Lies of P is a thrilling soulslike that takes the story of Pinocchio, turns it on its head, and sets it against the darkly elegant backdrop of the Belle Epoque era.

Close your eyes.. Come to me ♪
Another unfathomable desire watching friends get torn, tossed, shot, burnt, poisoned~~ murdered in dozens of ways on stream brokers the thought: That looks like fun, me next! And learning this game had an update to add difficulty settings, it felt safe to take the plunge whilst waiting for Beasts of Reincarnation. So where we land?
Story ~ Obey or Lie
Set in the late 1800's, or so suggests for the Belle Epoque era, we awake aboard a train. Deterred from slumber from a voice echo seeking our aid, we venture out into a station in a shuttered city thanks to the "Puppet Frenzy". An unprecedented event that reaped turmoil without rhyme or reason thanks to the Grand Covenant law; Puppets shan't harm humans. Yet, the streets are paved with corpses from both kinds. If that weren't enough, should humans be spared a violent end, they also face the real threat of the Petrification disease. From prestigious masters to plagued prey... As a puppet, meet survivors, learn their tragic tales, understand the weight of your encounters and Live or Lie through this journey to uncover the mystery that started this bloodbath. Refreshingly, unlike Souls games, the main story is all told through dialogue sequences. There's not much in the way of cutscenes out of spotlighting characters/bosses but the story beats are well absorbed as opposed to doing what you do for "reasons". Whilst there are collectibles, in the nature of souls, will build the world and the severity of what's happening around you so try not to skip out on reading them if you can. They're never more than 4 pages of short-form paragraphs albeit still expect to piece things together. Story is something I usually overlook in a Souls game, mostly because there's so many actors involved or there's an established history already that I'm not just not motivated to learn about. I'm not much of a "lore" enthusiast and Lies of P respects that. Whilst there is history and you'll learn about it naturally, the more you read into the world, the more you'll come to appreciate it. I would regard Story being rather friendly here and intriguing enough that once you roll the credits, if you weren't 100% on the plot, you'll likely want to learn more about it. It asks very little upfront from you I feel unlike more traditional games in the genre.
As close to Souls as it gets
Detailed by the community as such, Soulslike has come far from the niche it was. The market is broad, with all sorts of options to choose from: AI Limit, First Berserker Khazan (My favorite!), Lords of the Fallen, Surge, Wo Long, Wuchang, etc etc. Whilst some can be mistaken and dubbed more as a "Nioh-like", Lies of P is about as close as you can get to the Fromsoft moniker. The best comparison for gameplay style is Bloodborne; maybe for some, that's a huge W and run out to buy. The main remark for this, besides a stunning setting, is the regain-on-hit system. You'll have a window to recover health upon guarding, promoting a return-to-sender type mentality to maintain your bite in the fight. However, there's a heavier focus on parrying in LoP. Enemies are very aggressive with multi-hit combo's and as a means of stagger, you're encouraged to land your perfect guards to negate damage and break the posture for Fatal attacks for big damage. Search anywhere online and you'll learn that LoP is perhaps one of the more unrelenting parry systems out there. You're going to get your sh*t kicked in and without practice, there's gonna be more hope involved than skill so just be wary if Parry is the bane of your existence as this will test it. ..Though if that scares you, difficulty settings, should you be so inclined can help! More on that later.
Gameplay
One of the staples for this game is building your own weapon. Whilst you can't transform them, you can dismantle and assemble weapons as you see fit. Each component comes with their own fable arts and damage types (Blunt, Piercing, Slashing). Naturally, some blades work best on certain handles but hey, if you're happy to experiment and walk a path of thine own, you can tailor your gameplay style as you see fit. I personally had my sights set on the
Gunblade
from the DLC so I just stuck to Greatswords to translate well when I get there... I look forward to invoking my inner Gunbreaker! Bundled with your weapon is your mechanical arm, or Legion as they call it here. I never thought to use it until I got the option to fit the Lightning version so maybe it starts out as a mighty jab but progress through the game you'll be able to make exchanges for a variety to add further depth to your arsenal. I'm rather smitten with my flamethrower for the most part, emits the heart when I play this game sometimes. And to top it all off, if that wasn't enough, your P-Organ! Collecting Quartz in the world off difficult foes or bought in limited supply, you can bolster your heart with traits and unlock perks. With the amount of actions you have, customisation from weapons, I'm a little thankfully combo's aren't really a thing here opting for an enhancement system versus a talent tree. It all comes together really well, being customisable without being overtly complex, par the parry system imo as it invokes the "git gud" nature of your peers. But mayhap you don't want to and just want to enjoy the game a bit more leisurely! Welp, you can!
Difficulty ~ Booooooooooooo
Yeah yeah, settle down. Souls games shouldn't be approachable or accessible, and it spoils the journey that everyone shares. And to that degree, I do mirror the sentiment. A boss, challenge, encounter overcome is done so together, and the community can regale their stories of how they beat the big bad nasty 'coppa. Whether that is done handicapped, by the skin of one's teeth or leisurely gloatfully, no matter the method, it was done with a level playing field. Difficulties blur the line and takes away some of the charm that is intended for the euphoric moments bosses take a knee. And to that I say: I just don't have the patience nor determination. It makes games like these incredibly formidable and a dreadful sense of despair to even attempt, and depending who you ask, that's the greater crime. There's a great world with a unique theme here that could be more appreciated if it were more accessible. However, I personally leave that up to the developers. I will never cry for easier Souls games because I know I'm not the demographic and I'm not here to spoil the parade. Whilst I will voice my frustration and speak my stubborn ass opinion, ultimately these games aren't for me no matter the slander I choose when the clamps are just too much. Looking at you Brotherhood... ...But where it's available? Take the damn bone friend! Feel the shame by all means but it's an option for you to tailor your experience and fun factor if getting minced or double-teamed or two-shotted ain't your brew. I did fairly well on the Legendary Stalker difficulty right until
Victor
. I specter'd
King of Puppets
and it minced the poor guy. So in the interest of my own prevail, I accepted my limits, interests and begrudgingly decided (with some friend approval) to tone down the journey out of appreciation for my own enjoyment. So yes, if you're not in the market for clamped testicles or twisted nipples, you can turn the difficulty down.
Conclusion ~ A lot of colourful soul
28hrs to roll credits, dignity lost, the illusion of fun somewhere in the mix of pain, I had a good time with Lies of P. Being able to tailor your experience was a big plus for me that allowed me to cross the finish line. The tragedies woeful, the music blissful and the language colourful to suit, LoP could be a great building block if Fromsoft is unattainable out the gate, build up to it. ..Or just get friends that help endorse painful decisions.

Just finished the game, and probably the best game I have played in a while. Totally loved it and enjoyed every moment of playing.
I am not gonna lie, this is the best souls-like i have yet played. The DLC was worth it too. Smooth af combat. good music. decent lore. And of course the difficulty expected from a souls-like. It also has much replay ability. ( it has allot of weapons you can try out as well) And it is the closest thing to bloodborne that we have on PC. ''Lies of Peak'' as some call it. Truly a masterpiece and one of my favoriete games.

Jogo bão esse do piróquio! Quanto mais você mente, mais o pau cresce! Verdade ou não?
10/10
