game showed me there is still plenty fear to be squeezed out of me. I played this game with a friend who had already beaten it, and upon asking them, I realized how different every playthrough can actually be. This is a game that is worth playing more than once, with over Ten endings, Lots of missable events and dialogue, and some secrets that are so deeply buried that it will take some real smart thinking and RPG battle finesse to uncover. I was shocked to find that I actually missed a BUNCH of companions, some of which were truly right under my nose! If you enjoy the kind of horror that sinks it's teeth into you, instead of screams in your face, PLEASE play this game, even if you aren't a very big fan of Turn-Based combat I promise this game has a lot for you! Play it with an open mind and scrutiny, there are layers to uncover, and you are stronger than you realize.
