Been there, done that...

Liminal Border: Part I
I'm changing it to a negative one because of the ban I got for one removed screenshot which obviously didn't break any steam rules but the support claims devs may have their own O_O welp, thank you very much for a ten days ban on the whole platform for the rules I'm not even aware of! So considerate to your players! Maybe some warning ahead would be nice and a chance to delete the content you don't approve! A rare case when the story turned out to be so much better than I expected (^^)b Before buying it I saw some 'revealing' screenshots, so I thought I'd get some shallow lighthearted fun but the plot is surprisingly captivating & deep enough. Scanning through the reviews I noticed complaints that the first part is just a premise, so I was reluctant to spend so much money just for the introduction of the story. But nope, I believe there's more than enough decent intriguing content to feel both satisfied and willing to buy the next part. Praises: +Visuals are gorgeous, CGs especially. +Stand gallery is an amazing feature. I spent some time choosing the backgrounds & expressions of my fav chars :) That was fun! <3 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3412978039 +chibi CGs are always adorable(。♥‿♥。), llove it when they add them to the games. +All the characters are so appealing! Even negative ones stir all the right emotions. I like that vivid presentation. +free adult patch +I'm seriously intrigued how the story is gonna proceed from now on. I can't wait to start the next part. For me everything was very balanced: ideal amount of excitement, trouble, sex, violence, hope... https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3415099816 Complaints: --I'm not a fan of such feature when the gallery is accessible only at the end of the story, I prefer seeing the progress by the number of unlocked screenshots, why do I need all that visual avalanche at the very end, weird decision O_o --Just the fourth part of the story :( So it'd be really pricey as a whole, plus some excitement will inevitably fade away when it's fully released. For example, the third part is expected on August, 9. The concrete date is appreciated but it'll be not so soon as I hoped T_T --I'm grateful for the patch but it's still annoying to download it from their site. I always worry that I'll do smth wrong with all that installation alchemy. Plus even with that patch we still get blurry images (-^ლ) --I couldn't make proper ss :( F12 worked only with the text box on and even then for whatever reason there was a notification 'Access steam features...” at the bottom O_o O again I had to recollect which programs I need to upload the ss. Extra trouble, extra annoyance :( --there was just one choice which didn't influence anything, so why?! O_o --some typos https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3417143083 As it's just the beginning of the story I'd recommend to buy it during some sales. They often have discounts, luckily. 别买part3和4就行,part1的阳菜还行
总分:9/10分
由于是gal,所以不进行详细的优点缺点评测,part1写的阳菜让我非常喜欢,part3/4均为屎,请谨慎购买!!
I love Purple software's games, but dear LORD was this one fresh. First you have the writer of 9-nine, which I am a huge fan of, and a very talented doujinshi artist named Same Manma...she makes some hot stuff. It seems like Purple software created the dream team to make an amazing, engaging plot about the struggles and teething problems Itsuki and Hina have with the "digital drug." It's a complicated story about the dealings of the underworld and man is it entertaining. The H-scenes I will say are some of the hottest out there, I was flipping my ♥♥♥♥ at every single one. I'm already a COQ connoisseur (Huge fan of purple H) and this was a new and fresh experience that got me addicted, basically. The characters are great, story is awesome and unique, I really couldn't ask for more and I'm beyond hype to read 2nd Offence.
