Reviews
I've been struggling to write a review for Last Dream Fishing arcade, but what I'm trying to get at is that they call it a Fishing RPG and they really mean it. It's not just because it's got stats and equipment and abilities and characters, it's that the game actually lets you use all of these tools together strategically to push the boundaries of what your stats say you should be able to catch. It really feels like fighting an enemy who's level is higher than me in an RPG. I think that's very neat. The core loop is simple, yes. Upgrade base stats to catch bigger fish to upgrade base stats to catch bigger fish. But when I'm fighting a big fish and cash in my stored up Overdrive to use buff and debuff skills, synergizing with the items I have equipped and the potions I drank and the character I picked's unique ability. Carefully reeling in the fish over the course of a full minute lest I hold a button a bit too long and snap the line, and finally catch the fish and it's worth 10x what any other fish I've ever caught has been worth. Yeah I like Last Dream Fishing Arcade! I think I'll play it again soon.
Love it! Like the treasure chests, found some pearls, random merchant, funny clouds. The fish reveals are stellar. Throwback but with on-point music and maaaany menu features. I tried to catch the pelican and the crab... is this possible, haha! Somehow, you can get to many more levels...I only got through one character in 90 minutes. Pretty cool there is much more content. I want to catch the ultra shadow-fish!!
Good game.
This was just the kind of relaxing experience I was seeking after a stressful day (really, a stressful year...). I selected Easy Mode because I just wanted to chill, but it was a bit TOO easy. Normal was perfect: good challenge and fun equipment progression with an innovating fishing mechanism. The music is great, too. My nitpick is that the messages in bottles seem long for the information provided, but I suppose that helps slow down the pacing, as well, which is the point of a game like this. There is a lot here, and I think I have only seen a portion of it. I appreciated the tutorial (as well as being able to easily skip it next time), and the wavy opening screen amidst the fish was cool. You can tell a lot of thought and effort was invested in this game. More generally, I am happy to see continued offerings from the creators of Last Dream - one of my favorite games.
Contender for best fishing game on Steam. This is fun arcade fishing. Upgrade your gear. Collect treasure chests and messages in a bottle. I must warn you. Very challenging. It took me a few hours to upgrade enough to win the national fishing tournament. https://steamcommunity.com/groups/indieretrogamers
Fantastic game, was play 3h straight. In same time relaxing and a bit addicting, all the time is like one more tournament or one more upgrade. Definitely will play more, world cup to win and rod to upgrade waiting for me. Only downside i find, is music after some time get bit annoying :)
Last Dream Fishing Arcade is a charming fishing-focused RPG developed and published by White Giant RPG Studios that successfully transforms a simple recreational activity into a surprisingly engaging progression-driven adventure. While many fishing games focus on realism and simulation, this title takes a more arcade-oriented approach, blending fast-paced fishing mechanics with character growth, collectible hunting, tournaments, exploration, and long-term progression systems. The result is a relaxing yet addictive experience that constantly rewards players for investing time into mastering its waters. Set within the fantasy world of Gaia, the game follows a group of aspiring anglers determined to rise through the ranks and earn recognition as elite fishers. Their ultimate objective is to compete in the prestigious Gaia Championship, a challenge that requires dedication, skill, and a willingness to explore every corner of the world in search of rare catches. Although the narrative remains relatively light throughout the adventure, it provides enough structure to keep players motivated while supporting the game's larger focus on progression and exploration. One of the most appealing aspects of Last Dream Fishing Arcade is the way it combines role-playing mechanics with traditional fishing gameplay. Every fishing session contributes toward a larger progression system. Players gradually improve their characters, unlock new abilities, obtain stronger equipment, and gain access to increasingly rewarding fishing locations. This constant sense of advancement makes even short play sessions feel productive and creates a satisfying gameplay loop that encourages continued exploration. The fishing mechanics themselves strike an excellent balance between simplicity and depth. Casting a line, hooking a fish, and reeling it in may sound straightforward, but the system incorporates timing, positioning, line management, and special abilities that add layers of strategy. Fish react differently depending on their species and rarity, requiring players to adjust their approach accordingly. The mechanics are easy to learn but offer enough complexity to remain engaging throughout the entire adventure. Character