This is a fun little game about your hero going on a martial arts quest to find the legendary Master Hand who disappeared long ago, as he seems to be the key to stopping and preventing war from breaking out among the lands. It's a game that's overall left me with a good impression even though it's hard to define or review in a traditional sense. This is mostly a point and click style adventure game with some RPG mechanics/fights and minigames strewn throughout, it's eclectic but at the same time doesn't feel like the different styles clash with each other. The art is quite strange, never seen anything like it, a cross between bizarre MS paint and surrealism/abstract elements but strangely it works for this fantasy world the game is pretty effective at portraying. Some of the artwork is actually quite beautiful despite being rough around the edges, makes you feel like an amateur artist went in and put love into a lot of the frames. You can feel a lot of passion went into the game, the sound design is pretty good too, the sounds and music create something nice and atmospheric, the kind of game that gets you really sucked in while you're playing it wondering what sort of strange thing might happen in these weird islands you explore. I also enjoyed a lot of the characters along the way, there's even some pretty heartfelt moments near the end of the story, though the game is so weird some aspects may leave you scratching your head. The point and click puzzle style gameplay isn't too hard but some of the puzzles can be hard to deduce, I never noticed getting hard locked/glitched out of a solution at any point but it's the kind of game that has many steps involved to solving things and I highly recommend using a guide and rotating several save slots in case you hit a wall and need to retrace what you were doing. The combat encounters could be a little RNG for my taste but by the time you start getting some sparring sessions in with NPCs you'll get a better feel for how it works. Some of the minigames are fun albeit can end up teetering on frustrating due to the games limited mechanics, but there is still some quirky charm and enjoyment to be gotten from interacting with the environment and trying different things out. The game almost feels like it would have been right at home in the early/mid 90s adventure genre, even though I haven't played a whole lot of those types of games. This game really stuck out to me as far as indie RPGs go, unless you wanna consider this more of a point and click (it's a definite solid mix) I found myself giggling sometimes at the dialogue, and enjoying the game having a nice share of goofy/weirdness moments and also some badass martial arts scenes and themes in there too, with some of the fighting and artwork being legitimately badass. Feels like a strange mix of RPG game and point and click art project in an intriguing way, if you hate the point and click style games or the artstyle of the game this may be a little rough to recommend but for anyone looking for something WILDLY different than some of the other things on here I have to encourage it for its uniqueness and memorability more than anything else, even if it's slightly technically limited and could have had the RPG elements slightly more fleshed out. Even for 6.99 this is a solid recommendation from me, get it on sale if you're on the fence I did and ultimately wasn't disappointed!
Very interesting and somewhat bizarre game, very inspired and highly recommended. The plot is amazing, and the ending - totally mindblowing. The game reeks of inspiration. It's almost a work of art. Great job, CDG!
Good stuff!
This game was painstakingly hand-crafted over four years by three artists with a deep love for storytelling, world-building, and adventure gaming, and it really shows. The love poured into Legend of Hand is obvious throughout, from the environmental design and music selections to the hand-drawn animations and charming dialogue. It is a unique, atmospheric point-and-click adventure with just the right amount of RPG frosting. It is rare to play a different-feeling adventure game that keeps what's great about the genre while also executing its experimental side effectively, and this game manages to do it. If you want a creative, artful, FUN indie-adventure experience, Legend of Hand is a great choice.
I consider this to be my least favorite 'Cloak & Dagger' game, but it's still a fun game to play. It's just that it lacks that sense of mystery and suspense that I love about their other titles.
Hidden gem and a silly game.
A surprisingly good game (and I don't mean any offence by "surprisingly" – it just exceeded my expectations). The game is quite long and therefore offers a lot of fun. The storyline, characters and dialogue are quirky enough to keep you engaged even though it's probably not the most challenging one in the genre, and the combat/RPG elements give this title a bit of freshness. Some of the soundtrack works great even outside of its intended context. All in all, if you're a fan of point and click stuff and you're looking for something at least a little bit non-generic, you (probably) won't regret it. Also, the ending is one of the most hilarious I've encountered. Kudos to the team behind this game!
At first I didn't expect that much from this game, but I was blown away. Exploring the islands and interacting with the people, and fun and easy combats(they don't take a huge part of the story, which makes it better imo)... And the final sequence was really unexpected! I was a bit disappointed about the ending at first, but as I think about it I got to love it. Really recommend if you like point and click adventure games and like to explore further into the genre!
The definition of a hidden gem. Surreal kung fu journey.
