With a goofy storyline and a fun Hack and Slash, Action RPG style gameplay, Legend of Krannia: Cursed Fate is going to be a fun one. The game is nowhere near polished or complete, but so far what I have been introduced to is nothing short of impressive, from its quirky dialogue to its point and click hack and slash gameplay. Gameplay: At the very beginning the game introduces some of the main characters and part of the story in a lengthy and poorly scripted manner of which I am not a big fan. Although the bits and pieces of the story that I managed to get was interesting, it’s so poorly presented and voiced that I was totally lost. Poor voice acting I totally understand, as indie studios always don’t have the resources to cast a star narrator, but when it comes to the quality of narration, audio, length, and how the story is being represented, there should be no compromises. The game briefly gave me a taste of what I might expect from the combat system with its brief intro, but even that was short and not well crafted, leaving me more confused than ever. As soon as the game began, I found myself in an odd town called Greentown with some bare essentials and nothing else. Interacting with the citizens should have been helpful enough to get me started, but it was not. So it took me a while to figure things out, but as I started to progress things started to get more interesting. I was required to visit the townhall to join a guild, which also took me a while since I like to explore, but the map seemed to show my own location and nothing else. I couldn’t see/find anything helpful with the in-game mini-map, nor was there an option to enlarge it. Now let’s talk about the controls; the game has made some very odd choices when it comes to the control scheme and overall button mapping, which am totally fine with, but in this day and age why would I be bound to my keyboard for all the controls, with the mouse left key for a single function?! The game movements are controlled by the four arrow keys which I’m happy to say does work as it should in an action RPG . . . buttery smooth. But where the odd control scheme really hit me was with its A, S, D, & F four key combat system. The intended functionality works ok with all four single actions and combos, but the choice of button mapping is truly bizarre. Even after playing for hours, my monkey brain couldn’t handle this control scheme (I guess that’s on me). For a while, I couldn’t even get past my first set of tasks in-game; I failed repeatedly, and almost rage-quit. And at the very last moment, I found the same trend of poor presentation of game functions. The game didn’t introduce me to its player/player equipment upgrade tab or explain how this works. The game does feature a pretty solid player and player equipment stat-boosting/upgrade function. This worked really well and turned out to be an essential tab to interact with if I was to explore further into the game. The same goes for the quest tab, but here the simplistic tab kind of works. Giving a limited amount of information on the quest adds another layer of difficultly to the mix, which I don’t mind. World design: After going through so much at the very beginning, what kept me going was the game’s world design. It’s colorful, vibrant, and very well detailed for the style of game. As I love to explore, I really enjoyed the game’s world design. There are a few things that need to be worked on, but for the most part, I like it. Music and sound effects: I like the background music choice here. This style of music very much resembled the old Bangla TV shows from the early 2000s that I used to watch as a kid, and threw me into a nostalgia loop ngl. The music kept playing at a mellow, almost unrecognizable, tone even after I turned it off; that was weird. The sound effects of the game were okay I guess, as expected from a game so early on its development. Considering all aspects of the game, Legend of Krannia: Cursed Fate brings a lot to the table. But at such an early stage, there is still a lot to be desired and polished. Some things impressed me and some didn’t, but I’ll be back for more when some more significant updates drop! Positives: + Decent plot + Fun gameplay + Odd control scheme but does the job + Decent upgrade system but is not well represented + Familiar style of music from my childhood + Fun world design + Good number of enemies to go through Negatives: - The Map was pointless - Lengthy and poorly scripted intro - Poor narration quality - Odd button-mapping choices - Functions and features are not well represented - Few bugs, such as enemies not attacking even when up close A fun new Action-RPG with a lot of potential after some much-needed polishing. Play in a unique fantasy world full of monsters and betrayals. 6/10 Key provided by the developer/publisher for review purposes. Any opinions expressed are entirely my own! Alright, review v2, let's go. With all of my major gripes fixed or currently being addressed, and making it to the end of the first volume (according to the devs), I think now would be a good time to give my final opinion on it, at least for the Early Access release (as of Feb. 14, 2021). The game is a unique hack-n-slash rpg with deckbuilding elements, where you make your way around Logra after being betrayed by your team and the prince and being sent back in time to turn the hands of fate. First of all, besides the info dump at the beginning of the game, I love the story. I haven't seen anything quite like it, and it definitely helped to get me invested. The end of the first volume really reeled me in, as quite a bit of the information from the game's intro suddenly made sense in terms of what's happening. Secondly, the flexibility with the abilities you can equip makes for a very in-depth combat system, even given the wait times to refill your stamina. I personally like the idea of taking evasive action after spending most of your stamina on a powerful combo. Thirdly, it is challenging. Like, really challenging at points. After the fixes, most deaths seemed much less unfair and challenged me to sharpen my skills and reorganize my abilities and DP. My only remaining problems are that the buildings are a little hard to distinguish at first so I had a hard time remembering where certain NPCs were. Overall, the devs are really cool people, go support them by buying this game! It currently has a good lengthy main quest and a smattering of side quests to play through, and I felt it was worth it.
