About
Welcome to the world of iron and blood, warrior!
Kromlech is a single player action-adventure game blending RPG, immersive sim, and rogue-lite. A love letter to the immersive RPGs of the early 2000s featuring modern design ideas and QoL features, while still keeping things distinctly old-school. Step into a mythical world of ancient past where steel is still young, sorcery treacherous, and the truth can only be found at the edge of a blade.
Inspired by the cultures of the European Iron Age, predominantly the Celts, as well as the greatest works of the Sword & Sorcery genre, Kromlech seeks to deliver darker and grittier kind of heroic fantasy. One where heroes are defined not by their moral virtue, but by the impact of their actions on the world.
Play as Cronach, a lone adventurer living through the world’s last days. Make good use of the time you have left and you may discover what is going on—and maybe even learn how to stop it, so that you can enjoy your hard-earned coin.

This game is good. With many places that need polish, but it is good and it has insanely big potential. This game is closer to original Piranha games (Gothic 1,2) than Elex 1 and 2. And if you like these games, you would love this. Fight system is fine, its not the best, its not the worst. Its not hard, its not unfair, it is responsive. It needs balancing, dual wielding is OP, stamina behaviour is wierd, not intuitive for me. Graphics is good. I play on laptop mix of Min and Medium details FullHD. For me most games after 2013 looks great. I grew up on Doom and Duke Nukem 3D. So take it as you wish. Performance is like rollercoaster. This game needs optimalization. It is not critical, but highly needed. BUT, BUT, Devs do work on it. Difference between 0.1.5 and 0.2.0 is drastical. My laptop on Silent mode has same FPS on 0.2.0 as I had with Performance mode on 0.1.5 I dont want to write here a book. This game is good, Yes it has long way before itself. But it is good and you should buy it.
This is basically Gothic rogue-lite. Or Elden Ring rogue-lite with more realistic and reasonable enemies (no anime-style giants moving with lightning speed). The idea behind the game is that there is a hand-crafted world (it's quite amazing : even though it looks small, it actually has a lot of verticality and dungeons can go very deep), you start as a weak nobody and struggle even against the weakest of enemies. You do your best to progress as far as you can. Resource management is very important in this game. You are constantly balancing short term gains and long term ones : managing limited healing options and loot to make it easier to obtain persistent upgrades. Every time you die or sleep, time advances by 1 day and new random quests (crises) appear. They aren't simply quests, they also change the faction balance in the world : new enemies appear in the areas where they shouldn't be and some settlements may even disappear if you don't resolve "orc" or cultist invasions. After you die a max number of times (3-5 times), time goes back to how everything was on day 1. You restart again as a barely armed nobody except with experience and abilities that persist between "world resets". I have played for 21 hours and I have enjoyed the game a lot. Unfortunately, 20 hours in I am starting to notice that game is indeed in Early Access. The starting areas are quite rich, but the higher level areas don't have much except beautiful scenery and stronger enemies. In spite of that, I am happy with my purchase and am eagerly waiting for Kromlech's full release.
Where to start? This game can be both really fun and incredibly frustrating at the same time. There is a pretty steep learning curve, and the first few hours are especially difficult. But when you power through them, the feeling of excitement and reward of exploration make it worth it. The world is pretty and deep, with a nice atmosphere and great music. The fun factor really depends on how much you are willing to grind for gear at the start of your run so you can move to new areas and handle more difficult quests and crisis. It does suffer a bit from repetitiveness, so I hope we'll see more variety of events in future updates. The biggest thing is that you have to find the fun in this game yourself. it will not serve it to you.
I'm changing my review. After a little more playtime, the combat just kind of clicked. The world is dark and beautiful. Interesting game mechanics. The UI needs a lot of help - mostly tooltips. And the crashes and hard locks need to be ironed out. But I'm not mad about buying into this glorious and gruesome arpg title.
It's not perfect yet - few things ever are, moreso a game come recently to early access - but the heart is there, and one can feel it is meant to shine brightest. All perfectly valid criticisms aside, keeping too in mind that the games most glaring issues are being worked on actively by the devs, I can't help but feel a great deal of sympathy and admiration for this labour of love in a genre visited time and again, but with a theme and aesthetic rarely touched upon, and that are wonderfully brought to life herein. The game is beautiful, the world inordinately deep in its verticality; its soundtrack, the hidden gem of this reimagining of the celtic world of old where the imagination at work flew far, very far beyond the cautious expectations I nurtured. There is, as mentioned, some improvements which will have to be brought about, chiefly to optimization and the title's technical shape, which weighs heavy on more modest setups; the difficulty, I reckon, is certain to be and to remain divisive, though I personally enjoyed the effect that the armor system and the combination of light moves/power moves had on this spin of the Souls genre, so often repeated in its simplest expression where spamming light attacks is king. The roguelite component takes the cake as the particular originality of the game, and though it may initially invite scepticism, I welcome it as a fresh take in regards to gameplay loop, which puts Kromlech in a niche of its own. It'll take a bit more time, but in the context of the general decay of the gaming industry and the catastrophic collapse of its erstwhile titans, the sight of such promising ideas albeit still maturing, come too from more humble places, really draws the eye. What is there is very good; one may hope that it will become great in time, and chose to give the game a chance. I know I will, and I recommend you do to.
Great for both modern gamers and fans of classic RPGs. Even in its pre-release state, it's well optimized and runs smoothly on Linux. The developers regularly release updates and bug fixes, and the game offers something different from the mainstream. I'm excited to see how it develops in full release.
I spent 40 hours on the 0.3 early access release, (just released 0.4 yesterday) and didn't even come close to seeing everything, and had a blast. If future updates brings a lot more content and polish, then this game will be amazing. Great bones for now.
This game is criminally underrated! It's hard at first, but once you get used to the enemy attacks and dodging/blocking, it gets a lot easier. Exploring the world is a lot of fun and rewarding. The only negative I have is that the map can be a bit frustrating to navigate, as it doesn't have a way of letting you know what elevation a quest is at, and that can take about an hour of pathfinding to figure out where it is due to the nature of the world design. Despite this flaw, I still think it's well worth the price!
Combat is still janky. I keep falling into places & the collision on terrain is bugging me. I do not like how in my low spec pc they suddenly spike in speed to catch up. Seems like the graphics do not need to be synced to the actual game. This causes the units to teleport their attacks on me as the visuals catch up. But beside these things, the idea is really taking form. Seems like we have an interesting game being made.
