For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Karateka, the remake of the classic DOS game, is a delightful reimagining that brings charm and nostalgia to a new generation of gamers. The graphics are visually appealing, showcasing beautifully crafted art that enhances the overall experience. The accompanying music complements the aesthetics perfectly, creating an immersive atmosphere. The gameplay mechanics are refreshingly simple, focusing on parrying and attacking. This accessibility makes it easy for newcomers to jump in while still providing a satisfying challenge. However, the achievements can be quite tedious, requiring immense precision, which may lead to repetitive play. While some might find this frustrating, it can also serve as a motivation to master the game and improve your skills. One drawback is that the remake somewhat overshadows the technological innovations of the original title. Including the original version would have allowed players to appreciate the evolution of the game and contribute to video game preservation. Overall, Karateka is a pleasant experience for a few runs, especially for those looking to relive a classic. Just don't feel pressured to chase down the more challenging achievements—enjoy the game for what it is!

I recommend this because of the price and it is fine for what it is - a quick, almost too simple, QTE, hand-holding game. The whole thing feels like a tutorial intro level to a bigger experience, but it is not. It is also not a great remake of a beloved classic. While I appreciate the effort here, the remastered version of the original Karateka (available as part of "The Making of Karateka" - also on Steam), is a far superior update of the original, near masterpiece of a game. I'm also not a fan of the visual style of this, as its modern kiddie aesthetics strip away all the darkness, coolness, mysteriousness, and brooding atmosphere of the original.
When this 2012 remake came out the original 'Karateka' had been out for 28 years, which I think we can all agree is more than enough time to come up with something to modernize the game for current platforms. Will 'Karateka' live up to it's 1984 predecessor or will it fall flat in trying to capture the original feeling? The story here is pretty much the same. Akuma captures Prince Mariko and it's your job to fight through Akuma's forces in order to get her, but the one change they do is that they give you 3 protagonists instead of just 1, they don't change very much except for the endings. You'll get a "True Love" ending as the Karateka aka "True Love," a non romantic more neutral ending as the Monk since they are apart of the same tribe, and lastly you get a non romantic ending as the Brute. The goal is still the same, the outcomes change, but not to a big degree. The gameplay here is vastly different compared to the original as well, whether or not that's a good or bad thing you can decide, but I actually enjoyed the gameplay quite a bit here. Instead of going for something more realistic all around, this game goes for something a little bit more arcadey centered around rhythm. You will take turns back and fourth between you and your opponent, but some notes will play telling you how many times your opponent will attack giving you some sort of hint into how many blocks you can do and then you can just whale away on em, you'll also build up Chi which will allow you to stun your opponent for a turn. Alongside a few of these changes comes with difficulty which is represented in your characters, 3. You'll start off as the "True Love" which is actually the hardest difficulty, less health points and less time to counter, if you die or "fail" more to put it, you will then have a different character take on from your last checkpoint, the "Monk" comes up next which is your normal difficulty which has better health and counter time compared to the Karateka, and lastly the "Brute" which I didn't get to play, but he represents the easiest difficulty with the highest health points and I believe he will automatically counter some moves. I actually like the way this is handled especially when the next character doesn't have to start the journey all over again and just jumps to your last point, just less of a headache even if the game isn't difficult. The levels are handled differently compared to the original because now instead of being in 3 different locations you load into it's now all just one straight shot with 3 different "atmospheres" so to say. The normal village which has you going into the palace's garden before you finally reach the last location the palace itself. This is a cool since it doesn't disrupt gameplay from start to end and is just natural progression. The game is also only about 20ish minutes long, I completed my first run in like 28 minutes, but my next one was 25, so it can be faster or longer depending on who you are, but I do say the game is price more appropriately for it. This also offers a 100% that isn't too bad to complete, albeit quitting out to then put back an older save might be a common occurrence. I would recommend the game, it's fun, it really is and I still think it keeps most of the feeling of the original here especially since the story is still told with no words and the combat even though it's more arcadey still has that action movie feeling. I believe I also paid 99 cents for the game on a sale so for that it's more than worth a shot.
