Liberation

(Disclaimer: Played the itch.io version before; Steam version is identical). Liberation feels like a game made for the entire handful or so of those weirdos who, while everyone else was busy shooting legally distinct Wookie-Klingon hybrids in Wing Commander, spent their fondest space-blasting memories of the 1990s with DID's utterly bizarre Inferno; and this game digs quite deep into said memories with its fast arcade combat, garish vector graphics, and in-your-face soundtrack. Sure, the visuals favour green and purple over red and orange, the charming homages to Blake's 7 and other UK sci-fi classics are as far removed from Inferno's grotesque 90s comic book stylings as it gets, and instead of Alien Sex Fiend, the decidedly less British Machinae Supremacy blast out of your speakers, but the itch is being scratched one way or another.

Cool concept. Menu controls make no sense. Needs more work

I suspect that Blake, Avon, Vila, Jenna, Cally, Gan, Zen, and even Orac would enjoy this (alright, perhaps not that egotistic electronic maniac Orac)-all that's missing is the Supreme Commander, her lapdog Space Commander, and a lot of sexy Mutiods. Well done to the studio, and thanks for the top-notch memories of the good old days of British Sci-Fi. For those of you who don't know or understand, this game pays homage to our anti-Trek SF telly series "Blake's 7" (1978-1981) and original computer game "Elite" ( 1984). I thoroughly recommend it to you all, regardless of age. The controls are simple as are the setting and graphics, but in this age of GPU-busting overpriced rot, this should keep you busy for a few hours. And if you die, then the Federation wins, and we can't have that, can we?

Cute, more focused, Frontier Elite 2 styled game with 4k upscaling (if you hate pixels but love retro games like me).

This is a simple, and very charming homage to classic space shooters of the 90s. It's a story-based game (so don't expect complicated Elite-style trading) and the story is relatively short, so you might want to work that into the price you're willing to pay, but overall it's a lovingly crafted experience that scratched a low-poly space itch I didn't even realise I had.

I haven't had a lot of time to play this game, but it has a great vibe and I love the soundtrack.

I am well used to indy games and a fan of retro title. And I am a big Blakes 7 fan. Liberation is unplayable on game pad and the keyboard - and response in general - is real poor. I was looking forward to this based on reviews.
