I had a good time with this game and hope more people who enjoy this genre bump into it down the road!
A fun, cartoony, chaotic game of... whatever genre this is. It's the one where the little soldiers run from the left to the right, shooting enemies that come from the opposite direction. Kind of like Home Behind 2 or that Bad 2 Bad thing, one of those thingies! Laterally Scrolling Tactical Command? Something like that. The twist is, you're mostly managing the mobile medical clinic rather than the troops. You do choose your soldiers, develop talents for them, modify them with cybernetics and genetic traits, but during actual gameplay, your main priority is to analyze and dissect the corpses of strange invaders killed in battle by your troops. This allows you to level up your command vehicle, increase the energy capacity of your support abilities (like shooting explodey things at the enemy) and obtain a variety of perks, some of which you can then carry on to the following battles in your current expedition. Critically, you can also surgically restore the health of injured or near-death soldiers after either ordering them to retreat, or waiting for them to be incapacitated and picked up by your medics. They may then either be allowed to recover fully, or sent back out immediately with additional risk to their survival (which might be mitigated or exacerbated by certain traits). Between healing and dissecting, your doctor will be busy... There are further upgrades you can unlock at your base, such as additional devices for your command vehicle (which can be then also upgraded temporarily during each battle, using energy) as well as new cybernetics for your soldiers. All in all, a neat, reasonably priced little indie game with a decent amount of things to explore and experiment with. I did find that some of your options appear to be dramatically more viable than others, but this tends to be the way with any game that offers any significant variety of choices to the player. Quite recommended as a fun, messy, slightly horrific video game squad-support warfare foray. Addendum: Not for the squeamish.

Live Hard, Die Hard, developed and published by Asobism.Co.,Ltd, is an ambitious hybrid strategy experience that fuses real-time tactical combat with layered squad management and unconventional resource systems. Set in a near-future Earth under siege by alien forces, the game casts players as the commander of an elite resistance unit tasked with holding the line against escalating extraterrestrial threats. Rather than focusing solely on battlefield tactics or base construction, it intertwines both into a tightly connected gameplay loop that constantly forces difficult decisions under pressure. At its core, the game operates on a cyclical structure divided between preparation phases and combat deployments. During downtime at the base, players allocate resources, manage wounded soldiers, research alien technologies, and upgrade facilities. This phase is not simply a passive upgrade screen—it directly influences survival during missions. Choosing which technologies to prioritize, which soldiers to enhance, and how to distribute limited supplies has long-term consequences that echo across subsequent operations. The sense of escalation builds steadily, with each passing week intensifying both the alien threat and the strategic demands placed on the player. Combat unfolds in real time, but it does not rely on traditional micromanagement-heavy RTS mechanics. Units engage automatically once deployed, and the player’s role centers on issuing high-level directives such as activating special abilities, calling reinforcements, or ordering tactical retreats. This design strikes a balance between automation and agency. Players must monitor battlefield flow carefully, responding to shifting enemy waves and protecting vulnerable units without being overwhelmed by excessive command inputs. Timing becomes critical—delaying a retreat to secure more alien remains may result in casualties, while withdrawing too early sacrifices potential gains. One of the game’s most distinctive mechanics revolves around alien corpses as a strategic resource. Defeated enemies are not simply cleared from the field; they can be harvested and dissected to unlock “Side Effects,” powerful bonuses that enhance soldiers or provide research breakthroughs. This creates a constant tension between medical evacuation and scientific exploitation. Sending injured troops back for treatment preserves morale and long-term stability, but prioritizing alien analysis can accelerate technological advancement. This duality injects moral and tactical complexity into every skirmish, forcing players to weigh immediate survival against long-term advantage. The medical and morale systems add further depth. Injured soldiers require treatment, and extended exposure to combat stress can impact performance. Recognizing valor, rewarding achievements, and maintaining morale are not cosmetic features—they influence effectiveness and unit stability. This layered approach ensures that personnel management is as important as combat success. Soldiers evolve over time through Body Mods, skill branches, and genetic enhancements, allowing for specialized builds tailored to different combat scenarios. Visually and tonally, Live Hard, Die Hard balances a somewhat playful aesthetic with the grim stakes of alien invasion. The interface is dense but functional, reflecting the game’s complexity. Battles can feel chaotic, especially in later stages where enemy waves intensify, but this sense of controlled disorder aligns with the game’s central theme of desperate resistance. The pacing remains brisk, with constant transitions between strategic planning and immediate tactical response. While the learning curve can initially feel steep due to the intertwining systems and layered mechanics, mastery reveals a deeply satisfying strategy loop. The challenge lies not only in surviving individual missions but in building a sustainable long-term defense capable of eventually confronting the alien stronghold itself. Every upgrade, research decision, and battlefield call contributes to a gradual sense of progression toward that ultimate objective. Ultimately, Live Hard, Die Hard stands out for its willingness to blend genres and experiment with unconventional systems. It is neither a pure RTS nor a simple management simulator, but rather a fusion of real-time combat, squad customization, medical logistics, and alien research strategy. For players who appreciate dense mechanics, constant decision-making, and high-pressure tactical environments, it offers a distinctive and rewarding experience that thrives on complexity and calculated risk.
