Katawa Shoujo is a romantic visual novel set in the fictional Japanese Yamaku High School for disabled children. Hisao's congenital heart defect forces him to move to a new school. Despite his difficulties, Hisao is able to find friends—and perhaps love, if he plays his cards right.

It's because of this game that I got over my scarring. I had a defibrillator installed in my chest in 2011. I didn't want anyone to know about it and especially didn't like swimming in public anymore for people to see the scars. Then I played this game, around the time it was new. Hisao and Hanako showed me that having scars wasn't so bad after all and everything was gonna be ok. A fictional story having such a powerful life-changing impact on me has only happened twice, this being one of them. Now I don't mind people finding out and even jokingly call myself a cyborg. Since its release on Steam, I knew i had to say something. Thanks, Four Leaf Studios, for helping me through this back then.

Katawa Shoujo was truly an unique experience to me. It made me smile on the high, cry on the low. If you enjoy romantic story and like reading, I can wholeheartedly recommend you to try out this visual novel as it's free anyway.
Also, Lilly best girl
Honestly, despite those 70 straight hours, it was totally worth it—it’s pure cinema; I even 100% completed it. If anyone actually reads this, play it—with the patch, obviously!
I discovered Katawa Shoujo through a DDLC mod called Blue Skies, which takes big inspiration from Katawa Shoujo. At first I wasn't sure if I want to try the game, but I decided to give it a shot. I don't regret my decision, the opposite. I love Katawa Shoujo. The game has an incredible soundtrack, art and characters. There wasn't a single route I didn't enjoy, they're all incredible. The game also inspired me to work on myself and try to improve in some ways. As of writing this review, if I was to name my top 10 games, Katawa Shoujo would be among them. ♥
Hanako best girl
Loved it! Found myself daydreaming at work about life at Yamaku Academy and everyone there. Great vn. Shizune best girl!
Maybe it's not for everyone, but damn, this game really hits I started playing it just out of curiosity, and now, after finishing it, I honestly don't think I'll ever find another visual novel this beautiful. I went through Hanako's route and got the good ending, and without spoiling anything, it became one of the most memorable experiences I've had in games What I can say is this: it's absolutely worth your time, and it's not just another sugarcoated romance, it wasn't beautiful because everything went well, but because It was real :) I also have to mention the soundtrack, some tracks are pure freaking eargasm because of the thing they instantly bring back memories of the little moments I had with this VN that I cherish, like daaamn Hanako is best girl imo, but I know the other routes are amazing too Long story short, I can't recommend this game enough, It's one of the very few games I'd genuinely call a 10/10. ^^
