Fun timed hack and slash with interesting quests. simplistic game. Story line is very light on detail.
Peak PS Vita slop published in the 2020s, somehow.
i so recommend.

Katana Kami: A Way of the Samurai Story – Review Score: ★ 9.5/10 Platform Reviewed: Steam Deck Katana Kami: A Way of the Samurai Story is one of those rare gems that takes a niche concept — in this case, blending rogue-lite dungeon crawling with high-stakes samurai swordplay — and executes it with near-flawless finesse. It’s a spiritual spin-off of the Way of the Samurai series, but rather than sticking to narrative-heavy roots, this one opts for tight gameplay loops and a roguelike core that keeps you constantly on edge. From the moment you step into its dimly lit dungeons, the risk/reward system becomes the star of the show. You dive in with what you have, knowing full well that death can mean losing it all. This constant pressure forces you to make calculated decisions on the fly: do you go deeper for greater loot, or escape now and live to fight another night? That tension is addicting, and it makes every single run feel like a true test of both skill and instinct. Combat is where Katana Kami shines the brightest. The action is fast, fluid, and brutally satisfying. Sword clashes feel weighty, and you're constantly adapting to different enemy types with unique attack patterns. Even when swarmed, the game never buckles — no sluggish frame drops, no delayed inputs. It’s a testament to how well-optimized this title is, especially on the Steam Deck, where it plays beautifully. The controls feel natural, and the performance is buttery smooth, making this the perfect handheld slasher for on-the-go dungeon runs. Visually, Katana Kami doesn’t aim for hyper-realism, but its art direction deserves credit. The stylistic choices — from the mystical forested overworld to the shifting underground caverns — evoke a grim but enchanting atmosphere. Yes, some graphical details might come off a bit low-res or flat, but the strong use of color and dynamic lighting more than make up for it. It feels like stepping into a half-remembered samurai folklore dream. The animation work is rock solid, giving each strike and dodge a smooth, readable cadence. And while the soundtrack may not be the most instantly memorable, it does an excellent job of grounding the world. The forest-inspired, almost shamanic score adds an eerie calm between battles, only to swell when the blades come out. It might not stick with you outside the game, but it keeps you in the zone while you're playing — which is exactly what a game like this needs. In short, Katana Kami is a must-have for action RPG and rogue-lite fans. It blends slick swordplay, intelligent dungeon design, and just the right touch of RPG management into something truly special. If you love fast-paced action and the thrill of losing everything for the chance at something better, this is your game. And if you're rocking a Steam Deck? Even better — it runs like a dream. Final Verdict: An exhilarating blend of rogue-lite tension and stylish samurai combat, Katana Kami is as sharp as the blades it glorifies. 9.5 out of 10 – Highly Recommended.