Video Review: https://youtu.be/JVgyWm6MalI 2/10 Will Re-review after a few major updates are released. A top-down fantasy game with deck building elements. You play as Vahn who is betrayed by his fellow soldiers and falls in battle, Vahn is given another chance and finds himself in a small town having to start a new, he must build his strength and stop the darkness that plagues the kingdom. Now this is the abridged version of the beginning because the intro and the dialogue in the begging is over 5 mins long, way too long in my opinion I was starting to get bored after the min and a half. The intro is voiced and the quality is extremely bad, very quiet, the static is heavy and the voice actor speaks slower than the text is written, but this is not a real big sticking point for me, it's an indie game, developers may find difficulty to have a buget for voice actors and do this themselves, not an issue. The dialogue that follows though is a hard point for me, its drawn out, and lacks any real substance. I read the first dozen lines got bord and just fast peddled through a good bit. I understood what was going on in the story and the rest was genuinely just filler not needing to be there. If they can shorten the intro to be more modest this would be fantastic, realistically have your voiced intro and run a tutorial through the dialogue to keep players interested in the begging would be the best option. So, after the long-winded intro I finally got to the meat and potatoes of the game, I started off in a town called Green town and was told to go to the guild to find info on one of the culprits of my betrayal, Joined the guild and had my info, he was in a dungeon just south of the town, but I was far too weak to make it through the dungeon, so I look to the boards for the quest I needed to help me level up. The Boards are scattered throughout the zones and will let you know what the zones level requirements are going to be. This would be somewhat help full if it wasn't for reason’s that I will touch on later. Back to the quest simple enough, kill 20 goblins, ok there are plenty right outside of the town, walk up to the first 3 to kill and they charge me and almost kill me instantly. Sadly, I was shocked because this is supposed to be the first enemies you fight so I didn’t think the difficulty would be ramped up that hard, all I got in the beginning was a short 30 second tutorial and then thrown in to this world, but ok let's continue, then I saw it... something I couldn't believe, there was no save file, this game does not have an auto save and never told me that or if it did, I skipped it in the drowning dialogue in the begging After restarting and making sure I saved, I tried the goblins again and died quickly again, so I looked through the info screens and found that I had 15 points I could invest, didn’t know I had them. I like the leveling system I will say that its well Indepth for what you get. You can have more physical damage, more magic damage, more health and attack points, or how fast you recover your health and attack points. On top of that you also have your cards that you can use in battle. the cards as well can be leveled up to your level if you have enough points to do so increasing their damage and crits, and armor increasing in defense. I like how you can swap the cards around and choose your style of attack. Let's actually touch on how you fight in this game, A, S, D, AND F, are your attack buttons that can have up to 4 attacks assigned to them, It runs through them kind of like a combo attack, you can mix and match them how you see fit, Shift is your doge and C is your shield I like how this is set up and I feel like it could be extremely fun and fast passed, “could be” is the big thing though. After leveling up I repeated my death from the goblins and had to resort to keeping out of charging distance and kill them one at a time, starting my adventure off at a snail's pace. This did not change for most of the game. Most enemies hit hard and when they are grouped in 2s and 3s can easily overwhelm you and defeat you quickly. The reason for this is because for you to regenerate heath and attack points you must stand still and do nothing leaving you open for attack; you can block but this uses up one point each time you are hit negating the refill. So, with this being the way you need to fight the quest boards also make it tough. Most quest are to defeat a set number of specified creatures. That set number always seems to be 20. The boards also tell you the quest in the area are for levels x-y and this seems to be far