Last Box Standing May Go On is a delightfully challenging puzzle game. The game is designed in such a way that the player learns its mechanics in an organic and intuitive way, which is highly appreciated. While the game has a simple concept, a lot of the puzzles demand both cognitive and creative thinking. For its price, Last Box is a bargain and offers more than enough entertainment and fun for many hours. However, a level editor would have vastly enriched an already great experience. The graphics, backgrounds, and music add plenty of nuance to the game. All these aspects are reduced to the essentials so that the player can truly be immersed in the fresh challenges each new level provides. Thus, the reward for each completed stage feels all the more earned, and one can only wonder what difficulties still await later in the game. The short, solemn jingle one gets is the cherry on top. Philosophically, the game presents a Darwinian approach: Bigger boxes eat smaller ones to either grow or to remove competition. Only the last box remaining is allowed to move on into the great unknown. Why these boxes live an arguably cruel life such as this is left for the players imagination to fill in the blanks. However, in contrast to this, if two of the biggest purple boxes try to eat each other, they will turn into smaller boxes again. Thus, in certain stages it is not the biggest boxes but rather the smaller ones which are the last ones remaining standing - Stage 41 is a perfect example of this. Whether or not this might illuminate a criticism of an unrestricted Darwinian world view is left for the player to decide for themselves. Overall ask yourself: Do you want to play this game and be the last box standing, or skip it and thus be eaten in the process. I highly recommend Last Box Standing May Go On and you should give it a try.