Liminal Border Part I is a richly atmospheric visual novel from Purple Software, localized and published by Shiravune, and it immediately establishes itself as a slow-burning mystery rooted in psychological nuance, emotional tension, and carefully layered worldbuilding. Rather than overwhelming the player with exposition, it invites them into a world defined by unease—one where borders, both literal and symbolic, shape identity, conflict, and human connection. The story follows characters who exist at the perimeter of society, ideology, or memory, each negotiating personal histories and unresolved trauma while confronting forces larger than themselves. The writing excels in its ability to balance clarity and ambiguity, gradually unfolding the truth without sacrificing suspense, and giving players time to invest emotionally before revealing deeper threads. Character development is one of the narrative’s strongest pillars. Every major figure introduced feels intentionally crafted rather than included to fill archetypal space. Their motivations evolve, their relationships shift, and their vulnerabilities are expressed not through dramatic monologues but through subtle gestures, reframed conversations, and environmental storytelling. Purple Software has always excelled at humanizing characters even within heightened or speculative settings, and Liminal Border continues that tradition—no one here is merely a plot device. The protagonist, in particular, functions not as a blank slate but as someone shaped by internal conflict, doubt, and memory, making their perspective compelling to follow. Supporting characters act as mirrors, challengers, and emotional anchors, giving every major interaction narrative weight. The writing style itself is deliberate, textured, and cinematic. Dialogue carries personality and rhythm, never feeling rushed or artificially inflated. Internal monologues reveal emotional and philosophical depth without becoming self-indulgent. The pacing is intentionally measured, allowing tension to simmer instead of spike, while major turning points land with controlled force. Tonally, the story moves between mystery, melancholy, warmth, and anticipation, creating a layered emotional experience that resists easy categorization. While the game does contain moments of levity, they function as relief rather than tonal derailment, reinforcing stakes rather than diminishing them. Visually, Liminal Border Part I is striking. Purple Software’s artistry is on full display—backgrounds are richly detailed, lighting is purposeful, and character sprites are expressive, distinct, and aesthetically polished. The blend of realism and stylization deepens immersion, giving every scene atmosphere and emotional intention. CG illustrations punctuate narrative peaks, offering haunting, beautiful, or intimate compositions that reinforce the story’s themes. Environmental design also plays a storytelling role, with visual motifs and framing subtly foreshadowing psychological and narrative shifts. The result is a visual novel that feels less like static illustration and more like a curated cinematic experience. Music plays a crucial supporting role, shaping mood without overpowering the narrative. The soundtrack ranges from quiet ambient pieces designed to accompany introspection to tense, escalating compositions that heighten critical scenes. Tracks are chosen thoughtfully, transitioning seamlessly with emotional beats rather than simply filling silence. Sound effects and voice acting—where applicable—are cleanly mixed and contribute to immersion, grounding conversations in believable pacing and emotional resonance. Localization deserves particular praise; Shiravune’s translation captures tone, cultural nuance, and character voice while maintaining clarity and rhythm, avoiding the stiffness or over-literalism that sometimes affects visual novel releases. Structurally, the biggest defining feature of Liminal Border Part I is that it is the first installment of a larger narrative. As such, it builds foundation rather than closure, spending its runtime establishing relationships, conflicts, secrets, and thematic direction. This leads to a conclusion that functions as a narrative pivot rather than a resolution—satisfying in its escalation but undeniably incomplete. For some players, this format deepens anticipation and focus; for others, it may feel like stopping just as the story fully blooms. Because the game’s emotional and narrative investment grows steadily, the cliffhanger effect is potent and intentional, clearly designed to frame the upcoming continuation rather than wrap neatly on its own. Its limitations mirror its ambitions. The pacing, while deliberate and thoughtful, may feel slow for players expecting rapid plot advancement or immediate spectacle. Thematically dense scenes require attention and patience, making this a visual novel best enjoyed without rushing. Some mysteries remain intentionally opaque, and Part I does not answer every question it raises—something that will only fully resolve with future entries. Those seeking high interactivity, branching decision-based outcomes, or gameplay sections beyond traditional visual novel structure will find it linear and text-focused. But within its genre expectations, it functions with remarkable confidence and clarity of purpose. Liminal Border Part I succeeds because it trusts its audience. It assumes players want emotional depth, thoughtful storytelling, and space to reflect rather than constant stimulation. It blends mystery, humanity, and atmosphere with composure, offering a story that lingers even after stepping away from the screen. Fans of slow-burn narrative fiction, psychological drama, elegant character writing, and visually expressive storytelling will find a compelling and rewarding experience—one that feels like the beginning of something significant rather than a standalone curiosity. As a first chapter, it not only tells a compelling story but promises an even more expansive and emotionally resonant continuation. It leaves players eager, anxious, and deeply invested—exactly what serialized storytelling should accomplish. Rating: 8/10
