About

Korea. IL-2 Series takes you to a pivotal moment in aviation history—a time when jet engines changed the skies forever. During the Korean War, the piston-engine aircraft of a bygone era clashed with the first jet fighters.
For the first time in the series, gamepads are supported in addition to joysticks and HOTAS control systems.
With a massive combat map, authentically recreated aircraft, and a well-crafted balance between simulation and accessibility, every dogfight is brought to life.
Become an ace, fight in legendary machines, or aim even higher and become a regiment’s commander. Lead squadrons, plot routes across the combat map, and issue orders to turn the tide of history. In the skies of Korea, you can be anyone: from a rank-and-file pilot to a strategist shaping the outcome of the campaign.
For the first time in the IL-2 series, full controller support has been implemented.

The aircraft of the Korean War have been recreated based on actual blueprints, historical photographs, flight manuals, and other archival materials. There are eight* aircraft at your disposal.
*Please note La‑11 and F‑84E Thunderjet are available in the Premium and Deluxe editions, or as a separate DLC.

Every instrument in the cockpit is fully functional and reflects the state of the aircraft’s systems in real time. You will be aiming and firing just as pilots did 75 years ago.

The game takes place on the largest map in the series' history, covering an area of over 200,000 square kilometers. The Korean Peninsula has been recreated based on historical maps and documents from the 1950s. All significant historical landscape changes have been accounted for, including reclaimed coastal areas and shoreline changes.
The map features dozens of airbases with historically accurate layouts, hundreds of settlements, and strategic objectives such as ports, dams, and transport hubs.

The Home by Christmas campaign tells the story of Captain Jack Russell, who in 1950 secures a transfer to a combat unit fighting in the Korean War to fulfill his dream of becoming a jet ace.
You will fly 15 historically accurate combat missions, recreated from the combat logs of the 8th Fighter-Bomber Wing and the memoirs of its pilots.
The campaign reflects unique challenges of the war's early months: jet aircraft could not operate from small forward airstrips, so some pilots had to temporarily return to piston-engined machines. Over the course of the campaign, you will fly both the F-51 Mustang and the F-80 Shooting Star jet.

In Career mode, you will act as an air regiment commander, managing personnel and overseeing aviation logistics.
It is up to you to decide whether to take to the skies or focus on strategic tasks. As a regiment commander, you will maintain combat readiness, plan operations, and reinforce your units.

Korea features a highly detailed damage model for both aviation and ground objects. Aircraft, including strategic bombers, as well as ground vehicles, trains, and ships, receive damage corresponding to the nature of the hits sustained.
Every object reacts realistically to collisions, crashes, and combat damage, taking into account mass, speed, and the point of impact, directly affecting the behavior of the vehicle and the outcome of the battle.

In this new mode, you can examine each aircraft, ground vehicle, and naval vessel in detail. Explore the models, learn about their development and combat history, inspect aircraft cockpits, and compare technical specs, including detailed performance charts.
Your own personal museum, open anytime—a true treasure for anyone passionate about aviation and military history.

For the first time in the series, you can leave the cockpit and walk around the airfield where your regiment is based.
Animations of the people—pilots, soldiers, and civilians—were created using motion capture (MOCAP) technology, ensuring natural and lifelike movement.
Full VR support via OpenXR and OpenVR.
Accessibility: The game features detailed systems management, but there’s no need to memorize engine start-up sequences—you can take off and engage immediately.
Hardware support: From controllers to desktop joysticks and professional HOTAS systems.

Excellent game, the career mode is excellent and a step in the right direction towards the upcoming dynamic campaign. The Navy DLC is going to be fantastic.

