Ah yes... That one childhood game that you used to play when you were like less than 10 years old and had so much memory playing it but, in reality, had never even went past the first chapter of the game because you suck at these type of games back then lmao. But for real tho, it isn't exactly that "bad" of a game considering its age and the platform it's originally made for... It has a lot of interesting gameplay with lots of puzzles, platforming, racing(?) and combat. And speaking of combat, personally, i really like it. It's not exactly that hard but it does require some timing and you needing to get the hang of its combo system. And once you get the hang of the combo system, the fighting parts kinda feel fun and somewhat fast-paced for me, me thinks. But one thing that I hate about this game is the dang camera controls. Cause I noticed how, especially for the platforming sections, there are certain angles you wanna see before, y'know, getting the perfect timing to perfectly execute the sequence of jumps, but couldn't really see them due to like an artificial restriction from seeing too high or too low. Which often result in me like constantly missing the jump and doing the whole jumping section all over again... Which can get really annoying sometimes. The story on the other hand, is very meh. And it kinda makes sense; it's a game made more for young kids rather than adults as it's a typical kid-friendly story about a young cat hero being oppressed by bad animal imperialists which leads to said hero wanting to save his people and place from the oppressors. Cue some fighting montage and defeating the baddies, and then the hero finally saves the day and get the oddly attractive (I swear, I'm not a furry) cat girl-friend. One thing that I kinda find funny about the cutscenes in the game (which honestly i didn't remember when I played this when I was young) is how bad the dialogues can be at times... Sometimes the characters sounds fine, but often it feels like they're just reading a script in the most monotonous, cringy, or even exaggerated ways lmao. So... would I recommend it? Well, if you wanna experience a PS2-era game because you have a crappy PC and you want a relatively cheap game that is kinda like a discount Legend of Zelda filled with lots of puzzles, platformers, combat, and racing(?), then you might want to consider playing this game... But, if you're aren't into those... Well, you might wanna try some "other" games, instead.
I played this one originally on a console and it wasn't much different of a port on the PC. It's not the best action adventure game out there, but it's definitely not a terrible one either. I think the characters are pretty cute and I liked the comic style cutscenes.

One of my favourite childhood classics remastered ♥️ Got this and Simpsons Hit & Run along with my first own PS2 and its always stuck with me since. The nostalgia definitely has an impact on how I view this game but honestly 10/10 for a cartoony platformer from the 2000s ✌🏼♥️

Legend of Kay Anniversary is a terrible game for the following reasons: 1. The story is bland and uninspiring and it's just another cliche about a loudmouth brat destined to save his world. 2. The voice acting, mouth movement and the script is atrocious. 3. Sometimes the cutscenes are presented in animated comic panels however the drawings in the panels sometimes look weird. Also sometimes there are even mistakes. For example in the cutscene you see when you make it at the misty islands we see frog palanquin carriers carrying the rat king. The rat king gets down from the palanquin to scold some gorillas but when the rat king gets back on his palanquin the carriers are rabbits. 4. The camera sucks and will even get you killed. 5. The button mapping on the controller cannot be changed. 6. The game has no save slots and no stage select meaning if you missed something like a demon portal or worse your game glitched you have to start from the beginning. You would think a game that is supposed to be a remaster would have quality of life features such as a basic stage selection or the ability to back. 7. Some of the early levels take way too long to finish because they are filled with random objectives you have to do that sometimes require you to backtrack but the last levels are just straight forward. 8. Some of the moves are pointless to do as they require you to button mash in order to execute them. 9. The super move where you summon lightning for whatever reason does not have its own button and in order to execute it you will have to hold the attack button to do it leaving you vulnerable to attacks. 10. While playing you will find giant gems that change color when you hit them the only way to break them is by using your special attack, this means you will lose mana that you could have used on enemies but the worst part is that the game at least as am aware does not tell you that and it also does tell you what the color of the gems does other than give you points. 11. Your character can swim but for some reason if you swim long enough you will lose health and will have to start from a checkpoint which makes you wonder why you even have the ability to swim in the first place. 12. In the game there are portal that you can access through a demon potion but unless you use a guide or look up a walkthrough good luck finding the portals as the demon potion only lasts for 10 seconds. 13. Killing enemies drops coins however if you don't collect them fast enough they will disappear but because you get sworn with enemies on later levels and also in harder difficulties there will be times were you will lose most of them. 14. The enemies you fight feel like damage sponges because they wear armor and are always in ‘’block mode’’ meaning it doesn't matter from where you are hitting them they will block your attack and it will take you a while to take them down. (You are supposed to grab them but most of the time at least for me doesn't work) 15. The only weapon that is actually good is the second and third hammer but you can only obtain them when you are close at the last levels. 16. The final boss was super easy even on nightmare difficulty. 17. If you wish to unlock everything you have to play the game and try to get as many points as possible. 18. The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ‘’races’’ are so atrocious that they need their own paragraph. The game has ‘’races’’ where you ride an animal and have to go through an obstacle course for no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason. The races are ridiculously hard and very precise no matter what difficulty you are playing. If that wasn't bad enough the races are also very glitchy and will result in you having to start the race again and again and that will drive you mad to the point of wanting to beat up the people who thought it was a good idea to include them in the game. It would have been ok if the races were just the optional ones. But no you are forced to complete some of them to progress the story. However they are literally pointless as they only give you coins for completing them or atleast most of them. The only thing that this game has going for it is that you play as an anthropomorphic feline and I like anthropomorphic felines however It would be cool if you could choose which of the four animals in the kingdom you could play as. Most if not all of the aspects of this game are not good and did not age well and only someone with nostalgic glasses will be able to appreciate it and look past its many flaws.
I absolutely love this game BUT, and big BUT, the mechanics of saves and level progression is AWFUL! I wanted to 100% each area and find all of the collectables, but when I was in Chapter 8 playing on nightmare, I accidentally went through the turtle head to Chapter 9 and missed important items and demon portals. There is no manual save functions or chapter selection, and no way to return so it killed my playthrough and I can not be asked to start the ENTIRE GAME again. Such a shame because I was having fun, but losing hours of progress due to this ruined it for me. Why, in a remaster, would you not add quality of life features as basic as chapter selection and manual save slots?????
Couldn't force myself to complete the game. On the swamps the platforming becomes absolutely awful. You are either overjump the object constantly, or slide from it. This game is very irritatingly unpolished and I cannot recommend it to anyone.
