The negative reviews seem to largely be complaining about a current lack of purpose in the game. Mind you... this is a sandbox game. This genre revolves around your ability to create your OWN purpose. Are there actually people that buy Minecraft for the sake of beating the ender dragon and completing the game? I think the pivot to creativity and building tools using voxels over 'blocks' allows for so much creativity, and actually ended up finding the world really charming! I'm exciting to see what I can do with the tools in the game as I get deeper into it. The building system and mechanics took a bit of getting used to, but I can really feel the charm and can recognize that this game is unique in what it offers compared to others in the genre like it. Overall, I think this game is PERFECT if what you want is an actual creative sandbox experience. I'm not personally sure why one would buy a game like this solely for the purpose of the RPG and questing side of things, but if that's what you're seeking, I would look elsewhere.
Dude, buy it. I've spent most of these 7 hours just building. Pros; I turned the broken down library into a two story home and the observatory into my workshop. I died a lot to those little fire bastards until I discovered an exploit where I stand in water and they just look at me like sad little dudes while I shoot them. Food isn't entirely lacking in purpose, as it can boost regen, mana, and stamina, along with certain attacks, but generally not necessary at all. I wish it was though, because I grew a massive eggplant farm and don't know what to do with the produce. I've made paintings and statues with the voxels, a custom fireplace and spark screen, railings, windowsills, etc. The amount of detail you can entertain is incredible. I haven't fought a single boss monster. I know they exist (thanks to spoilers) but I've been so invested in my builds that I don't know ♥♥♥♥ about ♥♥♥♥ when it comes to anything else. Lmfao Cons; Not a finished game, still has some minor kinks to work out. No fishing, No Co-Op, No character customization.
Fun game with good bones. One of those games that makes me wish for a neutral review. There is an update roadmap, which is promising, but as of now the game feels pretty shallow. Also, devs, please for the love of god, raise the base movement speed up.
This game is a voxel Teardown style second reincarnation of prime Cube World and the last thing that needs to be done is overwhelming the dev with negativity. This game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rocks for something made by one guy and I'd say just give it time. Totally worth it, fun, especially for building. Negative reviews act like the game's some sort of mass produced money maker by an indie studio. The price is to support the project while the game's content slowly grows. Do get it, you'll like it, and if you find it boring after a while just let it sit and come back after a few updates for a fresh experience
the game is amazing. The graphics look incredible, the overall Physic engine makes the game very immersive and there are very few bugs.
I really wanted to enjoy Lay of the Lands, and there are some promising ideas here, but after just a few hours I found myself running out of things to do. The biggest issue is the lack of meaningful content and progression. Once you've seen the core gameplay loop, there isn't much to work towards, and the game doesn't provide enough clear goals or long-term objectives to keep you engaged. Rather than feeling like I'm building towards something, it quickly became a case of asking, "What now?" Without a stronger sense of purpose or additional systems to unlock, the experience starts to feel repetitive much sooner than it should. That said, it's important to remember that the game is still in development, and I'm willing to give it some leeway because of that. Early Access games often evolve significantly over time, and there's definitely potential here if the developers continue to expand the content and flesh out the progression. In conclusion I'd recommend adding it to the wishlist For now, as I fear already receiving money for the project could stimy motivation to deliver, unless you're specifically interested in following the game's development. At its current stage, it simply doesn't offer enough.
Being able to create complex detailed buildings or just anything your mind can create allows for some unlimited creativity to your designs.
the land do be laying
Ok, so at first I was like - meh, game looks boring and empty, but I'll give it a chance. And hour later I was locked in, and enjoying every pixel on my screen and every tiny bit of the world around. Now lets get into why: * Visuals, optimization and physics: hoooooolllyyyy - world looks and feels great, and the fact that it was made by one person makes it even more impressive * Mechanics: there are a lot of unique and cool ideas - even tree cutting has its own small but pleasant twist. Smiting is simplified but thought-thru version of what there is in the Vintage Story. And idea that you actually can see gems which you infused weapon with is a cheffs kiss. Building is a bit hard to wrap your head around, but once you've used to it, and discovered blueprints system - it becomes really pleasant and simple * Locations and bioms: they are small, and not a lot of them, but again it's a pleasure to explore Main problem and reason for most of the negative reviews which I've seen - is that the bar for the Sandbox genre is really really high, and people expect a lot of things out of the box, which this game unfortunately doesn't have yet - like advanced cooking, multiplayer, or huge world. But on the other hand - given level of quality and uniqueness of game core which is already there - I really hope that developer will not run out of money or will to live, and continue to grow this game into something massive and awesome. Also, never thought that I would say this phrase - but "I wish there would be more grind in this game" XD
