Kraino Origins

I surely didn't think this game would turn out to be so interesting for me, that is because I love the Metroidvania's Castlevanias games and I don't like the classic ones that much and Kraino Origins looked more classic, but instead it succeed in mixing both spirits of the Castlevania games in some very challenging, fun and interesting levels while being also unique in other ways. Also the bosses are very various and all very interesting (maybe 1 or 2 were a bit less interesting for my taste but whatever). [spoiler]The shields are op and I love them, too bad I did the optional trials except the last one immediately after being available before taking them, but it made the challenges more interesting so I'm not regretting it that much. However I SURELY want the shields to come back in Kraino Rebirth and since it's a pure Metroidvania I am sure it will be fantastic, for my taste more than this already fantastic game[/spoiler]

I just finished the game in 5,5 hours with all items found and upgraded. I wished that the play time was a little longer, but beyond that the game was fun and enjoyable. I liked the 8 bit NES style graphics and the Mega Man vibes. Controls are fine and the difficulty is reasonable. I would play a sequel.

Kraino Origins is pretty much almost everything I love about 2D sidescrollers: great pixel art, cool protagonist, music is solid enough, controls are super tight and responsive, fun bosses, difficulty is challenging but fair, and though I wish it could've been longer, the length feels just right for the kind of game it is! Yes, we're getting Kraino Rebirth (which I helped fund and am super excited for) in the future, but this is a game I could easily replay like how much I love to replay some of my favorite NES and SNES games. Highly recommend this game, especially if you have a Steam Deck! Though, I'd say wait until it goes on sale because of the short length.

A very fun old school platformer that has a lot in commun with Shovel Knight, in case you wanted more of that. The bosses are topher than Shovel Knight though and I couldn't finish the game because of a forced boss rush before the end (with no checkpoint between all previously fought bosses, Including one with a one shot death by fall). If it wasn't from that, I'd hold the game higher in score. As it is, it's a 7.5 instead of 8.5. Still recommand, since you can play the rest of the game and have high fun

Played on 512 steam deck without issues. Fun great combat and enjoyable levels. I didn’t like shovel knight much but this one I did, makes me want to revisit shovel knight.

It's a nice game, very much in the vibe of Shovel Knight, but with a little less polish. Pixel size is all over the place, with some of the sprites having large pixels and others really small ones, which looks VERY out of place. Also, the music gets really annoying at times. Had to turn the volume down to like 20% for it to stop bugging me. Still, a nice Metroidvania if you're not too picky.

A nice proof of concept for a bigger game. The asking price is steep for what is here though, definitely wait for a sale. Pixel graphics are good, soundtrack is kind of bad actually, and one of the achievements is bugged for me. But its a nice way to spend a couple hours.
