amazing story! mood is immactulate, felt like i was alone in japan after a nuclear warfare... sometimes you get stuck at puzzles and gotta use some actual brainpower (not for the weak) !! could be a little longer (and thats a good thing, because i enioyed my 20 minutes!!!)
For me it was a very 'okay' horror game, probably not worth $6 though, I felt like the visual effects got a lot better toward the end, and I wish you had that quality the entire way, where I feel like the first 2 areas were less interesting to explore, just not having enough detail in the environment. The game is about 30-40 minutes, and honestly half of it was due to tiny hotspots on the items, or just having a hard time finding things because of the darkness. If I may give a bit of a suggestion, there are a lot of cheap horror games on steam that overuse darkness in the environment that is otherwise not very interesting to explore, and that is the vibe I got in the first house, just a few solid rooms without much detail, mostly one type of texture, it just feels cheap and makes a bad first impression, especially when you just constantly clicking on the same objects. What makes the environment in horror games fun for me to explore is the detail and character you add to location, and I think that third area looks a lot better, there is more color, there are more things that grab your attention, and you don't feel like I am in this plain 3D environment. Overall I think the second and the third locations don't look bad, but I would recommend adding a bit more contrast, focus more on texture and lights, just because it's a horror game it does not need bad visibility, when devs have this mentality where you can barely see **** to me it's a red flag. There are actually some cool effects in this game, I liked the moving rooms, and the meat monsters were actually nicely animated, but you need to give a bit of love to all parts of the game, instead of me feeling like some parts looked a lot better than others. It's a relatively simple experience, and the game does not provide a ton of context for what it means in the end, you kinda have to put it together from what you gather from the puzzles. Most of the game takes place in 3 different houses, and to be fair, there were a couple of cool effects. The puzzles were not difficult, outside of having a few bad hotspots, you might have to double check the drawers and such, it's easy to miss things in this game.
Pros:
(+) I think the visual effects got better toward the end, the game felt a bit cheap and without character at first, but I thought the last location had more interesting elements going for it, I just wish the entire game was like that. I thought the meat demons were nicely made as well. The overall lights and texture was not great, but I also felt the third location got better in that regard, I still think you need to put more work in contrasting and adding more things that grab your attention.
Feedback:
- next time try making the objects and hotspots a bit bigger, I felt like I had to constantly click on everything in this game, even missing objects right in front of me - like a lot of horror games on steam you doing this thing where you focus a bit too much on the darkness, just because it's a horror game, does not mean it's fun to explore poorly visible environment, like in the third location, I like the game more when it has more detail in the environment, or perhaps some interesting theme for a location (for example you had a music theme in the last area which was better) Also I think you need to play with the lights a bit more, more contrast, for example that shading you had going at the fire, I think that looked better, maybe place more light sources like that around, contrast the object and shadows more. - I didn't feel like I got much closure with the experience, I can kinda guess what happened based on the puzzles, but overall I think you need to have a more satisfying ending for your games Overall Thoughts: 6/10 There were a few nice visual elements specifically with the jumpscares, but you should focus more on making the environment more interesting, and perhaps improve on the light effects just a little bit so it does not feel like you can't see much, many devs use darkness to hide lack of detail instead of doing more work. Overall not a bad attempt, but didn't make a big impression, needs a little bit more love, focus more on individual locations and detail, don't make me feel like the game has sporadic moments of good quality, there were some nice ideas there, but it wasn't consistently good. I really enjoyed this game! Although it starts off a bit slow and feels similar to other horror games at first, it gets better with every house you explore, building up to a pretty creepy atmosphere. Starting with the street you walk on, you feel like you’re alone in the light, but not truly alone. The art style adds a lot to the immersion, and the jump scares are well-timed (one even caught me off guard the second time I played!). I did encounter some performance issues, as the game stuttered a few times, but apart from that, it was fine. Overall, I highly recommend it! I'm giving this a thumbs down simply because I think the reviews are too positive. I'd give it a thumbs up because of the atmosphere, price, and graphics, but I don't know if I'd actually say it's good. So I'm giving it a thumbs down just to get an opposing perspective out there. It's not really a game. You can't die. There's no fail state. It's just a short, basic puzzler with jumpscares. For me, a lot of the horror/tension went right out the window when I realized I could not fail and the "threat" was nonexistent. You can beat it in like an hour. Maybe a bit longer if you get stuck on one of the puzzles. Kind of disappointing, but there's something good here. The graphical style is excellent, but it can sometimes make it difficult to see tiny objects in the world. If you like horror games, $5 isn't too bad to experience it. If what I've said so far doesn't scare you off, it might be worth it. I want to see someone make a full-on survival horror game with this perspective and graphical style.
This game has awesome visuals and vibes that are incredibly reminiscent of the original Silent Hill games. The game also really reminded me of an actual amusement park attraction that I saw when I visited Japan which was wonderful! The puzzles were nothing crazy but they were still very fun. The only minor complaint I had was that some items were somewhat hard to see as a result of the very retro art style. The game is really short but for the price I paid - four Canadian dollars - I can highly recommend this game.
My review on this is rather mixed, but I'm leaning slightly towards not positive just for a couple reasons. I can respect a short indie horror game, especially since it's not uncommon for games in this field to overstay their welcome and lose the scare factor, or miss the scares altogether. Just be aware this game is quite short. For $6.49 CAD, the entry price isn't that bad, so feel to explore The visual horror is phenomenal. Both the isolation of empty streets and homes, as well as fleshy, disgusting meat sections later. It is unnerving, to say the least. However, there is a big issue that accompanies the horror, that makes it falter. There is no real enemy. No lose condition. No way to die. You walk around, and get jumpscared, and then keep going. For me, the lack of fail condition dampened the tension, but the visuals still hold strong throughout Otherwise, the basic gameplay is just walking, looking for items, and using them in the proper spot. I guess you could think of it like a horror escape room? Neat idea in concept, however keep in mind that you can blow through the game's entire catalogue of puzzles in a crisp twenty minutes. Not a bad thing, just something to be aware of I hate to be negative, as game development is no easy feat and its something to be proud of, but I just can't understand how this one got so many positive reviews. I hope the dev doesn't take this to heart, and continues to make things. And please, if you think there is something here, then buy it and make your own judgements. I think the visuals alone can carry you through the game, if you're into that Note: The dev reached out to me and we had a great talk about games! They're really cool so you should still support them haha
It was a fine horror experience ngl
Interesting, Short story but couple jumpscares got me personally when i was not expecting. also try to unlock all doors before continuing or you will get stuck unable to finish the game like me. 8/10 for short 25-30 minute game
It's real short (took around 30-40 minutes for me to finish it). Art is really cool, atmosphere is insane. Overall solid 7-8/10
short and sweet. i really enjoyed it
