About
Lift/Shift is a horror puzzle game where you play as a research operative of a secret institution investigating a mysterious, ever-changing apartment. Armed with a specialized camera, you must document the transformations of objects across multiple floors of an anomalous building.
Be careful: any object can shift between realities, and making correct photos is the only way to stabilize the environment. Make mistakes, and you risk destabilizing not just the apartment, but potentially the entire fabric of reality.

There are some Steam games out there with liminal spaces. Often the objective is to escape (avoid) a monster but then there is a category where we have to look for anomalies. Essentially, you look for changes in your surrounding area and whenever you see different objects (or difference in their characteristics) you have to turn back. What Lift/Shift does differently is that it wants you to take photos of 3 anomalies. You can make a mistake twice - in that case the floor is considered a failure. First you just observe the entryway and the two rooms available. Then you go back to the elevator and press the button. The next 5 floors will be considered your experiment and given the number of mistakes you make you can have 3 different endings. In a way, it's easy to spot the anomalies. You look for patterns in carpets, a number on a calendar, colours of objects and how they are positioned. Floor number 4 and 5 will be upside down completely to make the game more challenging. Now, the state of the objects is always randomised on floor number 1 so when you start a new game you again have to carefully examine everything. I had fun with this game! Software in this genre generally look better (no options to change graphics) but this is an indie game and I think it does its job well. And also, it is completely free so what can go wrong?
