Hässlich und Strange - aber irgendwie cool

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3289889808

Kurzfazit: 👍🏻

✅ Football Game GROßARTIGES RETRO POINT AND KLICK

✅ The Terrible Old Man und noch ein GROßARTIGES RETRO POINT AND KLICK

✅ A Date in the Park und noch ein GROßARTIGES RETRO POINT AND KLICK

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3290355068
Legend of Hand is a 2D retro pixel point and click adventure game along the lines of Kings Quest or Monkey Island, only terrible, because it was slapped together lazily with the Adventure Game Studio construction kit. We can say for sure this is not an asset flip beyond the uncredited use of the Adventure Game Studio construction kit and game engine (of course, claiming someone else's work as your own is still unethical, that counts for game engines as well as assets). The visual pixel "art" assets are of such poor quality that no self respecting asset creator would publish them. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the video game construction kit/toolset, Adventure Game Studio. This is a very poor quality toolset sometimes used by amateur/unskilled developers as it doesn't require advanced game development skills, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Legend of Hand didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for completing the very short tutorial/first stage, but only around 36 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only appears around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. Legend of Hand has the completely unrealistic cash grab price of around $7 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam.
It's kinda like if the Moldy Peaches made a LucasArts game
Such an entertaining adventure and experience. The world is full of quirky life and funny events. The art style is... unique, for sure... but charming and actually perfectly fits this game's atmosphere. As for the puzzle side of things... it was difficult enough where I've only been stumped once or twice. I'd rather not waste time solving complex puzzles or looking up solutions anyway - it ruins the immersion for me. What I loved most was that the game was that it continued to impress, surprise, and entertain me when I least expected it to. It encapsulates the strangeness of a lot of old-school point & click adventures so well. And it SMACKS you with some real BANGERS out of nowhere, like c'mon! My only complaint would be that the combat system is lackluster and a bit TOO random... Definitely could've had implemented a more creative system with some interesting choices... However, the game outside of combat is fun and definitely still worth playing.

Goofy
Charming
Quirky
Rustic
Old-school
These are the few words that popped into my head when I think of Legend of Hand.
Inspiration?
By far, this game is one of the best point-and-click adventure games I've finished recently and in general. Part of it was because of the nostalgic feeling I get, reminding me of some of the classical old martial arts movies I used to watch, like The Way of the Dragon and Bloodsport, even if I have terrible memories of them, I wasn't at the right age to watch those films if I told you. If you grew up watching any martial arts films, you may cherish this game if you give it a chance.
Combat:
Legend of Hand feels like it has taken inspiration or some form of semblance from these films, but don't worry, this game story is completely original. First things first, you can actually fight in this game, just your standard turn-based fight system, nothing special, but it's still fun to do, adding a change in pace and another layer of challenge rather than just solving puzzles. You can earn new different sets of moves either by finding them or purchasing and completing different mini-games. My one rule of recommendation is to grind as many coins as possible. An opportunity to do that is on the blue island by fishing and earning money from it. That's particularly what I did for an hour, and I'm glad I did because some fights get hard later in the game, so you might make your life easier by doing this and who doesn't like fishing?
There's more to this than meets the eye:
Not only is fighting the major focus. It is also filled with many mythical things happening, like a talking red cat or reptilian people. All of this highlights the developer's creative liberty for showcasing many things out of the box that were unexpected, and keeping my adrenaline up for guessing what else could happen. And the great thing about this is that there is an in-lore explanation for all of this that is satisfying.
Levels + Puzzles:
Within this game, there are 5 levels, with 4 of the first ones being on the island where you have to find and defeat the leader of the island in combat. Throughout the game, each level gets progressively more difficult and bigger in scale, starting with the first level (the green island), which acts as a tutorial. I found the puzzles another positive to this game. They are easy and logistical, requiring minimal backtracking. At maximum, you may struggle with 5 of them, but I will say some mini-games are more difficult than the actual puzzles. I would argue this game is more focused on giving you a good story with some wacky moments in between. Something to have fun and to not to take seriously.
Artstyle and Characters:
I know art is subjective, so if you're one of those people who find the art style off-putting at first glance, I advise you to try to stare at it for a few minutes, and maybe you'll get used to it. As for me, I had no problem with it from the start, appreciating it more every hour I played. Although the style is crooked, musty, and can be disjointed, the people within this world are still thriving and living their lives with smiles on their faces, really like real people. I dunno, I found that something special. Many of the characters here are very likeable and become very supportive throughout the journey. Even some of the leaders of the island who ended up becoming an 'antagonist' have a change of heart, which doesn't feel like they have a coin flip feeling, a reasonable one.
Conclusion:
If you're still here and you still haven't considered playing this game, just watch the video below to see how a proper voicework is done. If that doesn't convince you, then I don't know what else will. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7D9rzQYG1tQ
Such a strange and wonderful game, LOVED IT! Hilarious and sweet... Just what I needed. So clever
Fun game, horrible ending. The point & click puzzles are alright and the story is a nice mix of silli- and seriousness, but it drags on a little too long towards the ending which then is ... just no. Dear writers of the future, don't go there. Just don't. I could've lived without the money and the combat and stats mechanics. Don't really add anything worthwile to the game, but at least the combat is a major theme in the story, so it didn't bother me much, either. The graphics look like the developer spent too much time with MS Paint as a hobby, but are decent for what they are and a lot of effort was put into details and animations.
