This a great, weird NES game. As is stated this is a NES game developed in recent years - I have NES cartridge! It comes with a rom to play in your favorite emulator. The steam game (which I think is the DOS version!) Has some quality of life features like autosaving your last save and an extended options menu. The overall flow is platforming and exploring the map and getting new lizard suits. The movement is floaty and does add to some difficulty, but once you are used to it feels at home in the game. In true esoteric NES game fashion READ THE MANUAL! There is a lot of info that isn't conveyed like a modern game, so this is a must. This will show you a blurb of each lizard and other helpful info including a big picture map. Do like old NES platformers that are a little floaty? Do you like to explore a lot? Then pick this up.
The 8-bit feelings are strong in this game. Originally developed for Nintendo systems,Lizard has now been realized for Steam too. You have to be familiar with NES-SNES platform games if you want to fully appreciate this game ,otherwise you will lose yourself in a labyrinth of tunnels, stages, floors and enigmas and you'll risk also to miss lots of secrets and hidden "rooms". I would like to thank the devs for gifting me this game. It is not available for everybody yet,you will have to wait for it until March 5th. If 80s-90s platform games can awake your inner soul,be sure not to miss Lizard.
A genuine retro game that runs on real hardware. I put in a few different play sessions on PC, and found it quite challenging and so didn't manage to get very far in the game. I liked being able to restart at checkpoints. This is the 2nd NES game that I've ever played, and so I felt like my skills were lacking compared to newer platformers that might be considered easier from the get-go. I agree with other reviewers that this game is true to the spirit of the time of the NES.
This is one of the most interesting games I've played recently. Stunning world and level design, great graphics and atmosphere. Controls take a while to get used to but movement becomes very smooth and intuitive after a while. Awesome soundtrack too.
This is a fascinating, often bewildering, sometimes frustrating game because it provides very little to no guidance on what to do or where to go. (The manual does help a bit, because you at least know what to look for and there are some very basic maps.) However, if you have patience, and a lot of time to commit to playing through this, it is a richly rewarding experience, recalling the challenges of old games like Legacy of the Wizard that seem impenetrable at first, but slowly reveal themselves to you. It has some amazing boss fights, great music, and many surprises. Give this one a chance and if you feel like you aren't making any progress, stick with it.
I'm not to knowledgeable of how big old NES games were but Lizard feels absolutely gigantic with two giant maps to explore from the start and hold the knowledge of major details in your head through out (or...you could use a guide and look at the full map on Game Atlas) There's momentum based movement so don't be surprised if you're overshooting your landing points all the time when you intially begin. In hindsight I should have played on the NES rom version included in this pack and abused save states through out, because nothing you've done since last touching a checkpoint is being remembered. Even more brutal was when I had to do the autoscroller section before the surf boss IN FULL every time I died to them. Fairly brutal, but Stockholm Syndrome eventually set in and I learned to appreciate the game's no-nonsense brutal approach.
Game has so many secrets...no way you´ll be able to find them all on your first playthrough. 10+hrs to beat the game and collect all coins easy!
