Fun and unique game. A shame this isn't way more popular.
★★★★★ Truly buried treasure. I bought this thinking it was Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi (which I still haven't played), and it was one of the best mistakes I've ever made. A deeply flawed game in a hundred different ways that nevertheless make it relentlessly charming to me. Some of its running gags have permanently entered my vernacular.
Interesting concept, horrible execution
ever so often for no reason the game sets its audio back to 100% and i go deaf for a good second when i press A to begin
So, I pretty much put all Arksystem works games on my wishlist. Never would I have thought this game would be made by the studio behind Tokyo Majin Kenpuchou. Well, at least I have played one of those games now. BTW this game has nothing to do with Kowloon or Hong Kong. I guess saying Nine Dragons isn't fancy enough. As for the game it is pretty fun. The setting is a weird mix of Indiana Jones plus some mix of 90's anime with transfer students, student school council and Ooparts. Story is mainly told visual novel like with full voice acting. I also liked how it is told in a 13 episode format like an 1 season anime show complete with opening and ending. Gameplay is first person dungeon crawler with the combat playing out in turns. Later on you can clear entire rooms within 1 turn as long as you build your character right. The puzzles and systems of the game are really vague though. I highly recommend using a guide to play through the game if you don't to waste your time. The problem though is that the good guides are in japanese. I recommend the one on spwiki.net/kowloon.
An extremely, extremely weird game. If you can get past a lot of the jank - the obnoxious puzzles forcing you to backtrack for some obscure random ass item, most of the followers being totally missable, most of the stats being useless, absurd difficulty spikes and troughs, there's something supremely cool here. I can say with confidence that I have never played anything even remotely similar to this freakshow of a game. I would be all over a sequel. Definitely not a game you recommend to someone new to esoteric Japanese visual novel-esque RPGs, and definitely something you only recommend to ball knowers. I think the Steam screenshots do a great job of indicating the vibes of this one. You'll know pretty immediately if it's for you or not. It was absolutely for me.