from true. One area marked for levels 3-10, even at level seven, if it wasn't the goblins, I was very close to death if had to take them head on. You either need to be at the max level described or above if you want a fighting chance in the areas. And level seven is where I stopped playing from frustration and boredom, I had grinded to level seven after 4 and a half hours of playing and I made zero progress in the story. The fighting is slow and sluggish due to having to wait for recharges during and between fights. During fights its easy to get stuck in attacks, you can’t move and have no option but wait to die, which I feel like is a bug and can be fixed. Progression in the game is slowed to a crawl and needs to be picked up and possibly enemies need to be scaled down. And again with the intro scale back and make the tutorial most of the beginning to give the players more of an idea of what they are playing before throwing them to the wolfs. These are some of the big changes that need to happen to make this game open to a large audience. It's in early access and they can get criticism now to hopefully fix the issues, but I'm afraid this may sully the game in the beginning and people won’t look back to see how it is coming along. It may have been released prematurely and I am afraid it's going to flop even though I can see real potential in the game. I want to come back after some big updates to re-review this game hopefully to find the game I believe it can be, but for now I can’t recommend it to most if any at the stage it is now. If you love to game test this is a great game to get, you can be part of the helping force to get the game off the ground. If not then this is something to avoid for now.
Great game! fun and challenging.
This game reminds me a lot of some of my favorite games, including Link to the Past. The devs are often updating and adding more to the game. If you like RPGS, Indie Games, Adventure I recommend checking this game out. The music is very catchy too, the art is visually beautiful and colourful as well. It's easy to play and the devs love feedback.
This game is absolutely a blast to play and I had a fun time covering the game on my YouTube Channel and streaming it as well. I loved voice acting the game as well add a little flair to the game. The gameplay is fun and the game can sometimes be a bit unforgiving lol Its definitely fun and a quick pick up for any one looking for a gory cartoon rpg title.
i was given this game via another streamer called captainoatstv that received extra codes for streaming purposes from the developer a game still under development but from the time ive played so far ive found the story interesting especially with the initial premise there are a couple of features that still need to be implemented but discussing with the developer there are plans to bring in controller compatibility ( and as someone who prefers controllers i look forward to this ), auto save feature ( which as someone that forgets to save is a good option to have as auto or at least regular reminders ) and some kind of reminders that some areas include instant respawn points ( which took me a few attempts and an inquiry to get confirmation on - although its good for creating farming points which are a good thing for this type of game) will be updating after further playtime
Great game! Kudos for those developers made this behind.
Great Game all in all with a lot of potential I would recommend it bc its nice and chill with just the normal grinding elements. But at the same time its a bit long in the start and enemys lvl with you wich make the progress to the point that u can stay in the same area in the beginning for a long time and u can just lvl and lvl with out the biggest consquences A lot of enemys need rework done some enemys are too strong for beginners and just rush u to death and they lvl with you so u basically have no chance to maybe some point some enemys stagger you and u have a hard time getting away from them and lastly some enemys have a broken ay and dont attack you at all i would also rework a bit in menu aspect but thats a side thing all in all the game is fun and challenging learning the battle mechanic is nice getting to diffrent combies the disign is nice maybe a bit to much grimm faces but the cartoon stile makes it nice to look at and the disgins are a bit repeated but the amount of people in the towns make it a nice and crowded town with a lot of people to interact with its just a little review and my first one but i expect great thing from the game and hope it will come out rly good