selection introduces another layer of variety. Players can choose from multiple unique anglers, each possessing their own strengths, weaknesses, and special abilities. These differences significantly affect gameplay and encourage experimentation with different playstyles. Some characters excel at catching difficult species, while others are better suited for maximizing profits or tournament performance. The diverse roster helps ensure that replaying the game remains enjoyable long after the main progression path has been completed. The progression system is one of the game's greatest strengths. Every fish caught contributes toward improving equipment and unlocking new opportunities. Better rods, stronger lines, improved reels, and enhanced abilities all provide tangible benefits that make future fishing expeditions more efficient. Unlike games where upgrades feel insignificant, every improvement here noticeably affects performance. This steady progression creates a strong sense of accomplishment and motivates players to continue pursuing bigger challenges. Collecting fish becomes a compelling objective in its own right. The game features an extensive catalog of aquatic life, including common species, rare catches, and enormous legendary fish hidden throughout the world. Filling the collection log becomes an addictive pursuit, especially as players gain access to new locations and equipment capable of reaching previously inaccessible species. The excitement of discovering an unfamiliar fish never entirely disappears, even after dozens of hours of gameplay. Exploration plays a surprisingly important role in the overall experience. Numerous fishing locations are scattered throughout Gaia, each featuring distinct visual themes, species pools, and environmental characteristics. Some areas contain rare fish unavailable elsewhere, while others hide secrets and collectibles that encourage thorough investigation. Unlocking new regions provides a genuine sense of discovery and transforms the game into more than a simple series of fishing minigames. Tournaments add an enjoyable competitive dimension to the experience. These events challenge players to maximize their catches and outperform rival anglers using the skills and equipment they have developed. Tournament participation often requires strategic planning, efficient use of resources, and a strong understanding of fish behavior. The competitive element introduces variety and gives players meaningful milestones to pursue beyond simple collection goals. One of the game's most impressive achievements is the amount of content available. Between the extensive fish catalog, numerous characters, multiple difficulty settings, unlockable modes, challenge content, and achievement hunting, there is a remarkable amount to do. Completionists will find themselves investing substantial time into uncovering every secret, collecting every species, and mastering every system the game offers. Visually, Last Dream Fishing Arcade embraces a colorful pixel-art aesthetic that feels both nostalgic and inviting. The environments are vibrant, the fish designs are distinctive, and the overall presentation successfully captures the spirit of classic role-playing adventures. While the graphics intentionally favor charm over realism, they suit the game's relaxed tone perfectly and help create a welcoming atmosphere. The soundtrack contributes significantly to the experience as well. Each location features its own musical themes that enhance the sense of place and encourage players to settle into long fishing sessions. The music remains soothing without becoming repetitive, supporting the game's laid-back pacing and helping create an atmosphere that feels both relaxing and rewarding. The game's primary limitation is that its appeal depends heavily on the player's enjoyment of fishing. Despite the role-playing systems, exploration mechanics, and progression features, fishing remains the central activity from beginning to end. Players looking for extensive story content, combat systems, or highly varied gameplay may eventually find the experience repetitive. However, those who appreciate collection-driven progression and relaxing gameplay will likely view this focus as one of the game's strengths. What ultimately makes Last Dream Fishing Arcade memorable is its ability to transform a niche concept into a compelling long-term adventure. Every new fish, every equipment upgrade, and every unlocked location contributes to a satisfying progression loop that consistently rewards player effort. The game understands exactly what it wants to be and delivers a polished experience centered around growth, discovery, and the simple pleasure of fishing. Last Dream Fishing Arcade stands as an excellent example of how a focused concept can be elevated through strong progression systems and thoughtful design. Its blend of arcade fishing, role-playing mechanics, exploration, tournaments, and collectible hunting creates a surprisingly deep and rewarding experience. For players who enjoy fishing games or progression-driven adventures, it offers many hours of relaxing entertainment and an impressive amount of content to explore. Rating: 6/10
A good way to pass some time
