Locked in my Darkness, developed by Blusagi Team and published by indie.io, is a short-form psychological horror experience that builds its impact through atmosphere, disorientation, and a tightly controlled sense of pacing. Rather than presenting itself as a traditional survival horror game filled with mechanics and systems, it focuses almost entirely on immersion, placing players in a confined environment that slowly transforms into something increasingly unnatural. The result is a compact but intense journey that relies on mood and perception more than interaction. The game begins with a deliberately vague setup, offering little context beyond the player’s immediate surroundings. You find yourself inside a quiet, dimly lit apartment complex, and from the first moments, there is a persistent sense that something is not quite right. Progression is driven by exploration, moving from room to room while interacting with objects that trigger subtle changes in the environment. There are no explicit objectives guiding the player, which reinforces the feeling of being lost within an unfamiliar space. Instead of clear direction, the game encourages observation and experimentation, allowing players to piece together how to move forward through small environmental cues. Gameplay remains minimal throughout. Interaction is limited to examining objects, unlocking doors, and activating scripted events that advance the experience. There is no combat, and the game avoids introducing complex puzzle mechanics, keeping the focus on atmosphere and narrative suggestion. While this simplicity helps maintain immersion, it also means that the gameplay loop can feel repetitive over time. The lack of variety in interactions may leave some players wanting more depth, especially if they are accustomed to more mechanically driven horror titles. Where the game truly succeeds is in its atmosphere. The apartment setting evolves gradually, shifting from a grounded, realistic space into something far more surreal and unsettling. Hallways distort, rooms change unexpectedly, and the environment begins to feel unstable, as though it is reacting to the player’s presence. Darkness plays a central role, not just as a visual element but as a psychological tool that heightens tension and uncertainty. The game uses this transformation effectively, creating a steady escalation of unease rather than relying solely on sudden shocks. Sound design is equally important in maintaining this tension. Ambient noises, distant echoes, and subtle audio cues create the impression that something is always nearby, even when nothing is visible. The use of silence is just as deliberate, allowing quiet moments to build anticipation before being interrupted by more direct scares. While jump scares are present, they are used sparingly and are integrated into the overall atmosphere rather than dominating the experience. The narrative is intentionally fragmented, offering only hints of a larger story. Players uncover pieces of information through environmental details and scattered clues, but the game never fully explains what is happening. This ambiguity aligns with its psychological focus, leaving much of the interpretation up to the player. For some, this open-ended approach adds depth and encourages reflection; for others, it may feel underdeveloped, lacking the clarity needed to create a strong narrative payoff. One of the most defining aspects of Locked in my Darkness is its brevity. The entire experience can be completed in under an hour, and it is clearly designed to be played in a single sitting. This short runtime works in its favor by maintaining a consistent level of tension and preventing the concept from becoming repetitive. However, it also limits the scope of the game, leaving little room for its ideas to expand or evolve. Once completed, there is minimal replay value, as the experience remains largely the same on subsequent playthroughs. Despite its limitations, the game manages to leave a lasting impression through its focused design and effective use of atmosphere. It understands its strengths and builds around them, delivering a concise horror experience that prioritizes mood over complexity. While it may not appeal to players looking for deep mechanics or extended gameplay, it succeeds in creating a memorable sense of unease within a short timeframe. Ultimately, Locked in my Darkness is best viewed as a horror vignette rather than a full-length game. It offers a brief but immersive journey into a shifting, oppressive environment, relying on subtlety and psychological tension to engage the player. For those who appreciate minimalist horror experiences and are willing to embrace its limited scope, it provides a compelling and unsettling experience. For others, its simplicity and short duration may leave it feeling incomplete. Rating: 7/10
I loved the intro menu screen. Perhaps that should be the game.
Come on, das geht doch besser! Aber leider nicht hier. Da hab ich mit ner Koffeintablette mehr Spaß. Over and out.
I got this game on Fanatical in a bundle for less than £1 and I still feel I paid too much for it... There is no real substance or story to the game and the puzzles can be solved by a child. If you check my reviews you will see I do normally give these type of cheap indie horror games a positive review but this game was a total let down and should be skipped for something better
https://youtu.be/QWzZC7ScDmU Waling up and down the same streets fails to build any tension or setup any real horror elements.
.. a taka sobie...
