good
For being the first game in the series, Kingdom Rush is a very solid tower defense game. I have never played a Kingdom Rush game before this one, and I have to say that everything from the visuals to the gameplay is top end. It starts off slow, but when it picks up it goes all out (specially if you complete all iron and heroic challenges). There are only 8 tower types in the game, but you have to understand this started off as a flash game like BTD. I do wish there was some more variety but you can argue its simplicity at its finest. I also wish there a fast forward button. I would highly recommend new players to start on normal difficulty and not go for veteran if you are trying to 100%. You can always go back and replay the maps in varying difficulties later, and by then you will have fully speced out your skill tree (plus unlocked the OP heroes). If you are looking for a very pure representation of what a Tower Defense game is like, then this one would be up your alley.
The original will always have a place in my heart. It was the game that changed the tower defense genre for the better. Sure this version isn't exactly the same as the flash version but it's close enough to still get the nostalgia
I initially enjoyed this. The levels were tough but not impossible and repeatedly losing a level and having to replay it, trying various strategies until figuring out the best way to use the available towers, was a fun challenge. Up to level 21 that is. This level introduces the need to click repeatedly on your towers (3 times each tower i think) within a few seconds of a certain effect appearing around them to prevent them being shut down for a few seconds. This mechanic is extremely tedious as it activates almost constantly in the later waves over multiple towers simultaneously - eventually almost all of them - meaning that much of gameplay is simply triple-clicking the left mouse button all over the screen again, and again, and again to keep your towers working. it can also be quite hard to see your cursor amongst the various effects on screen, and the cursor has to be in a fairly small area for each tower to count, adding to the frustration. The game abandons requiring the player to think and plan and devolves into a mouse click spamfest where losing may be a matter of reflexes and eyesight not strategy. This level might be an aberration and the rest of the game may be as great as the first 20 levels but I just can't be bothered to keep nearly mindlesslessly spamclicking for wave after wave with each attempt at this level, and there are so many other games to try that i have stopped and moved to other things.
Fun scalable escalation of challenges, clear skill trees, great graphics, music, sfx and vo.
