About
Step into the world of Osvaldo Golijov's “La Pasión segun San Marcos ” re-imagined in XR for the release of the "Live at 25" live recording by Gateway Chamber Orchestra and Chorale and Summit Records.
Set in a 3D point cloud theater environment, “La Pasión XR ” brings visitors to an ephemeral, audio-reactive concert experience where they are free to explore a showcase of powerful volumetric and 360 stereo recordings of the Gateway Chamber Orchestra in Clarksville, TN.
In Spring of 2023, the ensemble performed a limited run of the landmark work by composer Osvaldo Golijov - “La Pasión segun San Marcos ” (2000) and the team of technologists at Agile Lens were invited to create a cinematic experience that brings the piece to life in virtual space for all to experience. Using methods like volumetric capture and 3D scanning, the creators have made a world where anyone can get incredible seats to witness the choreography, or examine some of the unique instrumentation rarely performed outside of Latin America.
Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
Sometimes doing reviews is not easy at all. This is a musical / artistic / experimental experience for VR that you may enjoy. Sadly, I cannot say that I enjoyed it. It's basically a Latin / Afro-beats orchestral musical experience with lots of religious overtones. I think the whole thing may take about 30 minutes if you experience all the content. I had some issues so I'm unable to give an exact estimate. A lot of the experience is artistically imagined particle effects over the concert so that you're not always sure what you're looking at exactly. However, you can view 360 videos of the actual concert for the most part. Unfortunately, I ran into several technical issues such as the app crashing or the song being restarted from the beginning. The control method is very rudimentary and makes navigating the app somewhat of a chore. Maybe you'll enjoy this more than I did. I'm not an art critic, but the VR here seems quite shoe-horned in the most unappealing manner. It just didn't make for the best use of VR. You do have full locomotion, teleportation, and snap turning available. Rate ?/10.
I bought this game! I didn't fully explore this title yet. I think there are only two full songs and then snippets of the rest of the concert. The first time I tried to watch it crashed. I restarted and was able to watch without another crash. Ill go back into it again from time to time. If you love VR and music like this, it will be worth the 5 bucks.
