About
After centuries of increasing magic use, the world’s mana well is running dry. If entirely depleted, magic will be gone forever.
This does not go unnoticed by Riley and her friends Mitra and Yui. They set out from their hometown, trying to convince people and monsters to use mana more consciously. Along the way, they meet and team up with other like-minded people. Who could resist Tau the cook’s warm hugs, Quinn’s epic role-playing sessions, or Finley’s thought-provoking games? Perhaps they will even befriend the world famous rockstar Luca! Each of the activists contribute to the cause with their unique sets of debate skills, which they hone along the way.
KreatureKind offers unique gameplay, which is approachable to beginners while still giving seasoned players a proper challenge. If you're new to this kind of game, you'll figure it out. Played every card battler on the market? These monsters will still give you a run for your money!
Supercharge the seven playable characters by unlocking and upgrading cards! The mysterious former activist’s shop may just have the card you need to succeed. For a permanent boost to your team member’s debate skills, plushies give you the edge that will tip the scales in your favour.

This game should've never been made. Every character design makes me want to choke on my own floppa. The dialogue reminds me of my time at my liberal arts school, and that's not a good thing. I'm going to vote for Trump for a 4th time because of this game.
A friend bought me this game as a gag. If you saw that one and only person concurrently playing it on steamdb that was me! This game is both good and original, but the parts that are good are not original (licensed music from monstercat mostly), and the parts that are original aren't good. This game is a culmination of 14 years of development experience, and the developer's pronouns were revealed to me when the game crashed partway through the tutorial. Valiant Game Studio is not currently hiring, for fear of brushing against actual talent. This game claims to be both a roguelike and a roguelite, which is not possible, nor is it either. When you "die" you apparently keep all your cards and relics^H^H^H^H^H^Labubus, so it's just grind to win. This game won some awards, yet the tech to right click on cards to see what they do hasn't made its way to Sweden yet. This game fills a much needed gap.
As someone who's very much into peaceful story-driven games and not so much into deckbuilders, I'd recommend this game so far... for people who are more into deckbuilders than I am. I really appreciate that the dev keeps trying to do things differently and better (I've got another one of their games waiting in my backlog). I love the idea of using the card "battle" mechanics for debates. The fantasy story of overconsumption and a movement to save the [strike]climate[/strike] mana well is super wholesome. In practice, I don't know. The tutorial is alright, but the challenge level of some pretty early encounters was more than what I was comfortable with as a beginner and filthy casual. Maybe it's intentional so you can enjoy your wins more later (I had to stop playing for now). I also found the constant laughter (without anything being funny) and the electronic music so annoying that I didn't last 5 minutes before turning them off. Still, I'm intrigued enough that I feel like giving it another try later. So for actual fans of deckbuilders who'd like to try a new kind of setting and goal, this is probably a great game. - to be updated - * * * If you like chill and story-driven games, check out my curator Peaceful Adventures and Stories.
KreatureKind
KreatureKind is a very cute game. As of writing this it feels like it has some generally solid replayability. The core gameplay loop is satisfying and I really enjoyed most of the playable characters and the NPCs met along the way. As a game it's got that goofy charm and humor that I used to enjoy from games like AdventureQuest or DragonFable, but modern day vibes. It has some insightful takes on AI and energy usage that don't outright condemn the tools, but the way they're used. I have 2 gripes with the game, and neither is bad enough for me to really care- they would just be quality of life fixes. The first one being that the game has some sort of memory leak in it. I could only really play about an hour at a time before having to close and re-open the game so it would run smoothly again. The second one being that the game does NOT tell you that it will wipe your save if you do the final boss fight, meaning if I want to grab the last few achievements I will have to replay practically the entire story to get all of the character unlocks again for a few of them. I'd give it a solid 7/10, it's worth it and fun. What else can I say?
I love this game! I don't normally play deck-builders, but this game is perfect fun when you have a couple of hours to spend. It's easy to get into, fun to play, and easy to find a good spot to take a break for awhile, as each task is not too long to complete (which is a huge perk if you're like me and find it hard to take breaks while gaming). I love to find games that I can start when I have a little while to spend on something fun, is engaging and easy, but also easy to quit when you need to take a break. In summary, this game has got all the components of a healthy ADHD pastime! Even the art style and sound contributes to this. It's visually pleasing and the sounds are perfectly fit to the gameplay. It's so nice and makes me completely wrapped up in the world and want to play even more.
Yeah, this one is just not for me. I saw that this is a card game and thought I might try it because I like card battlers and noticed that there are magical creatures in a fantasy-like world, but here I have to give a clear thumbs down. First of all things that stood out to me was the music. I turned it off when I heard it for the first time, and I recommend everyone who wants to enjoy the game to turn it off too. Sadly, it switches back on when you re-enter the game or lose in an encounter and doesn't stay turned off... The character designs make me feel uncomfortable when I take a closer look, but that might be just me. Overly happy-looking characters creep me out. I have played games with a similar design in the past, but I just don't think it looks great. Saving magic because everyone is using it for the most useless stuff ever, and winning them over in arguments. Like, sorry, are these people living in this world completely dense that they'd rather have magic disappear than just do basic stuff themselves?! You can't tell me that it takes a group of teenagers(activists) to enlighten them. It took me four and a half hours to finish the story. Anyway, if you like card battlers, there are better ones out there. If you want to give this one a try, buy it on sale.
KreatureKind is a pretty clever and imaginative take on the deck-building genre. Instead of fighting enemies, the game is centered around non-violent conflict resolution. Your engage in debates and arguments with a deck of cards and your goal is to shift your opponent's perspective instead of depleting their health. The game looks nice and has a chill, cozy vibe thanks to its vibrant art and the customizable music tracks. The story is fairly straightforward but has subtle nods to themes like excessive resource consumption, climate change and AI, all told through its fantasy setting involving mana and its impact on the world. The card mechanics are pretty well thought out and feel sufficiently varied considering the short length of the game. I managed to complete it in about 4 hours, but between all the playable characters and unlockable cards, there's likely a decent amount of replayability. If you're looking for a game that's refreshingly unique with a thoughtful and clever premise that you can complete in a single evening or a couple of relaxed sessions, this one's definitely worth checking out! :)

If you're looking for a fun deck-builder with a different kind of style to the usual, then KreatureKind will probably work for you! The "defeat enemies with your words" / debating mechanic is a fun way to go about it and the 'combat' is surprisingly complex with different combos and strategies. The game is also longer than I originally anticipated, so you get a bit more for what you spend. I'm also OBSESSED with the Nightcrawler (one of the NPCs). The design is adorable. In fact, the character art for this game is superb.