Flight model and graphics are awesome,, AI is noticeably better after patch, still room for improvements and bug fixes here and there VR performance is a bit tough with RTX5070 but its playable with lowered settings, hoping better optimizing.
So far I have enjoyed the game and I always enjoy shooting down the communists and the game looks fantastic, however it does still need some work to be truly great. The AI is very stupid and sometimes even crashes into each other. I have had my escort fighters on CAS missions just randomly run into each other and the AI rarely does much of use. I have some difficulties with flying but that is entirely my own doing since I play with a keyboard and mouse which makes it much harder but I am learning how to fly with competence. The game however does have some clear bugs and performances issues as well with the biggest and most infuriating issue I am having which is when I get done with a lengthy mission, sometimes 1-2 hours long, I will land and finish the mission and be stuck at a black screen I cannot get out of unless I force close the game and I lose all progress. I also wish you could have a greater variety of planes to fly or encounter in the sky and units on the ground. The biggest wish I would have is being able to fly the B-29 bombers. On another point I very much wish you could fly as the South Koreans or at the very least encounter them in the sky and on the ground or be able to fly as some of the other United Nations militaries, I love being the United States of course but seeing other forces would be nice and being able to play as them at times too. The game right now is good with some problems that need fixing so when they fix the problems and expand the amount of planes and ground units it would become really great.
~Won-yong Song, Commander of the 60th Fighter Aviation Regiment, Korean People's Army Air force~ I just returned from a flight (12/11/1951) with my 1st squadron, consisting of Flight (Green), Section 3 and Section 4. We encountered a variety of American fighter aircraft: F-80, F-84, and the dangerous, F-86. The aerial battle began at 0930, Ryoo from Section 4 was immediately shot down and wounded. The flight sections scattered picking up various enemy aircraft. My squadron showed very little promise in combat experience, circling and only lightly engaging any enemy aircraft. However, the enemy itself showed an extreme lack of combat experience, circling repeatedly with an occasional steep climb. Very poor performance by the Americans. Like shooting ducks in a row, I claimed 5 kills: 2 F-80, 2 F-84, and 1 F-86--this pilot showed extreme lack of piloting acumen, round and round in a circle. Within half an hour our flight began returning to base, I followed leisurely behind my sections knowing full well that any threat from the remaining Americans was no real threat at all. The return flight was more a sightseeing trip, paying attention to the beautifully sculpted landscape, the breasted fullness of the clouds, the chipped paint on my right aileron of my stalwart MiG. I finally landed at 1045, taxied, shut down the plane, and relaxed in the cockpit to write in my flight journal. A singular thought came to mind while writing: that if the war continues not long into the future, and I encounter such dismal display of both my comrades and those of the Americans, I shall find myself in the lofty heights of aces from the previous war. I might even catch, or even surpass, the dizzying number of kills by Erich Hartmann. All I can say is: such a beautiful place, and such unique aircraft on both sides, and a base with a museum, but the pilots from my squadron and the Americans themselves need to be retrained. Poor performance, at best. To sum up the day, such a beautiful place for martial adventure hampered, temporarily, by poor combat flying experience. Commander Won-yong Song, November 12, 1951
AFTER A WHOLE 18 HOURS OF PLAY, I CAN FINALLY SAY SOMETHING! A MYRIAD OF TEXTURE BUGS, TEXTURE POP-UPS.........VERY LOW-QUALITY TEXTURES FOR A 2026 TITLE, EVEN IN MUSEUM MODE THEY SUCK! WHAT ANNOYS ME THE MOST ARE THE BROKEN INPUTS!!!!!!!! THE EMERGENCY GEAR EXTENSION WORKS ONLY ON 1 AIRCRAFT, THE YAK 9P!!!!! THE OTHERS ??????? AHAHAHAHAHA..... THERE ARE OTHER INPUTS THAT DON'T WORK ON PLANES THEY SHOULD WORK ON. I WAS STARTING TO PLAN A CUSTOM CONTROLLER BUT SPENDING MONEY ON A TITLE LIKE THIS ISN'T WORTH IT. WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY'LL DO WITH CARRIER OPERATIONS....I'M SCARED. 100 BUCKS I HAVE OVER 280 HOURS OF PLAYTIME ON IL2 GB AND MOST OF THE DLC... I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT AND I'M TRULY DISAPPOINTED.
Overall, I’m happy with how the game turned out. But there are some major issues that need addressing: 1.) AI wingmen... You assign them, award them medals, and bench them when they’re wounded—only to watch them fly straight into a mountain for no reason during the next attack run, or simply crash while returning to base. I’m sorry, but that completely kills my motivation to manage a squadron! 2.) Drop tanks... I’m glad drop tanks are finally back in the IL2 Series, but managing them is somewhat problematic. The tanks (usually) don’t get jettisoned automatically when the AI wingmen engage in combat. And even when they do, there’s a high chance that either you or your wingmen won’t make it back to base due to a lack of fuel. I had to land my MiG-15 with about 8% fuel left after flying from the Yalu to the front line and back. (Including 10 minutes of dogfighting.) As for the game's price, my expectations were met. I didn’t expect the base game to cost less than €70—not after what feels like five years of inflation. Fazit: Anyone who can wait to buy it should do so—at least until the (major) issues have been ironed out. And for those who think the game is too expensive: Just wait for a Steam Sale.
The developers of the IL-2 series deserve full recognition and support for yet another incredible simulator. For those who have been with IL-2 since Sturmovik and through Forgotten Battles and Pacific Fighters this new simulator is a fantastic gift!
