My Experience I initially picked up Street Shuffle thinking it would be a deckbuilder. While it is, in a loose way, it doesn't have some of the features you'd come to expect from one. Namely, the ability to remove cards from your decks. Notice I said "decks" plural, because although you begin the game playing only with the deck of the central protagonist "Ace," you soon gather three more performers and form a troupe. You'll have the option to have conversations with your troupe members outside of battles to get to know a bit more about them. To be honest, the only member I found marginally interesting was Gem (the other two are Koko and the Mime). I did listen to all the conversations, but this was more of a completionist move than anything else. Each member of your troupe has their own deck, and each deck is generally strong at doing a few particular things. The only choices you have outside of what cards to play during performances (battles) are which of two cards you'd like to pick to add to a performer's deck when they level up. Each performer has their own experience bar and levels up separately. At the conclusion of each win, the game gives you the ability to choose an "MVP" from your troupe. The character chosen as MVP will be given an extra chunk of experience. For most of the game, I attempted to keep all of my performers even in level by alternating who I selected as the MVP. To offset your inability to remove any cards from your deck, each turn begins with the choice of which cards to add to your hand from each performer. Although these choices are limited at the beginning of the game, towards the end you'll have the ability to look at four cards from each performer's deck each turn and pick two from each to add to your hand. And obviously, these choices become more expansive as you level up. At level 10 (the level I reached with all characters in my troupe), each character is working with an additional nine cards (one added for each level beyond the first). Although I might've preferred some additional options for deckbuilding (perhaps the ability to remove cards or buy multiples of my favorites), the performances were engaging enough to fully grab my attention. It's very important to pay attention to the different cards your opponents have. One opponent can accumulate a massive amount of armor and then deal damage to a character equal to half of that armor total, so it's important to chip that number down as much as possible (rather than playing a card that allows you to ignore it). Certain opponents can temporarily deal damage or inflict poison on any of your performers that harm them on a given turn, so you may want to attack another of your opponents that turn (or inflict poison, which doesn't trigger these abilities). One particularly nefarious character can play cards leftover in your hand if you didn't have the ability to play them yourself, so you may want to pick cards with low energy costs to ensure you can empty your hand. Certain opponents have the ability to inflict vulnerability (which makes you take extra damage from enemy moves), but Koko has a card that protects you from this status, so if you anticipate the enemy action correctly you can nullify its worst effects. Since the game requires this consistent enemy awareness for your troupe to be most effective, performances (for the vast majority of the game) never become rote for me. A few hints/tips:

Although you can't remove cards from your deck, you can "burn" them in matches so they won't show up in later draws that match. Gem has a card that allows you to burn any other cards you play in a given turn, and the opponent Wild Guy can burn Ace's cards specifically. Although this is generally a disadvantage, you can turn it into an advantage with some planning.
I'd encourage you to get your characters to level 10 before taking on the last fight - you gain an extremely powerful card with Ace that allows you to deal multiplicative damage based on your current energy, and you gain the ability to save an unused card from one turn to the next. This allows you to set up some very effective follow-up turns.
Although the cop's ability is super annoying (he puts garbage cards in your deck that you'll need to play or they'll deal you damage), Koko can gain a card that does the same thing to your opponents (it's a card that has her autograph on it). Enemy decks seem smaller than your own, and it comes up more often than you'd think to nullify one of your opponent's actions.
Although I'm not sure that Street Shuffle is a GOTY contender for me, it's easily one of my favorite games I've played this year, and I wouldn't be surprised if it made my 2024 top 10.
koko best girl
really cute game!!!
With a fantastic art style that makes the characters feel alive, a fun and upbeat soundtrack, an immersive story with lively and intricate characters who you battle and befriend along the way, and unique and challenging gameplay that requires strategy and resilience. This silly game has it all. I'd definitely recommend giving this a shot, especially if you're looking to mix up your library with a new and refreshing experience.
I recommend this new game. The graphics, dialogue and soundtrack are all great. The characters have entertaining personalities which create enjoyable game play.
Really good game! The characters are fun and all the art is super cute!!
A simple deck builder card battler game that has a great plot thread. This game has so much charm and has gotten me hooked for hours on end. I've completed this game multiple times which really tells you how much replay ability it has. I've tried the tank build, the poison build, and even the max rush burst build each one coming with their own unique advantages and disadvantages. I won't tell you which one is the best so you'll just have to find out for yourself. The art and music of this game are out of this world for the price tag. You can certainly tell that this was a passion project from the artists and developers. There is so much love for this game and I am lucky to have played it during its early access.
i love you ace i love you koko i love you gem i love you clover
The best thing about Street Shuffle is it's incredibly well designed. It's not the hardest game I've played, but on medium difficulty, it is pretty challenging, which in turn makes it incredibly rewarding to do well. It requires thought and strategy to each of your moves, which the longer you play, the more the game puts it in your head to pay attention to everything. Winning a particularly tough match filled me with adrenaline to want to continue playing. On top of the good gameplay, the game is very sweet to look at, with fun character designs and sprite movements. Interactions between the characters got several chuckles out of me. The soundtrack also is really good, to where even if you're stuck in a particularly tricky fight, the music will never get tiring. And for no more than 10 USD, it's well worth the money.
Dope ass game, from the characters to the gameplay. Few funny moments and a heart filling amount of friendship all wrapped up in an engaging card battler. Some of the enemies get a bit repetitive but it's broken up by the minibosses and chats you can have with your party. 9/10 good work Slice Of Pie Games :D
